Very Simple question, please back up your answer if at all possible, or explain to me that it is common knowledge.

Is the PS3 GPU capable of playing PS3 games with both anti-aliasing and high dynamic range lighting enabled simultaneously?

Last I checked, anti-aliasing and true HDR lighting isn't possible with any nVidia graphics card (like the PS3's RSX). That doesn't mean it isn't possible because HDR can be "faked." ATI has, and has been for the past few GPU generations, been the only card maker of the two to provide that.

That is untrue. nVidia cards have become very recently able to display both AA and HDR, just not with the Geforce 7 series. I have to say, I must take this as a relative advantage in Microsoft's favor, given its ATI developed GPU can display both AA and HDR simultaneously. However, Oblivion doesn't look any worse for wear and I expected the RSX to be in some way capable of the two effects. Could anyone provide additional info or an official publication stating what the PS3 GPU is capable of in this regard?

pretty much, but like last gen... it can all be faked. AA is also not that big of a thing anymore.

And anybody can guess as to whether that is or is not the case. That isn't my question.

You forget how hard the graphics levels should be pushed on a PS3, to get the best possible, using 4xAA would be a waste of resources, especially when true HDR probably hurts performance just as much. I recall hearing it took a lot more to do HDR in Far Cry and the bonus level, lost coast, for HL2 on PC.

No. They are exactly the same. The only difference is that on the ps3 you have to install the game but makes loading faster after you do. If you have a hard drive in your xbox you'll be able to install it but only after xbox experience launches. In my opinion, I prefer ps3 version because 1) I like the controller better and 2) I like having better loading times even if it means waiting for install.

Obviously the second reason will not count anymore once xbox experience launches but I'm playing the game now not in a few weeks.

The graphics are the same. It's exactly the same thing!

Same game on both consoles. Pick by your controller preference.

Why is there still a discussion about this issue?

First you must make a definition of true HDR and what kind of AA. Because PS3 can do AA+HDR, but this i done in a different way. Link for a technical explanation

TC what are you talking about ? HDR is a thing of the past and AA is found in almost everyother game on the PS3 even though majority of PS3 games are rendered at HD resolutions (720p).Around 15 games are also rendered at FULL 1080p resolutions.

The PS3 has hell lot of power under the hood especially due to the Cell broadband engine.Ps3 is also capable of iRT (Interactive ray tracing) from which even high end nvidia cards find a hard time.Proof is below :

And ohh if you wondering just in case...The RSX (Reality synthesizer) or the GPU of PS3 is equal to the raw power of TWO 6800 ULTRAs in SLI and has all the latest DX10 features(as it has no limited opengl support)...such as HDR,Depth of Field, motion blur, advance bump maping..etc...The RSX has 28 pipelines where as the 7800GTX has 24.

Bulls@#% it's the same on both consoles. They have them running equally. There was even an article before release that said 360 had better AA than the PS3 version. But things are equal now.

Here is PROOF
