... you really begin to appreciate every game for their accomplishment in having a decent framerate. I've put just over 300 hours into my current New Vegas playthrough, and now it is almost unplayable as I must quit game every 20 minutes because the framerate drops unforgivably low. I really hate unfinished games, hopefully Fallout 4 will be a smoother experience should it be made, but I doubt it. Who else had a frustrating time with New Vegas? Or shall I say, who didn't?

It's kind of a tradition, in modern Bethesda games, to have a **** of bugs upon release. But, yeah, I have the same problem with my New Vegas game.

I played it for about 100 hours and didn't notice the frame rate getting too bad. Only had to restart once or twice because it was slogging along at 1 frame every 5 seconds. But yeah, that's Bethesda and their crappy engine that they use for all their open world games. I can't even imagine what it was like for people who made the mistake of buying it at launch when it was basically unplayable. I waited until the mega-patch came out, like 6 months after release when the game was selling for twenty bucks.

I played it only for about 5 hours on the PS3 so I didn't notice any major issues. If you have a decent PC it's the only way to go.

I had to get it on the 360 as I heard the PS3 version was a buggy mess. This is not to say that the 360 version gets off clean though. I have had numerous lock ups and whatnot at about 60'ish hours in.

I bought the Ultimate Edition an all hoping that it may have had a few fixes thrown in for good measure considering it has all the DLC attached to it but alas, the bugs are still there...

I willl say though mind you that even with the odd lock up it is more than worth it. No other game does it so well. It's the only games I dont buy for my PS3 as I havent read a good thing about any Beth game on the PS3 at all. Dark souls on the other hand, smashing on the PS3, same as all of the Gaijin games. They look total crap on the 360..

I don't play games on my PC, and if I did, they would only be city-builders. I could never get used to a shooter on a computer.

New Vegas was a brilliant game - deep lore, quests that actually mattered, tons of great weapons, outstanding role-play. Sure, the game SHOULD have been more polished but i loved it nevertheless. For the protocol, i have spend more than 1000 hours on it in multiple playthroughs... Great job by Obisidian!

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great game, I'm just annoyed they could ship it knowing how broken it can get.

How did you sink 300 hours into one playthrough? If I remember correctly, my entire playthrough, in which I explored everything and did all the quests, etc amounted to only 75 hours of playtime. I played on the XBOX360, and while buggy, I did get a decent framerate for a game so large and expansive. I also countered the bugs by saving very often so I didn't experience many problems. EDIT: Forgot this was the PS3 Board ;) I'm not really sure on how the game plays on the PS3, but if it was anything like the X360, your experience shouldn't have been that negative.

You think a great job is to rush a game so that you don't have enough time to fix it's problems then release patches that break other things that weren't broken the first time around then eventually abandon it?

Wow, kinda curious what you think a bad job is lol

On my first playthrough I explored every location and done as much as I could do, and got to around the 120 hour mark. I have the Ultimate Edition so am playing through the 4 DLCs but I don't know how I've got to 300 hours lol :P

Oh that explains it. I just played the main game; I didn't buy or play any DLC. Still not sure how 4 DLCs could get you to 300 ^_^

The overall play-time stat on the save data isn't accurate however. I noticed that it continues to count when you pause the game, which is odd.

I didn't notice on the 360, although I've heard the PS3 version does have problems. The 360 version has problems as well, but I didn't notice framerate issues to any extreme degree.

Call of Duty is a great game, so is Halo right?...Obsidian used Bethesda's engine which was the reason for the bugs/frame rates/etc, if you are not informed. Obsidian did everything else - excellent writing, interesting quests, characters that are not stale and have overall story and vibe around them, role-play etc...

Hence, excellent job by Obsidian!

Now get back to fixing fruity drinks pal...

I recently re-visited FNV:Ultimate Edition and clocked in around 156 hours by doing everything - vanilla game and DLC included...

I only played about 14 hours, where I was at the end on Hardcore mode but found myself at an impossible point and had to start again (which I didn't). The game froze on me 3-4 times, the framerate was awful and there was slowdown galore. It's a shame too because New Vegas can look really good (just like Fallout 3). Unfortunately, after reading your post, I may have to consider the Ultimate Edition for 360 instead. Does anybody know if the 360 version is technically adept?

By the way, congratulations on 300 hours.

It definitely gets worse as your file size gets larger. I just finished the third add-on and my file size is at 11MB and I experienced more freezing in that add-on than the other two I've played. I've ran into frame rate drops periodically in my entire time playing the game though, especially in certain areas like the Strip. I had much more problems with Fallout 3's GOTY edition though, but still it's kind of shame. I still really enjoy the game though, but I can wait until the Playstation for another Fallout game, hopefully it will actually run properly on the system.

Thanks mate. Yeah get it for 360, most of my friends own it on the 360 and say it is nowhere near as bad as the PS3 version.

What really buggered the framerate up for me was doing the Honest Hearts DLC which was atrocious (technically) where it was messing up every 15 minutes. And my file size is currently at 13MB which doesn't help, nor does going to places which frequently have issues holding up the framerate (the strip, the fort, and bitter springs especially).

New Vegas is in my opinion the best concept of any game this generation. The quests are actually interesting and the exploration is unmatched. Like everyone said the technical problems hold it back so much, I'm just going to wait until the next iteration of fallout games because these ones were too glitchy for me to finish. If they had a map twice as big as New Vegas, like a New York setting, with vehicles and less glitches it would be the best game ever. I loved so much how you could join alliances with any group and how you could approach any scenario how you wanted, if you could ride around on motorbikes I don't think you'd need any other video game.

You have to use multiple save files for that game. As soon as it gets past 7000 kb or mb it starts to hiccup. I create a new save file every few hours of play and NEVER had one problem. A total of about 10 save files does the trick.

That doesn't make sense, if you save your file on a new one, it's still going to be the same size.

Happened in Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and Skyrim. I would never put anywhere near 300 hours in them or 200, probably not much more than 100 but it still got pretty bad. That was on the 360, they seem fine on the PC. Never saw how the PS3 version does.
