I never got into any of the Grand Theft Auto games. The hype machine for 4 is really kicking in with this new trailer, and I could really care less. Am I missing out? Or are others like me and just don't like or care about GTA?

You are definately missing out. GTA games are some of the best games ever made. I am totaly hyped for GTA IV.
I had alot of fun with GTA3, and less fun with GTA: VC. Then when GTA: SA came out, I beat the game but got bored of it really quickly. None the less though, I will be buying this game because it will be badass like all the others.
well, i played GTA since the original, but quit after vice city. it just got boring and pretty much is the same game every time. unless they revamp 4 a bunch, i wont pick it up, you just run out of stuff to do, and blowing crap up and shooting people is only fun for a bit. after you did it 5000 times, its horribly boring.

I hated every GTA game to date. Boring, repetative, boring you get the point. Anyway welcome to the club, we're few but strong.
all the gta's for last generation were really good, now that I think about it there really isn't any explanation as to why the game was so addictive.PSdual_wielder
Yes there is. It gives you the option, any game that gives you the option to do what you want can be addictive. (since we cannot legally go around running peeps over and shooting them in the USA or any civilized country)

Yes there is. It gives you the option, any game that gives you the option to do what you want can be addictive. (since we cannot legally go around running peeps over and shooting them in the USA or any civilized country) yea, but in every GTA game, after you got 5 stars doing the same crap more than like 10 times, it was boring and predictable. ive been through GTA1 to vice city, and i can tell you, they havent changed much. snore fest comes to mind. unless they come up with something new and fun to do in GTA4, im done with the series, and it can die for all i care. i feel the same for Halo, which was a great game, then 2 was kinda crappy, but ok, and im thinking 3 is going to be watered down garbage. some developers never learn when something is tired and time to think up a new game(im talking to you too mario bros and metroid, i loved you both on NES, and on SNES, but after that, you started to suck)

I'm the same way - I bought Vice City to see what the hype was all about, returned it after a week. Not necessarily a bad game, but the series doesn't do anything for me. Had more fun playing GTA I and II on PS1.

When GTA first came out it was great.. but now there are TONS of game that use the same system of a free open environment. Games, that are pretty much the same as GTA are.. The God Father, Saints Row etc... Deff Jam.

The hype has been all precedent. The last 3 major GTA games got off like nobodies business(not counting the 2 PSP games), so why shouldn't the next one? Plus it should be using the Table Tennis graphics engine and Immersion physics engine. So, if I'm not mistaken, I'm expecting a tight lookin' game with lots of realistic destruction and mayhem. Jack Thompson will be thrilled. 8)
It's all about personal preference, personally I don't like FPS, so I could care less about Resistance, Gears of War, Call of Duty, ect. However, I love RPGs and also action games like GTA.

Gears isn't a 1st person shooter....it's 3rd person, much like your GTA series.
I got bored with GTA 3 half way through the story (finished it though) and after 5 or so hours of VC I stopped playing. I even have a copy of VCS I got at a press event but I can't bring myself to play it. I found them really frustrating because of the bad cop AI. When you reached a certain point (I think 3 stars was it), you just couldn't get away, even if there's no one around who could see you flee which makes no sense. And the missions get so repetitive, plus usually I don't like developers recycling the same game over and over without adding too much. Maybe if SA directly proceeded GTA3, we had a deal, but with VC between, it's just minor updates to me

I liked the first couple, but then got really bored with San Andreas. When it takes you 15 minutes just to get from one city to the other, that becomes boring. It was the first GTA game that I didn't finish.
I started liking it sinse GTA and then london came out which wasnt that bad but when GTA 2 came, it was the dogs b0ll0ck$. I did enjoy the rest of them probably because of all the things you could find and do. Im really looking forward to this next one and cant wait for the trailer. I hope it isnt just a montage of the previous games and then the GTA4 writing at the end.

yes you are missing out, gta is such an open ended and fun experience that i think most people are hyping it
I bought a PS2 because of GTA3 and I thought that Vice and San Andreas both improved on the previous one. I'm excited to see what the next gen can bring for GTA, especially for the graphics.
i think gta is so successful because it enables u to do many realistic things that u cant do in real life and it just enables u to do what u really cant do outside u kno it also is a great game cuz its based on real life like mafia stories gangs and all that and u can do similar things that u would like to do in real life but maybe u cant cuz u dont have money or something like that. I think the idea of this game made it succesful
I thought vice city was awesome because of the setting alone. San andreas was cool because of the planes but less so because of the setting. For me it depends on when and where the next gta4 is

I thought GTA was just a fun game. Have been playing the series since part one back in the days. But I never really got what all the mega-hype about that game was about. It's probably the whole 'its cool to be a gangster' thing that I really can't relate to.

i am, i just never got into them. Id play them for like a week and then never again. Its very repetative.
I got GTA: SA (had never played a GAT game before), mainly because of the hype. Man oh man was I disappointed. That game is one of the most totally overrated games ever (way up there with DMC's and Halo's). The thing that amazed me the most was that SO many sites were giving it good marks for graphics. GRAPHICS??? WTF? It was one of the worst looking "new" PS3 games out, the "character models" were so blocky I could have used them as rulers. It's that one game that blew my trust in pretty much every gaming review site, total proof that hype will often win over reality. And complimenting the mini-games? Come on, half tacked on rubbish like dating to get cars, triathlons, biking etc? Come on, what was the point? I would have preferred a better looking and handling game than a thousand stupid mini-games. Didn't mind Vice City (which I only played last year because I got it for £5), found it way more enjoyable than SA (considering the age of it) but SA just made me "meh" towards the whole GTA series
