Before replying, please read what I am asking: Are you happy with your ps3? and if so, why?

I am asking PS3 owners (you have to OWN a ps3 to reply please!) if they are happy with their ps3 purchase. You can own all 3 consoles, or just one, 2, whatever, but I would like to know if you are happy with your ps3, and why you are happy. Please do not start a systems war, as I am not asking if you think one console is better than the other. I think all 3 consoles have their strengths and weaknesses, and one is not necessarily better than the other. I am just trying to see what about the PS3 makes you happy or disappoints you.

The reason I ask is because as ps3 owner I am very happy with my purchase, and am glad how the ps3 is going to get so many great games in the next upcoming months, and in the direction it is heading. I feel it is truly attempting to fulfill its ten year strategy. It also has great features, such as bluray, great reliable hardware, and compliments my hd tv. BC would be great, but at this point all the great multiplats and exclusives coming out make this a moot point for me. This is all opinion and not fact so no flaming please!

I guess I am trying to give proud PS3 owners a chance to state that they are happy with their purchase and why. And if not, what specifically would make the ps3 great for you.

Side note:

Please Keep the discussions limited to the PS3 only!!!! The reason I didn't put this in system wars is because it doesn't belong there. I am asking PS3 owners to state reason of why they are happy (or unhappy) with their ps3, NOT to compare it to other consoles, or speak of other consoles, just to keep discussions on the ps3 and all its glory and minor shortcomings (if any).

I love mine. Of course I love the games but I also love the fact that it does much more from streaming vids from my pc to playing music through my surround sound to browsing the web.

I love my PS3. Its the only console and its the only console I will own until a new playstation comes out. I love it because of all the things it can do and all of its great games. MGS4 could be one of the best games ever made and I also love Ratchet and CLank, Uncharted, WipEout HD, burnout paradise, battlefield bad company and many other games.

I love my PS3 so much I have even upgraded the HDD to 250gb so I can download and install more games. The music, video and psp connectivity features are also great. I love PSN, the store and trophies. I don't think there is anything on the PS3 I don't like, the only thing that could improve the PS3 is if things came out sooner, like Home.

Why? What about the ps3 makes you say ps2 was better? Obviously besides the games, or is it just that?

I own both a 360 and a PS3, which I bought simply to play MGS4, and personally I love the thing. I don't have too many games for it just yet (MGS4, SCIV, and the Force Unleashed) but I love it. It is a VERY functional machine. The features are very easy to use, and we all know the thing is a graphics power house. I just can't wait to get a HDTV to use blu ray lulz.

It took a little while for the software library to get going, but I'm very happy with my PS3 purchase. I have the 60 GB model with backwards compatibility, so I was able to give away my PS2 as a gift without losing much. Setting up the WiFi connection was surprisingly easy. The games look spectacular on my HDTV, and I no longer have to worry about the PlayStation version of multiplatform games looking noticeably inferior. I'm glad that Sony made the right choice and brought back rumble to their controllers. Bluetooth technology is impressive for distance and for not being affected by line-of-sight barriers - for example, if someone walks in front of the TV while I'm playing, I can pause my game without having to wait until they get out of the way. Also, now that I have a Blu-ray player, that's the only way I'll watch movies at home when I have a choice.

Lastly, in addition to the games I have already bought, I know that the PS3 will be home to the only exclusive titles that I am currently looking forward to (God of War 3, the next from Team ICO, the next Jak and Daxter, the Uncharted sequel, Heavy Rain).

[EDIT] It's worth mentioning that the PS3 has been reliable when it comes to the hardware.

I've got the original US-launch 60GB PS3. It's a PS3, a PS2, a PS1, a Blu-Ray player, and an all-in-one multimedia hub for pictures, music, and video - what's not to love? Once a get an HDTV and a digital camera, I'll have even more uses for my PS3than just playing all my PS1/PS2/PS3 games, which is basically the only thing I'm using it for right now.

For some reason, Sony has been acting as if they had a commanding lead in this generation of gaming consoles, when in reality, they are last. Sony needs to show more of a sense of urgency and passion like they did with the PS2. Enough of this 10 year plan crap - we get it - you have the most potential and upside, but that means **** in the present. Quit acting like you've accomplished something, be humble, and start acting like you should be - you're in last place in the console race, damnit, now show some me hustle!

Also, some RPGs would be nice. :P

I love my PS3. I have all systems and each one has it's strengths. but...

1) I'm very satisfied with the game lineup. There are many great games and tons to look forward to this year.

2) Free online. woot!

3) I love the controller design. I'm so glad Sony stayed with the DS design. Don't fix it if it aint broke!

