Ya they wont do that, its one of thsoe boring talks from the CEO and come on really ps3 is not expensive its now way cheaper than when i first bought it

hunterseeker200

All talk and no walk is very typical from CEOs ....and the PS3 came all the way from $699 to $399 and maybe Actvivion is demanding another $200 price cut so a new PS3 will be $199.....

Sony would implode, if they dropped the price that low right now

I do not think many PS3 owners get how serious this could turn out to be,this isnt some small no name publisher, you can say what you want about them as a publisher and their games but the fact still remains that they are one of the biggest publishers in the world. They do have some influence in the world of gaming, therefore this could have a number of negative effects if true. For one it can have a domino effect where in other publishers follow suit, or two, new up and coming developers could turn away from supporting the PS3 due to fear of lack of returns on initial investments. I am not saying that this would definately happen but its a scary possibilty, as while i dont own one now i do plan to get a ps3, hopefully soon.

But this is a CEO who has been saying the same thing for years...and Activision as a whole would never do this especially not for another year or more...

Didnt he made a similar statement during the initial poor performances during the launch of PS3...

There is no disputing how devastating this would be to the Playstation brand, bit I highly doubt Activision would follow through

I really don't see a "domino" effect happening. Too many devs have spent too much money developing their own technologies for the PS3, and I highly doubt they'd let that go to waste when they got over 22million possibilities at turning profit. A CEO saying he'll stop support of a particular console is like the President saying he'll bomb a country - Sure, its possible and it'll be huge, but he's just using empty threats to get the results he wants. And he himself may not actually understand the impact that would make on his own country/company.

I doubt they will follow through with it. If they still wish to sell in europe they won't do it.

If they do, its their loss. PS3 will come back with avengenance.

Despite that, Activision has a point. If Activision goes, others will follow. Sony needs some serious price drops and some kick-ass exclusives!!

[QUOTE="psyum"][QUOTE="Arkk_Angel"]Although it may be a bluff, I remember when 3rd parties starting pulling their support from Nintendo back in the N64 days. This generation, Sony is going to have a hard time selling the PS3. They really don't have any exclusives except for 1st party titles. Nephilim83
1st party exclusives are the best :P but anyways they are not going to do that, this is not the 64 era :) and the price is coming down before 2011 when they said they were going to stop publishing for ps3 if the price didnt come down

Yeah, Sony has the best 1st party support of any console. The best exclusives. And there are 3rd party exclusives! MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles are two of the best games on the console and its been made abundently clear that they'll only be enjoyed on the PS3. ;) Anyway, just because Activision stops support won't make that much of a difference. Most of the guys who own both consoles probably play it on 360 anyway cause of the "better" online service. It may not affect them as much as you think, and it surely won't affect Sony. Sony will just have one of their masterful studios whip up something to make the COD franchise look a civil war reinactment. :P

For almost any third party game theres almost always a 1st party developer that can make a better game. Killzone 2, Infamous, Uncharted, GOW, etc. Of course there are a small amount of games I would breakdown and get a 360 for if say Valkyria Chronicles 2 was only on the 360.

I think its safe to say that MW2 is coming to PS3 regardless. Heck its already in the polishing stages. They have to publish it now if they want to get paid for their work.

Well, I have a 360 just in case anything like that happens. :D But I'm not gonna turn that noisy thing on for a COD game, I can tell you that. I've played all the other CODs on PC, and that's where I'll play the rest of them. I may get MW2 on PS3, but I actually kinda doubt it....

The CEO has his nose high up this time, does he realize that in the long run this may hurt Activision? Yes many will say, they may be a domino effect, but I believe that if Activision is willing to self destruct themselves like that, then by all means go ahead.

Yes, I understand if there is no Modern Warfare 2 for the PS3, it may be horrific for many, but honestly, if you really look at it, that (Guitar Hero and idk what else) would be the only loss, compared to the many exclusives and great third party titles that will be on the PS3, Activision, though a big third party, will not make a huge effect in my viewpoint. I could be wrong, but then again I haven't bought any of their products.

Anyway lets talk about MAG (lol).

The only games I've really enjoyed playing from Activision back in the late 1999-2006 were they Tony Hawk Series, but gave up after Project Skate because they were running out of ideas. Same goes with Guitar Hero series, I loved 1,2,3 and Aerosmith but with games like World Tour, Metallica and Guitar Hero 5 coming this year I think there running out of ideas on music.

I'm not really fussed on getting Call of Duty: Moderen Warfare 2 this year, Ifound Killzone 2's mulitplayer more fun and addicitive to Call of Duty 4's Mulitplayer.

Activision has now taken EA's spot at my most hated developer. They want Sony to drop their system price, but they can go ahead and sell games for 120-200$? I swear that Modern Warfare 2 will be the last game I buy from them.BladeOfHeaven

According to Neph, MW2 is far enough along where they would publish it on PS3 regardless of whether or not they follow through with their announcement. Just like you, I want to play MW2 on PS3! I don't want to go buy a 360, but I would if I had to. No way I would miss out on MW2.

