I was riding the fence for quite some time but with Blu Ray's dominance i am getting a PS3 this week. I had a couple of questions for those of you more in the loop on the system:

1 - i plan to get the ps3 hdmi cables. how much of an enhancement visually is this over component? I have a full HD 50" plasma.

2 - what are the strongest MP and RPG games out there?

3 - any other advice for peripherals or inital set up?

thanks for any info!!

1. The HDMI makes a huge difference. One it allwos for enhanced settings you can't get with any other connection. Two, it allows for PS1, PS2, and DVD upscaling. Three, its the only true digital output from the PS3 or any console. You can find cables for $20-$30 that are great quality. No sense in spending near that same amount for components.

2. Strongest MP, I think, is Warhawk. Can always go with Call of Duty 4. I'm not a RPG fan, personally. I have seen a lot of support for Folklore but the reviews were less than stellar.

3. Get a headset. If you have interest in Warhawk, there is a retail version on blu-ray that includes the headset for $60, only $20 more than the downloadable version. Wait on any second controllers until April when the new rumble six-axis comes.

I think that's it......

Lotsa promising RPG's coming down the pipe. Star Ocean, Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight Chronicles, Valkyria Chronicles not to mention as-yet un-annouced PS staple series like Wild Arms, Persona, Suikoden etc. that will come sooner or later.

If you lean more towards the western RPG types, You got the already available Oblivion, the imminent Fallout 3, KoTOR 3 will more likely than not head our way, and with the recent purchase of Bioware, well more likely than not get the future installment of Mass Effect since EA loves multi-platform support.

As far as mp game, warhawk and cod4 are great, i think people still play R:FoM. UT3 sucks, but SOCOM is looking good.

I was going to get these: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8362602&st=ps3+hdmi+cable&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1177717628338

I'm still getting up to speed on HDMI cables - don't know the real value difference with the different speed features, etc. thanks for the feedback!

1. I suggest getting your HDMI cable online. You can find quality HDMI cables for less than $5 ea. Monoprice.com is a good place or newegg.

2. Best Multiplayer games: Warhawk, R6: Vegas (but wait for #2), Call of Duty 4, Rockband (best group/party game ever), and Unreal Tournament 3 are my current favorites for multiplayer.

RPG: This is one area PS3 is lacking right now, but quite a few coming down the line. Mixed opinions on Folklore, try the demo before you buy it.

3. Next month get the dualshock3 controller, I'd also recommend getting a bluetooth headset, but you might already own one. Any standard bluetooth or usb headset will work with PS3. And a hdmi cable. Everything else is included.

I forgot since it's older, but if you haven't played Oblivion that's a good RPG on PS3. Go for the regular edtion and you can find it for $19 now. A great game

God no. Been plenty of discussion around here and the general belief is that a $10 HDMI is as good as $100 cables. It's a digital signal, so its all or nothing. Only if the cable is >6ft will build quality make a difference. go to the A/V board and ask there, they can explain it far better than I

1 -There is a huge benifite for playing in HD, Try playing with regualar cables then with HDMI and you'll be amazed.

2 - Multiplayer is most games, I don't know which games are good for RPG's as I don't like em.

3 - I would highly recommend a larger Hard Drive then the 40gig. Also another controler is always helpfull, and possible a Blue Toothe mic.
