No offence, I love PS, PS2, PSP, PS3, XBOX, X360 and so on. But why is it that they always release an improved version after the first console release?! (Because it's improved yes, I'm aware of that :s) But what I mean is:

There's Gameboy & Gameboy pocket, PS & PSone, PS2 & PStwo and now there's PSP & PSP Slim now... Can't they just release the improved one as a first release?! I'm sure this is a excellent way to make money, but this is becoming a trend nowadays and frankly, and I don't believe I'm the only one here, I'm am getting really tired of this. It's just annoying, that's all there is to it.

Because the prices of technology change over time. Once parts are smaller and cheaper, a new version of the product can be made for a similar price.

If they released the ds lite when the original ds came out I guarentee you it would have cost a lot more than the phat ds.

Absolutely, I totally agree. Nevertheless, I just purchased an Xbox 360 Elite for 449Euro's, and I bet a PS3 doesn't come cheap either. So I'd rather give more money on a perfectly up-to-date console than spend it on the same console twice just because it has been upgraded.

If you wait there is usually a lot of good games by the time the redesign comes out anyway.

I just think the original versions like the Bulky PSP, and DS is like the Beta version of it. So they wait a couple years after the release, to get all the information about it. Then make changes to the new versions being released, so there won't be AS many problems.

Companies don't know what will sell and what won't, so they have to see if it's popular enough before putting money into improving it. There's also the fact that technology is constantly improving. A year in the electronics world is a long time. Who knows what that allowed them to do.

Hehe, don't forget GameBoy Color, which yes could play new Color games, but was basically an upgrade of sorts as it just added color and nothing much else. You also forgot the DS and DSLite, the Gameboy Advance & Gameboy Advance SP & Gameboy Micro.

The original system versions aren't meant to be Beta or anything though, and the PSP has proved to be a sturdy and quite amazing system in itself, as well as the DS. Technology gets better overtime, so they will improve the system later on. The improved system usually has ideas in it that weren't thought up or were not possible at the time of the initial release because of lack of technology.

you're also wondering why do they release dashboard or system updates? nome new ideas come up as time passes by and as said earlier, costs of technology change...besides how long has been since the original psp came out? if you got a psp you don't need a new one (except if you can afford it and won't have a problem paying for a new gadget)