Plastic instruments....... That's one fad I never bought into. They're running that crap into the ground. They're so money hungry they're shoving like 3 new titles down our throats this year alone. Why can't they just put all those songs for download? The way I see it, they only needed ONE disc game release for GH World Tour and the rest could have been downloadable. That way you're only paying for what you want. That's why record companies are failing now. With itunes and rhapsody and the like we finally have the option to pay for what we want and leave all the BS. That's the ONLY reason Activision keeps up the crap with the new titles, so they can force feed you as much crap as possible. And they know you'll buy it. Why? Because its got Van Halen's name on it! lol Seriously, if they want me to buy that crap they need to release GH: Nine Inch Nails or GH: Deftones. But then again I could just get Rockband, because its already got songs by both those artist. Activision, just give my MW2 and then DIE!!

Oh Activison you and your empty threats . Do you really think we believe you will cut ties with PS3 and PSP it amazing how you didn't say anything about the number 1 console in the world the PS2. Your just trying to cause a knee jerk reaction out of Sony, please this is one of the worst bluffs I have scene in a long time. Does anyone honestly think their going to give EA, Capcom, and UBI or any third party company an advantage buy not making games for the PS3 anymore. I have an idea start making good games Activison not sequel after sequel nobody cares about Guitar Hero we ran out of bands or Tony Hawk 5,000.

I do agree that the former scenario is less likely to happen than the latter, I just wanted to point out the negatives no matter how inprobable to those persons who are going around saying, "oh we dont need activition, your games suck anyway,so what we still have first party".First party as great as it does not impact a console as much as third party support.Remember the gamecube, great first party games very little third party support, seen by everyone as the least successful of the last generation consoles.

Wow glad to see this topic "appear" to not be fanboyish. I too doubt they will do it, but I can see Activiosions point. The cooments over on the article are insane. It appears many people think that just because Activision makes a lot of money, then they have no reason to complain.

Hypothetical: Activision spends $100 to make a game. Only 2 people own a PS3 and games cost $10 to buy they lose $80. they really need 10 people to own a PS3 to at least break even (10 x $10) so therefor they want more people to own a PS3. To have more people own a PS3 prices need to go down.

They do need lower prices still.. even with finally getting a REALLY good line-up in my humble opinion. Up until this E3, XBOX handsdown had the titles I wanted, NOW I really want a PS3 for their exclusives.

If Activision publishes games exclusively for the PS3....maybe Sony will be serious and thinking about the price cut. However, thats not the case here because Activision is making money on all consoles and now they are trying to put on a leash on Sony.....and whats the reason ? PS3 is too expensive ? Why dont you start making some awesome PS3 exclusives and then maybe Sony will take your EMPTY THREATS seriously.

It's not that simple. Look at the units sold for COD 5, 7m units. Now, lets say PS3 sales only count for 25% of this, at $60 a unit that's $105m.

Even if it cost $40m to make that's a profit of $65m..........That's alot of money to drop

Also, over here in the UK it costs us £40 per unit, that's $65

Well, all I can really say is I don't think Activision is out to destroy PS3 nor is their a personal grudge that I am aware of, so I have to take at face value what Acticvision is saying. I do think they are exagerating a bit but I also think they must have a real concern. Something like this being said isn't just thropwn out there, there has to be a legitimate concern behind it IMHO.

From reading the statement again it seems to me that they are asking for development royalty cost cuts rather than hardware cost cuts. Anyone else see this?

they can go die. otherwise they are bluffing most probably, or they are terrible developers, not many companies complain about ps3 other than it being alittle more difficult to make games on which is somewhat true. plus they suck

in general multiplats always outsell exclusives. the only problem they have is that the ps3 usually sells half of what the competitors do. so they are worred that its not worth the extra effort to add the third platform. it is, everyone else is doing it fora reason it works and you get the biggest overal return on what you invested in the project. with the franchises that activision has it be utterly stupid for them to stop supporting the ps3 seeing as several of their franchise do better then some ps3 exclusives. i know its hard to port over but its not like they're coding a whole new game it be a huge loss if they did this which is why i think they wont. this and the brutal legends thing is activision testing their powers, if they keep it up though they wont be the number one publishers for long EA can attest to that.

Activision are awful, all they want is the money, this Gen's EA. Most of the games they publish blow anyway.CraigyM83
Modern Warfare especially.

If that happened it would be huge. Activision does have the clout to pull a move like that and if that did happen I would expect Sony to react accordingly rather than be pig-headed and stand still. But at this point it's an empty threat.

Large_Soda
It's a very empty threat. They should check themselves because they're number 1 game (cod4) wouldn't be what it was without it being on both platforms.

*YAWN*

Motion carried. It's an empty threat. It makes perfect sense to drop 22+ MILLION gamers. [insert sarcasm] Go ahead Activision... Drop SONY. See what happens.

[QUOTE="hunterseeker200"]

[QUOTE="Doolz2024"]So that means no more CoD on PS3 if that happens?! :cry:Doolz2024

~2007

Activision= " We may stop publishing games for PS3"

COD4 released for PS3

~2009

Activision= " We may stop publishing games for PS3"

MW2 coming to PS3 November 10, 2009

De Ja voo anyone ?

Yeah, they said, we MAY stop publishing for PS3. This is the second time they've said it, but what happens if they follow through and do it THIS TIME?! No MODERN WARFARE 2 on PS3! If this happens, I'll go and buy a 360. I don't want to buy one, but no way in hell I'm missing out on MW2!

Nah, MW 2 is coming out this year. He said, "When we look at 2010 and 2011 we might want to consider if we support the console - and the PSP too". I highly doubt it will happen though.
