For me it has to be Knights of the Old Republic 1. the story was very good that would not let you go. action, drama, romance and suspense this story had it all. the twist in this game compares to the twist that the movies had when people found out that vader was luke's father, if you have gone through this game u know what im talking about. part 2 sucked (the game that is, the movies rock) and i am hoping that KOTOR 3 comes out soon.
Seeing as how we're on the PS3 boards I'd go with Assassin's Creed, and the Darkness. Sadly, there isn't much in those games for me to warrant another play through.

yea i do have a PS3 and was thinking of PS3 games, but when i was thinkning of the best game story i wanted to say Heavenly Sowrd but then i remembered how awsome KOTOR was and im hoping they cross platform the third installment
COD4 is the most recent one. It was short, but incredibly violent. If you look up real footage of the gunship level you won't see the campaign in the same light.
definately the kingdom hearts games, the story was so dam good, god of war games aswell, but my ultimate fave story would havta be FFX.....best ff ever
Definitely Final Fantasy VII & VIII for me. If ever that game is going to be re-made, that's the first time I'm gonna line up outside a store the night before it comes out.

Kingdom hearts 1 + 2 were pretty sweet, I liked reading the ansem/seret ansem reports, it made the story feel alot more deep, and pooh bear sidequests ftw.
The Metal Gear Series has a really good story to it, felt as though you were playing through a long film all the time. Although I have to say FF7 has the best story imo. It kept me very immersed in the game anyway!
I loved Xenogears story but I felt like the last half of it started to give out as the game took on more of a narrative to get you to the next parts instead of actually letting you play most of them out. KOTOR, on the other hand, blew my mind with it's plot twist. I'm not spoiling it for those who havn't played, but it just stands as the best plot twist I've encountered in a game. For the very BEST story I'd have to go with Lunar 2: Eternal Blue for Sega CD. If the Saturn or PS1 versions changed any of the original story I don't want to play them since this one needs to remain untouched in memory.
Within the PS3 realm, I am really diggin the Uncharted. Cliche, Hollywood maybe even, but well scripted. Now for older stuff, I'm very torn between the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid. Everybody loves VII, personally the end of Disc One I believe to be one of the most epic scenes in video game history. But I also love VIII and I think it has it's merits. Then again, Chrono Trigger and Xenogears are top-notch, no denying that. Personally I'm a big fan of the last 1/2 hour of so of Metal Gear Solid 2. How many here remember playing through the campaign on Diablo for the 1st time? Maybe I'm just a little dark with my taste. But really, at the end of the day, Battletoads vs Double Dragon has to take the cake =) Right??
