So I got my PS3 today, which I LOVE, and am very proud to be officially apart of the community... But I have online woes.

I have an old CAT6 ethernet cable I got a while back for my PS2, and I got it out again so I could use it for online on my PS3. I plug one end into my modem, and the other into the back of the PS3. I do the "internet connection check" or whatever, and while looking for my IP address it said it timed out and couldn't find it.

So what's going on, or am I doing something wrong?

I had the same problem but I altered a few settings on my Laptop for other connections to be allowed or something, I can't remember and it worked.

Sorry, I'm not that Internet savvy... Can you guide me through everything, like what you mean by settings?

What is this "wire" you speak of? It sound so foreign in this generation of gaming...

Why not do it wireless? Tell me how that works out; I guarantee you that wireless will be less of a hassle.

Wired is actually more simple, theres no need for a router and its a stronger connection, your pc acts as a router.

I actually here it's a way bigger hassle... Plus I would have had to buy an $80 router =/

With this I didn't have to set anything up (I don't think so far....) and didn't need to buy anything.

Now I just need to figure out how to get it to work.

yes trust me, wireless is too troublesome..too unreliable..oh its nice if its on the same floor or right next to the PS3 to get a good signal. PS3's built in wifi adapter isn't the greatest in the world to be honest. You're better off with wired once you get it going.

SOO,

Let me get this straight guys, to make sure I'm not being ignorant or something, but...

To get online on my PS3, all I have to do is connect a CAT cable (CAT6 in my story) from my modem to the back of my PS3, and mess with some settings on the system... I don't have to do anything on the computer or anything?

Oh, allright, that's what I thought. Nah, I just have a modem... I was going to buy an 80 dollar one, though, until I found this CAT6 cable

Allright, thankyou so much dude!! I'll keep in touch about how things go... In about an hour or so, after my parents are done watching the finale of Hell's Kitchen.

.... yeah.