4) HDMI

5) Blu-Ray (I have a substantial blu-ray collection and I love that the PS3 has a drive built in.)

5) I love the sleek design of the console.

There are many other things but these are the major ones.

I am indeed a proud PS3 owner. There are numerous reasons why I love my PS3 ( Blueray, Free PSN, third party exclusives, streaming media, etc.) but the main reason has to be that I'm a Sony fanboy. Guilty as charged.

1.) B/C is probably one of the greatest things the Ps3 had to offer and is my pride and joy. I love classic PsX games ala FF, plus the ever growing Ps2 collection is massive with tons of gems scattered through out. With the features as: Full Screen / Smoother Frames completely changes the game experience on either the PsX or Ps2 to amazing heights. It really makes a huge difference and brings back some sweet moments that are even better. (If I didn't have it, I would probably cry...)

2.) The Blu-Ray player is the second best thing this machine/multimedia player has too offer. Blu-ray won the war and is now the corner stone of the Sony PlayStation 3. Every game and movie that contains BD's are more durable and has the ability to contain more content on a single disc, which is impressive and the fact it's all in HD. I love watching Blu-Ray HD movies because im a movie whore...ok that was kind of weird, but I plan on having a huge collection of movies to watch in HD as well as having a system that supports games ala PlayStation 3. (The ceiling is high for Sony and with the Blu disc the future is bright)

3.) The system is not only looks great, but it also has some specs that help it significantly. The Built in Wi-Fi is excellent and wire free. I don't know if that matters to anyone else, but my room doesn't contain wall plug in, so it picks up the signal from the computer room. USB ports were genius; which charges the batteries and also allows you too plug in other accessories though it; such as, PSP.

Online is free and thats a big plus for me. I couldn't see anyone complaining about that I would hope. Why pay for something thats free right?? The online play is pretty sweet (even though im not a huge online person, but some what casual I would say). The Playstation Store is cool with lots of content as in Play Demo's and additional game add-ons. Blu-Ray and Game trailers are a plus and easy to watch. Other then that I sometimes use the Internet, but I would much rather use the PC for that of course.

The new updates are a pleasent surprise sometimes and continous to add other content. Trophies were sweet and in-game messaging was awesome; which made it easier I would assume.

4.) I really like the exclusives that the Ps3 are going to offer in the upcoming months. Resistance was great and R2 should be even better. Killzone 2 looks promising and LBP is looking pretty unique. I met a lot of friends that play SOCOM (which Ive never played, but are really intrested in joining me into there clan once it's release, so that sounds like fun). Uncharted was a pretty sweet game and a even better looking one at that. Folklore looked good, plus I played the review and plan on playing it soon or a later, but havn't since it's not on my "must have" list, but the future looks promising for that franchise. Grand Turismo is probably the best Racing game ever made and have been with that series since the first, so that a Huge plus. And enough is said about Metal Gear Solid 4... Just look at my review for more info.

5.) The Music and Pictures are a plus. Remote-Play is the second greatest content the Ps3 has to offer, which is like having a Multimedia console and Handheld on the go and fly, while STILL! playing Ps1/Ps2 games on it. It's pretty awesome and comes in handy quite nicely.

I'm a casual gamer I would say and it fits me extremely well. I don't have much complaints, because it's my main source when I get home from work or school; which allows me to just kick back and play games, listen to music, watch a Blu-ray movie on my Big screen or just soon to kick back on HOME.

Yes, I am a proud PS3 owner and am very happy with my purchase. There are two things that I love to do: watch movies and play video games. For me, the PS3 delivered exactly what I wanted from an electronic device/gadget. I absolutley love the ability to watch Blu-ray movies on my HDTV and the game selection is great on the PS3. Out of all the consoles that I have, I own more PS3 games than all the others combined; a testament to the PS3's appeal to my own tastes. Also, I think the exclusives are fantastic and are probably the best of this generation.

With that said, there is one, and only one thing that I wish my PS3 could do. PS2 backwards compatibility. Having recently purchased my PS3 i was unable to get my hands on one of the older models that had BC. Although I own alot of PS1 games (and its great I can still play em on my PS3) I do own (and wish to continue getting) PS2 games to add to my collection. But without BC, I'm left with a shelf of games I cant play. And to all of you who say "just go out and get a PS2" I am thinking about it, but still, it would be nice for this one console to encompass and fulfill all my PS1, PS2 and PS3 needs.

Other than that one point, I've never had as much fun with video games as I am having with my PS3. I love it! :D

Please do not ignore the very wise request of the original poster, as quoted above. He is asking abvout the PS3, not the 360, not the Wii. Don't bring them up even in comparison. This will at best be considered off-topic and moderated as such. At worst, it will be considered trolling and the penalty will be much more hefty. Thanks for understanding.

