My PS3 has been crashing constantly, some said it was my HDD, so I formatted it and nothing happens, bought a new one and nothing happens. Now they're saying it's the PSU, so now I'm trying to source a spare. If this doesn't fix it I'm gonna dump the thing. Does anyone have any alternative that I can try because I'm getting desperate to get this thing running now.

No, I'm playing GT5 and Burnout Paradise at the moment. It was working fine but it just randomly crashes every 45 minutes or so.

Mine doesn't freeze, it completely shuts off, as if someone pulls out the plug. There's no lights to indicate overheating so I don't know what's wrong with it.

My PS3 started crashing while I was playing VBR (variable bitrates) MP3's that were coded in my PC using the LAME.dll. I was just trying to play with custom soundtrack in GT5. I was able to play the MP3's fine in the XMB. However when I entered the game and set it to play custom music the menus wouldn't play the songlist at all (menus went silent), then when I entered a race it would freeze almost immediately probably due to the encoding of the MP3's. However when I ripped a fresh set of MP3's using the PS3 itself, it didn't have a problem playing them at all. GT5 played fine, and the custom soundtrack played fine. Apparently the PS3 doesn't like certain types of MP3's (VBR = variable bitrate) - or maybe it's GT5's fault. Either way, since you mentioned GT5 specifically, if you using a custom soundtrack maybe try going back to default and see if it's still freezing.

That's sig worthy

Anyway, I don't have a lot ofadvice other then to try contacting Sony. I don't know where you live, and honestly I'm too lazy to post every support number/email. Google should help you out, good luck with your PS3

I ran the PS3 safe mode feature (The one where you hold the power button forever until it does the double beep) and went to restore file system. It said that the HDD was corrupted and would fix it so I let it do its work and started playing again, and as usual it crashed again. I ran the safe mode again and says its still corrupted. No matter how many times I restore it it still stays the same. Even formatting the drive didn't do anything.

hmm, since you sound desperate. i suggest you just do a full system restore, and restore it to factory settings. as if you had just bought it, im lucky i never had any problems with it (knock on wood)
