Does anyone actually use the analog stick over the d-pad for any games? I've yet to use it as I find it pretty hard to control, even the position of it is uncomfortable to use, so the d-pad has always been my main control. Probabaly will be the same on Vita.

It depends on the game, really. I actually find for 2D Games and isometric RPGs, the analogue stick offers quicker movements, since I find that the D-Pad doesn't work well for pressing two directions(i.e. diagonal movement). I'll also use the Analogue stick for most 3D games, since the range of direction is good, even if the range distance is terrible on the PSP's analogue nub. The only thing I use my D-Pad for is game menus and racing games, like Wipeout: Pulse. Pretty much, anything that requires me to press two directions at once, I'll use the analogue stick, but anything that only needs one direction, I'll go with the better reliability of the Digital pad.

I prefer the d-pad but for some things it makes you use the stick... which I don't like.

The PSP1000-3000's thumbstick does indeed suck, and I always hated using it. I have a Go now, and it's far more comfortable to use, so I use analog for everything.

Depends on the gamesyam32245340

exactly. On Ace Combat, you HAVE to use the analog. and games like Crash Bandicoot (psOne classic) you can set it for either one OR the other.

With some driving games the analog is too sensitive, but in others it works great.

Most games force you to use the analog, so yes, I use that, but I'm not a huge fan. It's time units came with decent D-pads again. The SNES D-pad has perfect feel, why fix what wasn't broken..

Yeah, depends on the game. I tend to use the D-Pad on turn-based games (Like Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days or Blazing Souls: Accelate) and analog in games with a 3-D approach to it (Monster Hunter Freedom Unite or God Eater Burst).

I use whatever the game requires, I guess. My fingers do tend to drift to the d-pad though when there's an option. It makes it frustrating when I'm playing a game that requires the analog since sometimes I'll wind up w/ my fingers off the proper controls.

Well I've yet to come across a game that makes you use the analog stick only. I would assume GoW lacks D-pad controls?

Depends on the game. Turn based RPGs or 2d side scrollers it's D-pad all the way. 3D world enviornment in games like Ratchet & Clank or God of War it's definitely the analogue stick.

Basically I use the analue stick for any game that requires variable direction/speed. D-pads on/off controls are great for Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins or Tactic's Ogre though.

Seriously? I have relatively few games and I have already ran into a couple that make you use the analog stick for movement w/ the d-pad buttons assigned to different things. Daxter, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo and Midnight Club 3 just off the top of my head. You might be able to change the controls in any of these but they are set that way by default.

Games like God of War and Ace combat require you to use the analog stick for movement and the d-pad for other things (like switching weapons for example)

I'm amazed anyone can use the stick without getting cramps. It's practically impossible for me and my hands aren't even that large

I take it back. I was getting my 3DS mixed up with my PSP. I always use the D-pad unless the game forces me to use the other. The positioning just isn't comfortable.
