The NGP is going to be coming out around the holiday season, so I hear. I'm not really sure if buying a PSP now would be a smart decision or not. What do you guys think...am I wasting my money by buying a PSP now? Will they continue to make games for the PSP 3000 once the NGP comes out? Also, if I do decide to purchase the 3000, what are 2-3 games I should start out with?

The good thing about getting a game console this late in it's life span is how you will have a large library of cheap games available to play. Just because a new psp comes out does not mean you can't enjoy the old one.

I would probably wait if I were you... I have a PSP 3000 that gets used mostly as a comic reader... I loved Peace Walker... But the other games I own are not compelling enough to keep me playing (GTA: Chinatown Wars, X-Men Legends 2, Dissidia, and a couple other games I can't remember).

If you are planning on getting an NGP the day it comes out, I would not recommend getting the PSP 3000. All the UMD's you compile from now and then will be unusable with the NGP. If you want to keep your 3000 and keep playing UMD's along with having an NGP, that's cool.

But if you get a PSP Go and start buying downloadable games instead of UMD's, you'll be able to transfer those over to the NGP.

It really depends on how you want to spend your money. Like the others said, you'll have a great library of games to choose from, but you'll be throwing your money down the toilet once you can't play those old games on your NGP.

Personally, I'd hold off. From how Sony's making it sound, you should be able to buy most of the psp's best games online for the ngp anyway. But if you feel you just have to have it, it depends on what kind of games you like. If you like plarformers I'd go with Loco Roco 2. Rpgs - Idk, there are a ton of good ones. Shooters - Syphon Filter (either one is a great). Action - The Warriors. Fighting - Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Blazblue, etc. Other than that, the GTA games would probably give you the most for your money.

I would still get the PSP. I use mine all the time because I can get games so cheap. Plus the NGP is still such a long ways away, plus who knows how long it will take to find one, or how much it will coast. So I say get one, you'll like it. (plus you will still be able to play your downloaded games on the NGP).

You can't really blame the system because you made poor purchasing choices. Dissidia, X-Men, and GTA are at the lower end of the PSP library IMHO...

If you are a fan of RPG's I say get a 3000. The library for solid RPG's is impressive. I'm not going to be an early adapter of NGP. The pricetag will be huge I'm sure, and I'll wait to let them sort out the issues and build a solid library before I jump onboard. That will give me plenty of time to finish all the PSP games I've been waiting to get around to.

For those not buying the NGP on day one, the 3000 is the way to go. UMD's will plummet once the NGP arrives.

My only (tiny) gripe with the system is that if you have big hands, the psp is slightly cramped (analogue stick and direction pad being too close to each other). Not saying the psp is a bad system, it has some good games on it.

Agree.

I third this. While there's not a plethora of great games, there's still quite a few to choose from. If you like rpgs, then Tactics Ogre, Phantom Brave, Final Fantasy Tactics, Lunar, and more. If you like shooters, there's Killzone, SOCOM, Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, and others. There are also plenty of sports, fighters, and action/adventure games as well. You will still have plenty of time to save up for the NGP when it arrives as well as enjoy some quality time with a PSP, so I feel it's definitely worth it.

Just read something on gamespot and it said the NGP might get delayed by the Japanese earthquake.

There's a good chance NGP will launch this year in Japan, maybe delayed till next year overseas. If you're compelled about the games that are out and especially plan to download games (since the NGP is compatible with downloaded PSP and Psone games etc). I say go for it.

Hello,

I'm in the same boat as the op, and yes i'm a huge rpg fan... just asked for a borrowed psp to get a taste and i'm loving persona 3 so far...

However, let's do some math. Currently the 3ds is at 250$ so let's say the ngp is at 350$. If i buy a 3000 now it's retailing for 130$ so if i was an earlier ngp adopter if i save this value the ngp would cost me 350-130 = 220$ which is lower than the 3ds which really puts me on the fence atm :/ of course i'm not factoring the price drops for the psp games which will be huge after the ngp launches and will give you the chance to build your library faster, but the ngp can still play those games if you get them through the store which is also a huge advantage... (and i'm making up a price :p).

I just wished i could know what games they have planned for the launch and the following moths, that would answer my questions for sure...

You're overthinking this, lol. It's not all about nickels and dimes you know... and the NGP very likely won't even make it to the US this year.

This really is an easy answer. Buy a PSP now. You could be enjoying all the current PSP titles now instead of waiting around for the next year.

I have been asking myself this same question. I have decided to save up now for the NGP and skip the PSP. Seeing the NGP will play all downloadable PSP games, I can still play the few games I would like to check out for the PSP. And seeing that I have started saving now ($50/week), I will have plenty of money saved up for when it gets here and can buy whatever games I want for it when it releases as well as the PSP games I want for it.