I'm happy that I have a PS3, but atm I'm not too proud. MGS4 is a great game, but besides that, there hasn't really been many great exclusives for the PS3, also, cause the games are kinda expensive in this current gen.

I don't personally associate pride with console ownership. I buy consoles to have fun with them, but they aren't a point of pride for me. (Unless they are collector's items and hard to get).

However, I make an exception for my 60GB PS3. I bought it way back when the 60GB model was still available, and I was second-guessing myself the entire time. What ultimately made the difference was that I needed a Bluray player, and since I knew the PS3 was that, it made sense to go ahead and invest in it for that and worry about the games later.

That came with another blessing though that I hadn't thought about at the time. For one, since I bought the 60 GB model, I have that wonderful hardware backwards-compatibility for both PS1 and PS2 games, and with the anti-aliasing and upscaling available in a later update to the firmware, games appear much better on my two HDTVs than with the original models of the PS1 or PS2. Given that this hardware-based BC has been dropped in later models, I am very happy (and maybe even proud) that I decided to be an early adopter.

I am a proud PS3 owner. I have a decent amount of games for the system already, and more are on the way that I also plan to buy. I like that the console is also a blu ray player, and have built up a pretty extensive library of movies because of it. I love how I was able to replace the HD and give myself tons of space for music, videos, and game demos. As a whole I love the console itself.

IMO, this thread will be people who do nothing but praise the PS3, or someone will say they don't like the PS3 and then this will turn into a flame war. So, to avoid doing either, I'll say that I'm a PROUD owner of all 3 current gen consoles and that I like each console for different reasons. :)

Given that this hardware-based BC has been dropped in later models, I am very happy (and maybe even proud) that I decided to be an early adopter.

mozart, don't all ps3s use software emulation for ps1 titles?

Also I wouldn't say proud but I do lurve that big sexy black machine.=) I seriously haven't played any ps2 games since January when I got hooked on cod4. Sure not as many games are available as on ps2 but the caliber of the games is higher.(not all games. I'm looking at you haze.) I spent almost 700 hours on call of duty 4 online. I think that is the most I have ever spent on one single game. And the free online gaming rocks. I have a hard time wanting a game that doesn't have an online component.

Side note:

Please Keep the discussions limited to the PS3 only!!!! The reason I didn't put this in system wars is because it doesn't belong there. I am asking PS3 owners to state reason of why they are happy (or unhappy) with their ps3, NOT to compare it to other consoles, or speak of other consoles, just to keep discussions on the ps3 and all its glory and minor shortcomings (if any).

m0zart

Please do not ignore the very wise request of the original poster, as quoted above. He is asking abvout the PS3, not the 360, not the Wii. Don't bring them up even in comparison. This will at best be considered off-topic and moderated as such. At worst, it will be considered trolling and the penalty will be much more hefty. Thanks for understanding.

:? Are we allowed to say the things we don't like about the PS3? Personally I try to never say anything negative about a console on its specific board out of fear of being moderated for trolling and/or starting a flame war.

To be honest there are several things I like and dislike about the PS3. What I like: Blu ray functionality, free wallpapers on PSN, built in wifi, and it's a beautiful console. What I don't like: that thus far, IMO, the PS3 has not lived up to Sony's hype. I also don't like that few people use mics on PSN. Overall though, I purchased my PS3 as a Blu ray player and in that regard my PS3 his met, and exceeded, my expectations.

You're free to mention what you don't like about a system in it's forum but when you start mentioning another system it's not ok. But still people may flame you depending on your wording. Saying a system doesn't have any games you like is different than OMG PS3 HAS NO GAMES SUXXORZ! I don't think any company really has delivered on the hype they claim. But that doesn't mean the systems don't still kick butt.

I've owned all 3 current-gen consoles at one time or another, I got my PS3 on 9/12 and MGS4 (first game) soon after. I am very happy with my purchase, the games look great, even on SD, and I had virtually no problem adjusting from the controller of *Microsoft's console* to the PS3. I'm doing fine with shooters, I might be on my 4th or 5th MGS4 playthrough at this point;)

Nope. The original 20 and 60 GB models both used hardware for backwards compatibility. The later models were the first to use software emulation.

Meaning us 60GB owners have the Emotion Engine, while others have Software emulations....

Yep, I'm happy with it, it's just as good as I expected and better in some ways. I think it's funny how people say it's exclusive library is lacking. I've owned the other HD console for about twice as long as my PS3 but I already have more exclusive games on the PS3.
