Black Ops won't beat MW2 Sales (Says Patcher)

If you ask me, Black Ops would crush MW2... We gettin Zombies, Customization, and Treyarch support :D

Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter has stated his belief that Treyarch's upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops is unlikely to beat Modern Warfare 2 in terms of both sales and review scores.

Apparently, the Cold War-era shooter will fail to match up to the mammoth success of Infinity Ward's 2009 blaster due to competitive market conditions and suffering at the hands of what Pachter describes as the 'hypercritical and bitter' gaming press.

"The challenge is that Treyarch is called the 'other' Call of Duty developer for a reason; the top review scores for the franchise on gamerankings.com are held by Infinity Ward games, with Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, the original Call of Duty, and Call of Duty 2 each receiving average scores of 89 or higher," said the analyst, during a chat with IndustryGamers.

For the record, Treyarch's highest ranking Call of Duty outing is World at War, which currently holds a score of 85.7%, with Call of Duty 3 managing an 82% ranking.

"I don't know whether the gaming press will suddenly become more charitable than they have in the past, but my read on them as a group is that they are a hypercritical and bitter lot, and I think that they have the potential to find many things wrong with Black Ops, chief among them that the game is not Modern Warfare 2," added Pachter.

"With that said, if the game gets a review score in the 90s, I think that the game has a chance to sell as well as Modern Warfare 2, due to a larger console installed base."

Regardless, the analyst concluded that Black Ops is unlikely to reach the dizzying commercial heights of MW2 as a result of fierce competition this holiday season, with the likes of Halo: Reach and Medal of Honor battling it out for our hard-earned cash.

"However, competition is quite fierce this holiday, with competitive games like Halo Reach, Medal of Honor and Vanquish all in the marketplace, and anyone who buys one of those games will have $60 less to spend on other shooter games. Thus, I must conclude that Black Ops won't sell as well as Modern Warfare 2, but I do think that the Call of Duty franchise will continue to sell very well."

Its going to sell well there's no doubt about that..but I don't think it will beat MW2 in sale's..especially as its one of the most hated games on Gamespot. :P-Hoax-

It broke the preorder record. Its also coming out for the Wii so I think it can beat MW2 in sales.

Yep, and Black Ops WILL outsell MW2. But I think next year's COD (the inevitable MW3) will be HUGE in terms of sales.

What do I think? I think that I don't give **** :lol: Whether it'll be more or less, BO will still sell like hotcakes --subsequently enabling Activision to keep squeezing those CoD nipples (no offense to Treyarch).

By that logic (which I hear very often) we should judge games solely on sales. So MW2 would be the greatest game ever made.

What games do you loath? What if they sold exceptionably well like Mw2, would that mean they deserve it? Can someone at least explain to me why MW2 is so great? I spent $60 just like everyone else, I loved Cod 4 like everyone else, and I was sadden like most people when MW2 came out.

Short, poorly written campaign, and MW2 was also the only game I was interested in the online, but I wont let the terrible online judge how I feel on the campaign alone. Again my opinion, and do not tell me hating COD is a trend, maybe it is just really that poor of a game?(not directed towards you in general Guracy, just most people say it's cool to hate cod)
