my PS3 has crapped out for the second time. it's the 60GB original model. it sucks, because i was planning on getting LBP2 and ME2 tomorrow. anyway, what would be my best option? get a slim? refurb my 60GB for the 3rd time? also, does sony let you upgrade to a brand new slim if you send in your old models?

Ouch, that's a bummer. I'm assuming you're well out of your warranty period? If so you might just bite the bullet and go for a slim, at least you won't have this problem again for a long time and you'll have a warranty.

Never have your PS3 repaired by Sony. It is overpriced and you don't get your own PS3 back...

I recommend seeking repair from Gophermods. They're very reputable, have an excellent BBB rating, and a much longer warranty option than Sony. They are also cheaper and will repair YOUR PS3 and back up data for you before they start working to ensure you get all your data back too.

They have twio options for repair...

1. Reflow ($69.99)

2. Reballing ($139.99)

I recommend reballing since it is the superior repair method and the PS3 shouldn't give you anymore problems for a LOOOOOOONG time :) Good luck man. I just went through this ordeal, and I know how much it sucks.

What is reballing mean? It sounds funny....

LOL!!! I'm not technically savvy enough to know. I think that reflow uses a heat gun, and Reballing uses an oven? That's all I've heard thus far, and I'm not quite sure it's accurate either. :P
