[QUOTE="Tobey"][QUOTE="americahellyeah"] AHA! totally forgot about that one... He's pretty damn epic too.. so i guess we're doing okay...americahellyeah
You see. ^^ Actually we germans are one of the most unattended nationalities, too. And we are used as the enemys quite often, too (WW2, but we were the bad guys there, so no problem with that :D ). Even we germans make games without german heroes in it (Ankh - egyptian hero, Crysis - american hero). Patriotism is definitely not one of our strong sides.

Well Canada is pretty passive as a nation.. so I understand why we don't see many hero's in games.. but yeah.. 90% of game hero's seem to be american...

It is so because of America's marketing machine and propaganda. "We're the best, blah blah blah" That's all it is. It wouldn't be different if it were any other country doing that. Though, in most games the heros are "Japanese" because they're made over there.:P

As far as I know Persia is now IRAN...so the Prince of Persia is in fact Arab.rogerjak
no my friend, Persians are not arab. they dont speak arabic and have a firecly different culture. as an arab myself, its easy for me to see this. for americans who only lsee iranians on tv with news stories about iraq and palestine right after, i have nothing against you for thinking this. and as for the TC, as a muslim and arab, of course ive noticed this. its pretty dissapointing at times. just yesterday i was playing army of two with my nephew, and noticed how all the people i was killing were arabs, there was dialogue in arabic as well that was actually really funny (they were talking like arabs over how well the cup of coffe they just drank was "a little to ripe, but not bad" "yea yea, my mom wife makes great cofee you should try it some time" which was really entertaining seeing as how thats a pretty common thing to talk about food in arabic. in that respect, its pretty fun at times when the developers seem to actually have arabs on the scene while their developing the game. as for MGS4 i was playing a few days ago, i was dissapointed. in the first act all the stuff wasnt arabic, if u got up close it was just scribbles. the arabs talked in english, and i couldnt even tell by the story if these were mercenaries dressed in arab clothes or actual arabs. there also was a muslim character in X-Men comic's. her name was Sand, but she wasnt arab, she was Afghani. the most dissapointing to see if when one of my favorite rappers, Busta Rhymes, makes a rap about arab money but lacks to even ask someone like DJ Khaled or T-Pain or Akon what to say in his little refrain over Bi la la shiki bi lala, which doesnt mean anything and is just noises. in the long run, yes, i really want a legit arab and muslim character in a game some time soon, since AlTair didnt cut it (he was of the hashasheen, very complicated but he wasnt legit muslim, and his loyalty was very much gone as part of the hashasheen)

I'm a Arab Muslim as well (kinda shows right there in the name).

I loved the fantasy setting that the new Prince of Persia is set up, reminscient of the Middle Eastern fantasy stories. i do get the main character is supposed to be Persian.

I've always considered Altair to be an Arab, maybe not Muslim, but definently Arab.(they didn't play up the religious aspects so much).

If it's any consulation, Aladdin from the Kingdom Hearts series, as well as his only movie tie in games from the SNES days (Which were not bad games either).

I played Battlefield 2 for at least three years, just raking up the hours playing as the Middle Eastern Coalition. There may not be a central narrative of who is the bad guy and who are the good guys, you could imagine yourself as being the good guys.

I get it that Arabs are the new people to hate (don't believe me? look at history Native Americans, Germans, Italians, Japanese (anyone Asian), the Chinese (there was a law specifically stopping them from coming to America), the Irish, Mexicans, Blacks, the list goes on).

I get it. I don't mind games like Counter Strike, Call of Duty (which is still freakin' awesome), Conflict, numerous numerous games featuring the Arab side as the distinct bad guys. and i don't mind bad guys (like COD4), bad guys done right are awesome. But there is still a plethora of games featuring us as the bad guys, and that is soley due to the fact of what's happening in the real world. Games need to sell, it is a business, and there are a lot of people who wanna act out their fantasy of fighting the good fight, especially if it is relevant to what's going on in the real world. My only real hope is that we don't become the Nazi's of films and games. the eternal bad guy image.

