[QUOTE="m3Boarder32"][QUOTE="eclipsed4utoo"][QUOTE="8Slick8"][QUOTE="joevfx"]now i wonder if microsoft is going to release a blu-ray player like they did with HD-DVD, two faced company if this trend continues, I would expect a blu-ray add-on for the 360 by the holiday season.http://www.n4g.com/industrynews/News-34490.aspx
and that gap countinues to widen

Right, cuz there is nothing more that MS wants then to help Sony
Post crap like that at avsforum.com and you'll get laughed off the forum by Microsoft Insiders like Amir
you do know M$FT has said if BD wins the war they will have no choice BUT to support it...
Obviously, but that does not mean with a BD Drive for the 360...If BD wins (in 2 -4 years) obviously the next Xbox will have use the BD format...

Actually, Peter Moore said last year that they would release a BD add-on for the 360 if BluRay won.[QUOTE="m3Boarder32"][QUOTE="risqu3"][QUOTE="m3Boarder32"][QUOTE="eclipsed4utoo"][QUOTE="8Slick8"][QUOTE="joevfx"]now i wonder if microsoft is going to release a blu-ray player like they did with HD-DVD, two faced company if this trend continues, I would expect a blu-ray add-on for the 360 by the holiday season.http://www.n4g.com/industrynews/News-34490.aspx

That won't have anything to do with it. If Microsoft sees any potential profit by making a BD add-on drive they will.
Not very surprising, what with the lack of HD-DVD releases as of late, when compared to BD releases, the fact that Universal was a no-show at the biggest convention for electronics of the year, and the fact that there are about 2 million BD players stitting in peoples' homes thanks to PS3.
On a side note, I would like to add that Universal has yet to go BD due to the following reasons:
-A lawsuit that was lost from back when Betamax first appeared
-Columbia getting the rights to Spiderman over Universal
-Universal's foolish throwing of massive support behind UMD, a format that was only supported in one object, a portable videogame system
Give it some time, and when Universal actually realises that none of their HD releases have broken the 20,000 sales mark, as of March, they'll probably go neutral.
I don't understand why anyone cares so much about either format. Sony fans toot Blu Ray is outselling this and that but the truth is it's not selling that well. I think digital downloads is the future and not discs. Here is some information about how HD DVD is doing in Europe. Apparently Blu Ray is not doing as well their. LinkDeihmos
give it up downloading 50 gigs is ridiculous, at the time being at least. Maybe when isp can push gigs and not MB that may be true but the future is blu ray then maybe digital downloads but by then the ps3 and 360 will be done with

Even though what you bring up is a good point, I would like to point out the following:
-The Hollywood film industry sees significantly more revenue than independent European studios (even though some of those have pretty sweet films)
-Even in the article, the one studio rep. states that when he last met with Sony, in mid-2006, he didn't see commitment, however, if the sales tilt in favor of Blu-Ray, he'd easily go there.
As for downloadable content, I don't see that as being the entire future, but rather a shared market with High-Def media.
there is already downloadable media, it's call movies on demand or pay per view, maybe u haven't heard of them, they are quite popular. however, people are still buying physical copies of their movies on dvd and they always will, because people want to own the movie without having to pay for downloads every time they want to watch that movie. Also, where would people store these downloads, if they could keep them, it'd probably be on a disc because no one has the kind of storage it'd take to store an entire dvd collection, not to mention an entire high definition blu-ray library. blu-ray has already won, it is here to stay, resistance is futile, thank you for your time
out
Blue Ray will win simply because it's COMPLETELY uncompressed. Buying a movie is now about having a home theater experience that's complete. Uncompressed media is extremely important in having a home theater. Hence Blue Ray not only deserves to win, but it will in the near future offer the best experience.thejoe1986
BD is just about as compressed as HD DVD is, i mean with the exception of audio on some releases.
Just say it now, the HD DVD format has been Smacked Down by Blu Ray.....:Dajthelegend
LOL...the real news though...both Blu-ray and HD-DVD combined got outsold by DVD 12:1
Worse still DVD sales last month were up 2% over this time last year. That means more people are buying more DVDs then before either HD format was released.
It's even worse then what the PS2 is doing to the PS3...but if you want to call that a win ok.
Honestly you can't believe what you read these days. HD just came out saying they are 2,000 behind Blu Ray in disc sales. Diablo2343
HD-DVD has been out longer than Blu-ray so I think those numbers are probably since inception. I would imagine the gap will continue to widen.
C'mon Universal!! I needs my Back to the Future on Blu.:D

Wasn't it the same story when DVD first showed up? I'm pretty sure VHS dominated and when the PS2 came out it helped DVD become more popular (PS2 was my first DVD player) Also, HDTV sales are predicted to rise 71% by 2009 and you know the HD players will eventually come down in price.
What you say is true, for now, and I still buy standard DVDs since the Blu-ray discs are fairly high in price right now and so are the players. I mean I wouldn't run out right now to Futureshop and pay 47 bucks for The Benchwarmers on Blu. (or on regular DVD since that movie blows) That's insane. There are a lot of high def movies on Blu-ray & HD-DVD that most would never buy until the prices come down, way down in some cases.
But the higher end titles like Superman Returns, Kingdom of Heaven, The Prestige, Casino Royal or The Matrix I'd buy on Blu because I know I want to see those in high def. (I'd still never pay 47 bucks though, so I look for deals and have bought most of my Blu-ray movies on Amazon)
Yup I already read that, HD DVD officialy has both feet in the grave now its just waiting for Blu-Ray to cover it with dirt.2beers_in_hand
lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. But VHS movies weren't priced to own.

Except people are not going to get a new player and discard their current DVD collections simply for a prettier picture.
