I've had my slim since christmas, no real issues. It gets pretty warm after long playthroughs, but the cabinet I keep it in is a little claustrophobic I suppose, I have to see about putting it in a more ventilated place. That's really all you have to worry about, just keep it in a good ventilated area.
I am buying a ps3 in a week or 2, and I was wondering if their is any issues with the slim.redskins26rocsNo, no, and no again. Had one since launch day and performs even better than my 80GB. The processor is about a half a second faster than my old one. No overheating and much easier to keep the exterior clean.
I bought the slim on launch and have noticed at times the fans or whatever it may be is making such a loud noise that it almost ruins bluray movies when they become quiet even with the volume up a lot, and today my ps3 slim ate my bluray of bourne identity, it put a huge laser scratch in it and now the bluray will not play at all, kind of wanting to get rid of it and just try to find an old backwards compatible, this system has been nothing but problems for me, albeit probably one bad version in a ton of good ones, but it has gotten me frustrated.
Freezing issues are occuring with mine. But majority are saying it's just the browser causing this, so I wouldn't be worried if I were you.
besides not getting online out f box, -you have to update it through a ethernet cord ,
after that it works 100 percent , i had no problems after that so ya , ive owned my slim sinc xmas 09
You don't have to use an ethernet cord to update anything. I was able to connect wirelessly from the moment I turned it on. FW 3.15 is now a mandatory update so it does force you to update as soon as you're connected but you shouldn't need an ethernet cord for it.besides not getting online out f box, -you have to update it through a ethernet cord ,

I have only had mine for a few weeks and though that isn't too long I haven't had any trouble with it whatsoever. In comparing it to my old 60GB I have noticed the following:
-Fans never get too loud unlike my 60GB
-It seems to load slightly faster and loads games/blu-rays slightly faster
-Even though it gets hot it gets no where near as hot as my 60GB did.

I've had my 120GB slimfor less than 1 week now,had a 80Gb fat PS3 b4+also a 60GB launch PS3,and i think apart from the good looks and 4 USBs on my old 60,then the slim is far quieter, smaller, lighter and a really good looking console sat on my video unit.
Touch wood-runs like a dream so far,but have noticed that it makes the occasional loud click-i guess due to the casing expanding when it's been on for a couple of hours or more+i've read other people had the same with theirs in Gamespot forums, but it's nothing to worry about.