People don't understand Arabs and the Islam faith, especially Americans, that's why no one makes video games with them as protagonist.

A lot of people are too stupid to differentiate between a terrorist and a real Muslim.

I really, really hate to say it, but it's slowly heading in that direction.

As incredibly stupid as it would be, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Call of Duty game with a mode called Muslim Zombies in the future. It would sell too, because here in America, there's this horrible predisposition that all Muslims = terrorists.

Oh yeah, and for the record... Muslims have as much a right to Israel as the Jews do. :P

Anyway in regards to this I don't think that that is entirely true. Maybe some Americans are still brainwashed by the propaganda pouring out of the years after 9/11 but now I think people understand a bit better. Also part of the problem could be is that the culture is so different that it makes the main character hard to relate to.

You may have seen a better, more educated, side of people, but I haven't. The people around my way aren't exactly in the know.

I still think there's a general view of Muslims that's negative just because of the extremists. If you say Muslim, most people I've talked to immediately think terrorist.

Honestly, I think it just became number three. Nazi's were the first. Russians were the second and now Arabs are the third.

That is true. Just like most of them over there think all Americans are "crusading Christians". It's all stupid as far as I'm concerned.

I should add, even though this isn't about games.

I am half white and half Arab. and i have inherited most of my mothers caucasion traits. even though my name, is distinctly Arabic, and i can speak and read the language well enough (not fluent but proficient).

I'll just share my nickname, Adam.

There are times, where - for example - i'll go into a barbershop, and something like the Iraq, or the Middle East issues will come up. i'll throw some questions in. and more often then not i get two responses.

Either i get a really naiive answer (we just need to get out of there and they'll leave us alone - sorry it's too late for that), or i get a really hateful/ignorant answer (I.E. they're not advanced enough to be able to operate as a democracy, or they're tought to hate from a young age).

Almost never do i hear a rationale arguement. sometimes i'll come clean at the end and reveal who i really am and where i'm from, and i just wanted to know what they really thought. it's amazing how many people just turn bright red when they find out.

It only proves the idea that people wear masks, and if they cannot distinguish you at first glance they may just assume your just one of them.

It's called appealing to the demographic. Many games are developed in North America, Europe, and Japan. So it's likely alot of the heroes will be of one of those decent. And this is exactly what we do see. But its not to say there will be no characters from other backgrounds (as was mentioned PoP, Assassins creed, GTASA, etc).

That's because a lot of Americans are kept ignorant to a lot of things. Even crap that's going on in their own country. Because it doesn't matter if it's actually wrong or not. "America is always the good guy" and people won't question their actions. It doesn't matter what they do. It's black and white to most.

im actually 100% arab, syrian, and muslim as well. personally i dont see arabs as so distintivley different people cant relate. i live in chicago, aand most people arent that ignorate, i mean, im in highschool and my friends might bring up my heritage, but its in the same way we say something about a black kid as a joke. arabs are slowly integrating into the culture, and surley enough in time i think we can settle a mainstream Arab American culture somewhat the same way african americans have.

i wont be surprised if we see like arab american portaginist in a game, or something to that degree sometime soon.

I've never really met an Arab in real life... it makes sense, though, I mean what Arab would move all the way out to Washington state fromt he Middle East?

It's like a pacific islander moving all the way out to New York.

And I'm pacific islander, so I know where they're supposed to be, lol.

alrighty that was just a little too much of an UNeducated comment. there are a ton of arabs out here in america. alot infact, that immigrate for better lives. my whole family is in the medical field, sisters being pharmacists and brothers doctors, my dad a doctor, my brother in law one as well. im still in school as the youngest. what u just said about middle easterners coming out heree was pretty dumb, as people immigrate all over the world foro a multitude of reasons.

lol, I didn't mean America, I was talking about the Western side of it.

