Just writing to say that i was overall disappointed with Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 ,

My main problem was there was just WAY too much travelling to do and when your gun jams in the middle of a firefight that can get very annoying.

I don't mean to nag or put anyone off it's just that i got my hopes up for this game and for me it failed to deliver.

Naw, I can't say I agree. This game has rocked for me.

Sure travelling can be a tad annoying but it hasn't been anything to put me off.

As for the guns jamming, what can I say. Don't use guns you pick up!

It annoyed me at first and I was dissapointed. But the more I played it, the better it got. Guns jamming is really annoying...but when you actually buy guns you eliminate that problem. And there are buses that totally eliminate travelling....but the whole point of the game is exploring.

ANd yeah, if I rented this game for one day I would not have bought it. But now that I've played it for three days I'm glad I bought it.

Are you kidding I love it! Yea the travelling is really annoying but if you take the bus it shouldn't be too much of a problem. The travelling and save system are my only 2 complaints about the game.

I haven't played it, so I can't honestly comment on this game... however, one thought comes to my mind:

"It's Ubisoft, what did you expect??"

Well, you can cut down on travel times HUGELY by using the transit station. That problem is now solved for you. Second problem, purchase reliability upgrades for the guns you use, then they last a whole lot longer. Now that Ive solved your problems for you, why the hell arent you playing this awesome game again?!?!?!?!?!?

I have to disagree... I do not find the travelling all that boring because you can actually get from one point of the map, to another no matter where you are in less than five minutes as long as you take the bus in conjunction with another vehicle. And I guess it is more of a personal opinion but I find that jamming a gun in the middle of a firefight to be sort of "intense" with have to resort to a side arm or taking cover until it can be unjammed. Overall, I am loving the single player! Although I do believe the multiplayer could have used a bit more work...

I think people mis-understand farcry2. Yes, you travel a lot, but you don't have to go straight to the mission. WHy not be a bit creative and plan the route so that you can gain some safe houses, stock up on weapons and nick a car from one of the many check points along the way. They could, however, have expanded on this more by allowing you more than one open mission at a time. There is always the bus system if you just cant stand to explore.

my biggest gripe with the game is the lack of non-enemy NCPs. Yes, i know people are supposed to have fled the country or are in hiding, but seriously, why not have some neutral people walking around - like in the "no fire zones". This is the only aspect of the game at annoys me and blows the sense of realism. everything else i love.

You cant have it both ways.. you cant demand realistic games, and then cry when you have to walk for more than 10 minutes or a gun jams. This is not a run and gun game... if you want a run and gun game, buy COD4. that said, i think the malaria thing is a bit silly."oh no im having a malaria attack... pop a pill and you are 100% better within 3 seconds.. WHAT!!?!?!?!

Also, why have people overlooked this as the console graphic king. seriously, despite some minor pop-in, this BLOWS away most other console games graphically.

All things asise, Far Cry 2 is a great game.. not as good as it could have been with a little more love (story could have been very powerful), but it is still tons better than most of the other generic tat on the market.

Well there are places in Africa that are basically warzones. All the people have left and even the cease fire zones are owned by military factions. So FC2 not having many non combat npcs is actually quite accurate. And for some rival factions in real life, there are no innocents, so theyre all dead, gone from the country, or in hiding.

Because MGS4 has better graphics? The graphics on this game are amazing but not as good as MGS4, now the PC version might have better graphics than MGS4 but definitely not the console versions.

possibly... i think i mostly miss the NCP interaction. Don't get me wrong though, it's hardly a fatal flaw... but do you remember the tension in the opening scene when the border guards are checking your drivers ID and looking at you? that was a classic moment... but that sense of tension is lost when everyone is simply out to kill you. I do however love the tension you feel in the no fire zones.

The lighting on Far Cry 2 blows MGS out of the water. also, when you consider the scale of Far Crys environments, it puts MGS to shame. MGS does have better character models & animation... i agree... but far crys environments are much much better. Compare Far Cry's forests to MGS attempts...

