about ps3 and retro-compatibility

i got a kinda stupid question...

well i know that when there was 2 different ps3 the cheaper one didnt have retro-compatibility

but now there is only a 40gb...so is it retro-compatible ?

cause i wanna buy one for mgs4 and i wanna buy mgs saga collection so i can replay the 3 others before playing mgs4

i could not find a website where it was clearly said wheter or not it have retro-compatibility

You can play PS1 games on it, but not PS2 games.