More Arab/Jewish/European immigrants stay on the East cost because it's closer. I was commenting on why I don't have any Arab friends, in response to your comment on you and your friends joking, because there are just less Arabs on the Western United States than on the East.

I live in the West.

You completely misunderstood what I said.

Yeah, ur right almost all games just have american persian asian or european characters nowadays...

I get what u mean and it would be nice having different races of characters every now and then like arabs or indians or more african american characters that are good guys and main characters....

Also i think they keep the characters those races because americans have money to buy games(strong currency)& so do the europeans and also they can relate if their american and european, asians because they make most games and also have karate ninjitsu and all those other forms of fighting thats cool..... And persian?? I dunno bowt that 1......

Where's all the black guys? Where's all the black females? I know of CJ from San Andreas, but that's all I can think of. Where's the Jewish heroes? Where's the Australians and the Argintinians? Heck, where's the Mississippi-born heroes? There's are many nationalities and ethnic groups missing from the gaming industry, not just Arabs. YOu just have to look at where most games are created. You either get your average english-speaking white guys or a Japanese guy who speaks english and looks like a white guy. I wouldn't feel left out. We're all left out.

Jfisch93
Too bad some people beleive that people from a cave were the cause of 911. The US government sponsored and trained the terrorists. There are so many questions unanswered, they don't want to answer them and if u ask them about it, they say "How could u dare the goverment official story?". It was an inside job, the main "terrorist" attacks are done by the goverment, so that they can take our liberties.

Kind of related and kind of not, but nonetheless... I'm fully english - born english, live in England, go to an english school... but my skin colour is so ever so slightly darker. If black was 10, and white was 0, I'm like 2.5 and yet everyone I seem to meet automatically think different religion and different birthplace. I don't really understand that logic but it never turns out good; normally turns into jokes and racism but I just ignore it. And these people are gamers now, even if its just the Wii, and I think that's why developers won't touch it.

After 9/11 America is still sensitive to Arabic people.

ludacriss

Too bad some people beleive that people from a cave were the cause of 911. The US government sponsored and trained the terrorists. There are so many questions unanswered, they don't want to answer them and if u ask them about it, they say "How could u dare the goverment official story?". It was an inside job, the main "terrorist" attacks are done by the goverment, so that they can take our liberties.

this is a gaming site man not a conspiracy theory site lol and if you really dont want the government to do such things you have to rally the people against it so just talking about what they did doesnt really matter unless you do something about it

Nephilim83

Hell, I don't even know any Latino heroes either. Like you said, a lot of people are ebing left out.

With all the immense amount of games being created and released worldwide, I have come to realise that most gaming of the gaming characters in the games we have today and the games of yesteryear were all from different ethnicity's not to get into specifics but some would be (American, Japanese, Persian, European) but never arab, if at all the only time i to my knowledge Arabs have been portrayed in games are as basically the bad guys.

Now im not mad in anyway at all, in fact on exception i saw was when assassins creed came out having an arab well lets say Anti-Hero is better than nothing.

I just want to know everyone elses opinion on the matter.

Deserteagle138

May be companies think this is better this way , I will never buy a game with with an arab guy as main charachter

I am from egypt and I am a muslim ,and I didnt buy call of duty 4 bec I dont like to see the arabic countries been attacked in the games and see them attacking mosques ,I wont put a cent of dollar in a game that attack arab people in it.

Any way let me talk about the games that they attack the arab people in it,I know that this games makes the american people want to go for a war ,bec alot of young guys in united state loves the shooting games ,then when they play this games they love how to attack and how is the shooting in it,simply the compnies work really hard to make the shooting games looks beatuful and they care soo much about the physics and the graphics, for me I can tell that the war games now is just a politics that united state use to make the american people love the war and go for it,but sadly they found them self in the really wrong place and they start to get crazy.I dont care if they do arabic hero or what ever ,but I wish that united state stop doing that and I hope that the american guys come and talk to muslim people,I belive there is alot of good people at united state ,I hope they belive that about us too.

thanks man for thinking about arabic people.
