I thought of this while playing rdr..one of the best games ever with great characters and awesome story..it has alot of story modes that make you sometimes think that you're watchin a movie or something...it's amazing watching story mode in some games even though some of them really take long time..but generally i just want to know do you prefer watching the story mode "at any game not only rdr" or you just skip them and play the game?

Depends on the game. Most of the time I will definitely watch the cut scenes. However if I'm "lukewarm" on a game and want to get through it as soon as possible, or if the story is just bad I'll skip through it.

Take for example Metroid Prime. While one of the greatest games of all time, I admit I skipped over just about every story fragment I picked up.

However when it comes to games like Uncharted 2, God of War III, Heavy Rain, Episodes from Liberty City, RDR, etc I watch every minute of every cut scene and I find the story an integral part of the experience.

Singleplayer all the way. I refuse to touch multiplayer in 90~98% of games until the SP is 'handled'.

The way I take it is you are asking if we watch cutscenes and pay attention to the story? OF COURSE! I love a good story and even if it isnt a good story I still watch the scenes. I think anyone who likes JRPG's must be like me.

I deal with most of it. If not for the amazing storyline and character development (think Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, or RDR) then it's for comedic reasons. Some characters are just humorous and some dialog is laughably bad (the first Resident Evil, all the talking between Natko and Garza in Killzone 2, etc).

I won't lie, there are some cutscenes I just skip. Like Metal Gear Solid 4. Love that game, been with the series since the beginning, but there were some rambling sections that became irritating. I felt like I had been watching them for days so I usually just skipped it. I was a little shocked to find that I never missed out on anything vastly important. Granted, I would watch all the scenes with plot twists, but there were a lot of unnecessary talking sections in that game.

I never skip on the story with any game no matter how silly the story is. It's only second to gameplay for me so I hold it really highly when I purchase games.

Story comes first pretty much 100% of the time for me.. except for FPS (then its about 20% story, 80% multiplayer)

I am confused about the topic :?

On my first playthrough I always watch cutscenes. I don't want to skip it as it makes the story's experience incomplete. :)

I am a fan of story mode, multiplayer is fun but it depends on the game. :)

It really depends. If its a game with an excellent story I always watch the cutscenes. But if it has a weak story or one that I find boring or uninteresting Ill normally skip the cutscenes, as long as a game has good gameplay ill keep playing

Same, with a few exceptions. I skipped Star ocean international cut scenes but if you skipped there was a paragraph summing up what the cut scene was about (although i didn't know that when i did it lol the scene was seriously dragging).

I always watch the cutscenes. Game developers put them in for a reason and spend a lot of time on them. They are pieces of art that deserve to be recognized.....unless the game is utter garbage, then I just turn it off and don't play it.

I watch it all the first time around. They took the time to make it and it provides entertainment aside from the gameplay, it adds details gameplay itself doesn't always have, and i wanna be sucked into a game, which can't happen if i skip over the story itself.

That's great and all, but you didn't answer the question.

I watch all the cutscenes the first time. If I die and have to replay the cutscene, I will skip through it.

O.o I always watch the cut scenes, unless of course it's right before a boss then I proceed to die or something, then I'll skip ahead to the fight. I'm a Square Enix fan, I love my half hour cutscenes :P

I play games mostly for a good story so i dont skip cutscenes unless ive since it before. Sometimes if i skip a scene by mistake i restart the game at my last save file just to see that scene.

NaveedLife

Oh yeah. When I play games like Tales of the Abyss or Dark Cloud 2, I have to watch every cutscene. JRPGs like those are very story driven, and because the stories are so long, I feel a connection to the characters after experiencing so much with them.

I hate it when people always skip cutscenes. Sometimes friends will tell me "Just skip it, skip it. Come on." I tell them "Hold on, I wanna know what happens."

I always have to watch every cutscene unless I've already seen it. I feel like I have to know what's going on.

The thing I hated the most about Resistance 1 was the lack of a good story. The longest cutscene was about 20 seconds and Nathan Hale had about 4 lines throughout the whole single player campaign. Most of the story was summarized by the female narrator before and after each mission.

Definitely, if a game doesn't have a decent narrative it's hard to continue playing if I feel there is no real goal.

^ this. A huge part of why I play games is story. My sister's step son came over once and I let him play Uncharted 2. He was skipping the cut scenes on..... it was pissing me off big time. Not to mention the kid is a huge tool overall.

i always play the story mode before going online or playing with anything else. except of MW2. i just skipped the story and went straight into multiplayer. but i eventually did go back and beat the campaign.
