Any idea why this would happen?

MY tv's highest setting on the box says 720p, but it still runs the ps3 or a 360 in 1080p. Somehow. It actually says whenever i turn it on or switch to the ps3:

"YPbPr2

1080p HD"

This is the tv i have: http://www.networksupply.ca/product_info2.php?cPath=NSI-00011_J_JA&products_id=761967&mpn=N3735W

Any thoughts? Is this just the ps3 or what?

It's acknowledging the source signal as 1080p but it's only capable of displaying 720p.

This ^^. My tv upstairs does the same thing but it's only capable of actually putting out 720p.

The PS3 is capable of upscaling any resolution (even PSX games!) to 1080p. That doesn't mean the games are going to look better because they've been upscaled, but if it was displayed in the original resolution on an HDTV, you'd be looking at an image the size of a postage stamp, drowning in a sea of supurfluous black pixels.