Hillel I don't understand why you could possibly love this game like it is the most awesome game ever made. You must work for the game company or have really low standards. As a shooter it is pretty average. The enemies all look the same and are pretty bland. The game looks average at times, sometimes its ok. Its like a shooter trying to be GTA but does none of the good things. It gets really old fast. I finally beat the game and played some online but just so I could collect the trophies. Luckily I found some sucker to trade me for Fallout 3 straight up.

I will say this, if Far Cry 2 came out say in the spring time when it is dead then it would be a nice distraction to eat some time but in this holiday season where there are far superior and worthwile games this game should be overlooked. It lacks substance to maintain interest. I am curious to see who actually finishes this game and picks it up again in a few months. This game will be forgotten in a few months and no one will remember it was ever here. It can't even hold the original Far Cry's jock strap. Sorry if you guys have low standards for games. Not me. You can settle for mediocre I will be busy with Little Big Planet, Resistance, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Left for Dead and Gears of War 2.

Resistance was a bore...average at best if you ask me. Your standards must be pretty low if you consider that to be one of the greatest.

Your post was OK until you thought you would try and act cool by saying other people have low standards for gaming but you dont.

If people say Far Cry 2 isn't awesome then that's fair enough. But the game is far from mediocre.

I am quite sure. I love shooters alot. Sorry not impressed. While I do admit there is potential there it just was not ironed out and deserved to be called an awesome game. Its just not sorry. Story sucks, enemies suck. SOme are smart some are dumb and can take multiple shots to the head. This game should even be called Far Cry 2 it has nothign to do with Far Cry. The graphics are not even great at times. Like this post says it is disappointing and I don't understand why anyone can call this game great. Its wrong! Its a falwed game live with it.

The only good thing about Far Cry 2 is the Map editor for multiplayer. Very nice and I wish other games did this

Not me. You can settle for mediocre I will be busy with Little Big Planet, Resistance, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Left for Dead and Gears of War 2.

mfarris2006

I'm not sure you were playing the same game as the rest of us. Are you sure you didn't have Haze or maybe Timeshift in by mistake?

I am quite sure. I love shooters alot. Sorry not impressed. While I do admit there is potential there it just was not ironed out and deserved to be called an awesome game. Its just not sorry. Story sucks, enemies suck. SOme are smart some are dumb and can take multiple shots to the head. This game should even be called Far Cry 2 it has nothign to do with Far Cry. The graphics are not even great at times. Like this post says it is disappointing and I don't understand why anyone can call this game great. Its wrong! Its a falwed game live with it.

It's a flawed game in your opinion and your the one that's gonna have to live with it. However, me and many others will enjoy this game for a long time to come and we'll gladly live with that:D

So far its great. Though Im not that far into it.

Travelling does take a wile though. I did that mission where you had to get a weapon prototype, I was not even close to the base and patrolls were everywhere, I had to cross a river 3 times to avoid the boars and jeeps, I had to take out a jeep with a grenade so they did not shoot me (I di that quite well actually, I hid behind a rock and listened to the engine till it was close enoughand through a grenade in its path), then I had to sneak for ages in grass macheteing people, then in the end I got spotted last minute in the base and got RPG'd from everywhere. SO annying.

Luckily some woman saved me :)

Thats the problem though, its not hard to get cought and if you have been sneaking for half an hour it feels like you just wasted all that time.

What? Are you high? How is it trying to be like GTA 4? I havent taken anyone bowling in Far Cry 2 yet.

And Resistance was an average, ultra linear shooter. I think you're full of crap anyway after you were coming on the forums bragging about all the games you've gotten before release date (like anybody cares).

edit* And another thing, didnt you post in a topic and have a little rant about how Gamespot sucked and you're going to the IGN boards and never coming back?

I wasnt talking about the PS3 version, I happen to own it for 360. My point was that is a far better shooter

I liked the game a lot but I don't understand what the big deal about the graphics is. The physics are amazing but critics are acting like the graphics are mgs4 and gears of war good. They seem to last gen.

I'm really enjoying FC2... I like the mixture of exploring/shooting/scouting. Hats off to Ubisoft for trying some new things in the game.

The combat system isn't bad, but the shooting could've been alittle better. Also the handling of vehicles. You can tell in some respect thats it's better suited to PC than consoles.

