I can appreciate how the game has been such a great franchise, and that the graphics look amazing,,, but is anybody else here think the gameplay looks,, kinda,, boring? Having never played the older versions,, i see the vids of new game and it looks like all you do is creep around slowly and snipe/choke/etc,, guards.,, and ive heard that more of the game is CGI cut scenes than actual gameplay,,

I dont think this game is the Halo/Mario of Ps3 and isnt the saviour for the system.. the system doesnt need a saviour its here to stay. To me, GTA franchise was Sonys great calling card (what game created more buzz on past gen systems),, its a shame rockstar sold out, but were still getting the game regardless

Do you only start threads that are bashing on things? Why? If you don't like it, fine. But I am sure you're not gonna get many responses on your favor, much like your last thread about backward compatibility.

MGS is a saga that actually entertains you instead of just point/shoot/kill. The story behind the game is like a good movie/book.

It's one of those games that you actually have to think before you pull the trigger thus makes it more challenging/rewarding.

I't something like Star Wars... Some Love it some hate it. I would give it a try tho if you like stealth/tactical games.

Like I said before, not all of us had the money to pay for the PS3 at the time of release, so the PS2 trade-in helped. Plus there are thousands of reasons. And if you say you don't like how MGS4 looks like, then its obvious you don't know anything about the series. The point is to sneak in, but you can play in whatever style you want. If you wanna blow your way through, rather than sneaking around, you can do it. You are not limited by the game, ever.

And its obvious that you haven't seen trailers of MGS4 if you think that you can only play it sneaking. You can now play it as a FPS shooter if you really want too. Plus there is the online multiplayer too.

And you must not like many great games then, as not only MGS has long cut-scenes.

What's the point of still owning a PS2 when your PS3 can play the games?

If you had an HDTV, you'd know PS2 games will look like garbage if played through a PS2. PS3 will upscale them.

Also, how can you bash a 4th game in a series when you've never played any of the others, especially just looking at videos to form your opinion?

So I'm reading the thread at work and I just wanted to jump out the window. Why do people start threads to announce they don't like something? I'm going to start one to say on the record that I don't like yogurt and I think anybody that does is an idiot.

No it wouldn't. If MGO would be a half assed effort, then Warhawk, early Unreals and any game with no single player component would be a half assed effort. A money grabbing stunt, maybe, but not half assed.

dude what in the hell are you talking about? they said that MGO is coming as a stater pack with MGS4. it is all one package with two games. i think everyone else is excited about this game except you. if you have never played the other metal gears, which you havent, you have no right to bash MGS4.

If you read some of the news related to MGS4 you would know that MGS Online is coming with mgs4, atleast something called starter kit, so i doubt it will be half assed, and i don't see the complain about the stealth, its one of the aspects of the game that hooks you in, you have to think and play and think fast because sometimes you must time well your sneak in order to not get caught. Besides, MGS has some of the most entertaining BOSS battles any game could have, Hideo Kojima adds tiny details that make it even more interesting, now THATS next gen, if you've played MGS3 you would know, but like you havent, well, you don't know what your missing.

im not excited for it mainly because i never liked the series ever since it came it. I thought it was too much stealth in a game. I personally prefer splinter cell over this any day.

In Splinter Cell you are actually restricted too being stealthy, so how can you then say MGS is to stealthy?:?

because there was way much more action in splinter cell than I ever saw in MGS. The first MGS was stealth stealth stealth stealth stealth stealth. While splinter cell actually had action parts such as interrogation and parts where you would actually have to fight for your life and still play the game where as in MGS it was if you get caught your chances of hiding and surviving long enough to hide were very slim.

just shut the hell up. go look at the gun battles in mgs4, like the one Hideo Kojima showed us at TGS 2007. that was an intense battle. in splinter cell all you use is that tiny silenced pistol.

Most missions in Splinter Cell will call mission failure if you are caught one to many times. In the history of MGS games, there is only one moment where you are required to be 100% stealthy, and thats in MGS2. In MGS you can fight your way through if you desire. Plus, it has the best boss fights you'll ever see, and they are not about stealth. Not to mention car and motorcycle chases, rappelling while avoiding an enemy helicopter's fire, multiple plot relate shot outs, and many other moments.

Besides, it is unfair to compare MGS to Splinter Cell, when the first SC came out for the Xbox and PS2. And it only had like 3 action moments. If you compare it to MGS2, which is from the same generation, there are 2 mandatory shoot outs and one boss battle with Snake and when you take control of Raiden, you have 2 mandatory shoot outs, one sniping mission, one underwater mission, a bomb disposal section and 6 more boss fights. how much more action can you want in a stealth game?

Plus MGS4 looks to have much more action than the first 3 titles combined.

I am not a fan boy, I've played both series and I enjoy them both. But to say SC is more action oriented than MGS is a very wrong assumption.

Are you for real dude? Play any and all of Hideo Kojima's other games and you will understand. Play the previous iterations in the Metal Gear franchise. Kojima always gives the players an unbelievable amount of options, and he has only expanded on this with the introduction of a full-scale FPS perspective. You could sneak and avoid taking a single life.....you could slaughter indiscriminantly in stealth OR outright confrontation. The game obviously compels you to act with caution and stealth, but unless you're playing in one of the more difficult settings, this is not the case. You don't just "shoot...slash people's throat." You lure guards into mines with nudie mags, you place C4 on the back of a guard while he is urinating, you shoot their walkie-talkie, their hand, and their leg, then watch them hobble away, only to get shot in the crotch before exiting the area. If you're not excited, GET EXCITED.

Furthermore, anyone who loves videogames knows that Halo is not in the same league as Metal Gear and Mario. These are timeless franchises, Halo is enjoyable and entertaining, but not timeless. Halo does not define the possibilities for our hobby. Mario and Metal Gear on the other hand, DO.

Buy the collection when it is released. You will be excited, and your head will hurt while playing MGS4 if you do not do so.

I played Portable Ops and was completely turned off MGS by this game. I plan on giving the series another try in the future though, starting with one. As soon as I recover from the boredom that came on me after playing the PSP version.

im not a fan boy. im simply just saying that mgs has more action that splinter cell. in mgs4 you dont always have to stay in the shadows, unlike splinter cell you have to..... ALL THE TIME. i like both games, but i would choose mgs4 over splinter cell. im not trying to be a jerk or anything.

Well, duh, it is a stealth game, not some crappy generic FPS or something with guns blazeing around you. This game franchise is known for impressive storty tellling, beautiful cut scenes, uniquie gameplay, epic boss battles and freshness.

Look at the reviews for previous games, or beter yet play them, to experience the games awsomeness. DOnt say anything untill you do.

To me, GTA franchise was Sonys great calling card (what game created more buzz on past gen systems),, its a shame rockstar sold out, but were still getting the game regardless

signore

First of all, they have never, ever used CGI in MGS. They are not using CGI in MGS4 either.

Second, why bash a game that you have absolutely no experience with?

they are using CGI for part of the opening movie. not all of it though.
