I heard that the old 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB versions of the Playstation 3 offer backwards compatibility. Does the new 80GB and 40GB offer some backwards compatibility for both previous Sony console games? Maybe through software emulation like the Xbox 360? My tax refund is coming soon and I'll be able to finally own a PS3 in the coming weeks. I just need to know if I should get a new PS2 controller as well to replace the one I currently own.

The new versions do NOT have PS2 BC anymore. They can only play PSone titles.

Currently it's only the 80GB and 160GB that are officially still in production. Neither can play PS2 titles

no only the ones that came out during the launch by the way, if you have ps2 bc, i heard after a while it gets a little rusty so you might want to keep your ps2 around just in case

Don't you own a PS2? I hate when people whine about backwards compatibility like they don't know what they'd do without it.

There are far too many awesome PS3 titles for me to care if i can play my old PS2 games. :P

Spot the fanboy.. :| Anybody who tries to defend the lack of backwards compatabilty is an utter deluded fool. Yws people most likly have PS2's but its a big pain to go dragging them out and setting them up to play PS2 games when originally the had bc in the first place! Plus it sucks having to go back to a wired contoller :P

I'd love to have backwards compatibility in my PS3, but my PS2 is permanently set up, alongside my PS1. Recently I've been playing PS2 alot more since I started playing Persona...But Killzone 2 tomorrow :D

I agree. I wasn't whining about it. I just wasn't knowledgeable on the subject. It wasn't like BC was going to stop me from getting the console. I let my sister's boyfriend borrow my PS2, and when I got it back the controller didn't work. I just thought that if the PS3 had BC I wouldn't need to get a new PS2 controller. Besides I still have hard copies of Tomba, Colony Wars, Tobal, Final Fantasy VII, MGS. Gran Turismo, etc, etc. So I hope you understand why I asked.

Quick question. What other accesories do you all suggest I get with the PS3? I'm a big Xbox Live user as well, and I was just wondering what should I be downloading from PSN when I do get a PS3?