But overall, it's a definite buy for shooter fans!

i'm not disappointed because i didnt have high expectations since its Ubisoft game ( the original was from Crytek ).

i'm enjoying the game, i'm playing it on PC but to be honest, in gameplay, compared to Crysis ( 2007 game ) its small. there is no interaction which is really big negative. in this era, games should be more interactive, at least in FPS genre, which is most important thing is engine/graphics. in Crysis you can interact with almost everything, but in Far Cry 2, you cant even break crates, you cant shoot tires ( actually you can but nothing happens ).

i think, to prove they are lazy they chose africa environment to avoid rain, snow effects so day/night circle would be enough. in Crysis we saw rain, snow, day, night anything.

also AI is bad. i witnessed the same thing so many times, enemies run to you without firing anything then stop looks at different places, then looks at you and starts shooting. ofcourse while they are doing this, you shoot once at their head and they are dead. you can jump into 4-5 enemies and can kill them all because of weak AI, while in Crysis even with shield feature of nanosuit you cant face 4 enemies if you dont kill at least 2 of them with headshot.

oh my most frustrating point is whenever you jump into a vehicle, after a short time an enemy car appears chasing you while screwing your car with its never ending firing.i thought there was some exceptions but no, there is no exception. you have to deal with this car chasing and kill your pursuers to drive your car safely for only 2-3 minutes because they will appear again no matter where you drive...

though i say these, i enjoy the game because its big, driving didnt make me hate it yet but it seems i'm starting to be bored because the missions i get always appear on farthest land and until i go there i have to deal with car chases etc. shooting is fun, you can burn even trees, the game is big.

I'm not disappointed but there are a few things about that annoy me. And for some reason, I can't get the Trophy for finding all Safe Houses in the Northern Sector. I've been around the entire map, got every safe house and no Trophy. Ubisoft are fools.

I agree, i am seriously disappointed with this game. I found myself bored of it after just an hour of playing it, drive here, shoot everyone, now drive there and shoot everyone, what a bore. I am amazed they can roll out the same games over and over and still we all keep buying them.

The main problem is u people have been exposed to masterpieces like cod4 and msg4 and expect every game to be like that or close to that standard its just not possible to do that by all. farcry 2 is a brilliant game u sir do not have any patience to play slowly and need to be spoon fed everything. it is a wonderful game imo, yes travelling sucks but there are bus stops , offroad and other things to get to destinations fast and avoiding fights. i tried so hard to save my buddy and i succeded, felt so cool.

once u unlock more weapons it will be really fun u just have to do the side missions etc. and travelling is not all that bore u can find diamonds and stuff and make a plan on how to wipe out a check point in style and stuff.

farcry2 is a good game with minor flaws.

I'm having a blast with Far Cry 2. It's not a more-of-the-same shooter.

The way I see it, it's supposed to be a sand box fps. By eliminating travel times, they will completely destroy what they were aiming for in the first place...

Just writing to say that i was overall disappointed with Ubisoft's Far Cry 2 ,

My main problem was there was just WAY too much travelling to do and when your gun jams in the middle of a firefight that can get very annoying.

I don't mean to nag or put anyone off it's just that i got my hopes up for this game and for me it failed to deliver.

djxd101

Travelling and huge map scale is one of the reasons i purchased this game.It can appeal to some but to others this concept can totally be a sucker.

I think during missions youre using faulty guns (mostly the ones you pick up from checkposts). They are dirty and half broken.Try using your purchased guns during missions. The ones from the storage of gun shop are awesome. They last very long. They can easily take you through 3-4 fights.

If that doesnt help...Try getting the Reliability upgrade through gun shops. They cost very less, like 5 stones or something.

You know you don't always have to kill everyone. Most of the time you only have to kill one person or you have to blow up something. Also you're not really forced to play the game in a certain way(Rambo, sniping etc.) You can sneak into an enemy base if you want to, you can do some sniping if you want to, it's all up to you.

P.S. You must really hate the GTA series.

I like the occasional "brush fire" started by my flamethrower causing ammo stores to pop off bullets in every which direction killing guys as they run in fear.
