I noticed some games can play in 080i.1080op. (Such as COD:4) Why is the game broadcasting in 720p by default. I found the only way to recognize 1080 was to go into settings and uncheck 720p. I know there are some games that can reconginize the conversion without any problems. Is this a glitch, or are most game developers, setting games at 720p for defualt.

720p is the native resolution, it is just stating that it also supports 1080i and p.

correct, the game was optimized for 720p
doesnt mean that it wont run beautifully in 1080p, but since its optimized for 720p you have to force it to run at 1080i/p by unchecking 720p
