Blu-ray HD-DVD who cares a movie is a movie

The problem with the PS3 is it's a toy. A very expensive toy. They packed it full of bleeding edge hardware and that costs money.
Every 24 months hardware doubles in performance...forget PC's the PS1 to PS2 and the PS2 to PS3 are perfect examples of what happens in 6 years.
6 years from now new hardware will smoke the PS3 and if we stay on track that is around the same time the "format war" might be over and developers might be reaching the limits of the PS3. Problem is we didn't need it all last month. But that is when we paid a premium for it...we are not aging wine here...or are we?
Sony simply lost focus on what they were doing.

that's what you think.
Dunno how people are always making descisions for a big company that is worldwide.
Blu_ray not losing right now
HD player will get very popular soon, Sony knows what they are doing.
Â
Also why would 360 get a new one?

MS must think Sony is doing something right.
BTW it's almost $500 and it still doesn't have a hd player. (true, only because MS says hd dvd and bd are untried media or something like that) However I'm focusing on the specs and looks of the machine, remind you of somethng?Â
[QUOTE="Yuck_Foo"]yea thats what they said back during BETA era most of you 10 year olds are proabalby 2 young to remember that LOL...DVD sales increased 2% over this time last year. HD-DVD + Blu-ray combined are outsold 12:1 by DVD...No HD format is going to replace DVD in 2-3 years like the industry said. While it might seem like Beta vs. VHS the difference is...DVD is not only King it's still growing. DVD is a cheap fun toy for the masses just like the PS2.Tharound the same time the "format war" might be over.

you're forgetting the feb 2009 digital change in the US
instead of getting a stupid adapter many people are just going edtv or hdtv
Â
VHS and DVD 480i (DVD 480p)Â however with new hdtv's people will want to see their movies in HD so you can't really compare the two since tvs haven't had a change like this in a while, I don't see why people can't see this.Â
I agree, but that the reasons they are losing right now, the price of the system, lack of games and they have only released in two out of the three big markets is the main reason why they are laging behind, Blue Ray has nothing to do with it.maybe sony should have sold the blue-ray seperately like MS did with the HD-DVD cuz the ps3 would have been way cheaper that way

but you have to understand that because a growing number of people are owning HDTVs and because DVD cannot support HD, there will ALWAYS be a HD media market.....so YES there is a media war going on...a HD media war....ANYONE who says different is ignorant and stupidblu rya is doin great its out selling HD DVD 3 to 1 and it will take a bigger jump once the PS3 is in europe. Sony get a cut of every blu ray movie sold so, so far they are winningmaybe sony should have sold the blue-ray seperately like MS did with the HD-DVD cuz the ps3 would have been way cheaper that way

It's set in stone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television_in_the_United_States
On February 8th, 2006, President Bush signed into law the "Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005", a section of the "Deficit Reduction Act of 2005." This law mandated a hard shut-off date of February 17, 2009 for the end of all analog (NTSC) TV transmissions in the U.S., thus ending this uncertainty. The act also provided for the auctioning off of the frequencies associated with UHF channels 52 to 69, and set aside $990 million for a voucher program enabling low-income households to purchase converter boxes.
Existing analog TV sets would still work with cable or satellite service, or use a converter box with an ATSC tuner that would convert digital over-the-air (OTA) signals to analog; the National Telecommunications and Information Administration is presently conducting a rulemaking for a program that would give certain U.S. households up to two $40 coupons towards the purchase of converter boxes.
Â
I can find the bill online, but I'll have to come back tomorrow. Or you can find it yourself.

Ehh, if Mass Effect and Oblivion can fit on one DVD, I'm pretty sure most PS3 games can fit on one DVD. And why is MGS4 taking up so many gigs? Isn't it mostly for some new sound technology? Lawl, no thanks, that's far from needed. The PS3 won't last 10 years. Not as a game machine, at least. Maybe as a DVD player. That said, I still plan on getting one. I'm just waiting for the price to drop. For my interests, it isn't worth $600.JeffisGawd
Â
not really for example I forget which game dev but they said this:
Â
The game coming out in fall will feature for the PS3 live shows on the tvs.
Â
paraphased. Anyways it means that they just stuck whole shows in the game so as you walk by a tv it'll be playing a show, you could sit an watch it, and it'll on be on the ps3 cause of the space.
Â
Compression is not good, it's one more thing the cpu has to do, having uncompressed media, cut scenes, levels allows for more stuff the processor can do. Â Â

Yeah, I remember that. I think its some sort of survival or something like that. Dont remember the game name. Those features are extremely cool, cause they add realism to the gameplay.
Also what Kojima is doing is also cool. I always pay attention to the sounds in the game, especially if its a stealth game. Now being in the middle of a war, sounds are going to be more than great, specially when dodging Mini Metal Gears. I also liked the concept of being human in the game, I mean, having the possibility of letting soldiers live without having them attack you again after you release them. It really adds to the game, I always find that sometimes Im not in the mood to kill the enemies, and if I were given the possibility I would let them run away.Â

Filling up space for the sake of filling up space does not make a game. Granted I've never seen what they plan to do, but, I have to say if I'm playing a game and I find myself sitting down to watch a movie in game...I'm guessing the game isn't so hot. Unless it's porn. Porn is hot. As for the extra material and directors cuts...the vast majority of them are pointless anyway.

I don't use an HDDVD player either. I have a player that upscales all DVDs to mimic HD. It definitely looks better than 480i/p and I get to watch all my DVDs with better clarity, and that's what matters to me. I didn't even mind watching movies in SD, I'm pretty sure most people don't. Does it look as good as 1080p? No, but I don't have a TV that supports it and won't for a long time. Unless I win the lottery.
guys, blu-ray movies are outstanding...you all should get casino royale, it is unbelievable. true hd right there.... oh and check out this blu-ray/hd-dvd player:

soon enough, the games on the 360 will start showing its age compared to Blu-ray games. Realize, why some games on the 360 are crazy short like Gears of War or Call of Duty 2 etc. They're very short games, which is why longer games need more than 1 DVD. junk56
There are rumour about a new version of xbox 360 (black coloured) which will have a HDMI port and use HD-DVD. Only a rumour though.

There was a news article on it today. $480. 120 gb harddrive and hdmi port. No hd-dvd drive. MS is bailing out of the burning building. I believe they said they are not including it because it is "unproven" now.should've had it optional like MS?
unless you've been living under a rock or in the Amazon rain forest with a canibalistic tribe, or both
its naive to think that the next gen-format wont be needed 6-12 months from now. whether you need it now or not, by christmas this year the at leats 50% if not more of conusmers will be brand new owners of an HDTV set with prices of displays plumeting each month making them cheap and more affordable. I just saw a Westinghouse 32" 1080i HDTV for $499 in the paper from one of Canada's big chain electronics store.
by having the HD DVD drive optional, MS is just creating an illusion that you have a choice, when in reality you dont. You WILL need to upgrade because thats where the entertainment industry is headed. Not just gaming, but the movie industry as well. It may not be to HD DVD you'll upgrade to, but tech trends are saying next-gen format is taking over and taking over fast
and we would still be stuck with the current-gen format. i think its time to move one. on the other hand im in favor of a cheaper console. i guess this was one of the crucial decisions to be made. MGS4 needs to come out and be amazing so that people will stop complaining about Bluray :PTakiwarayehaw

ah actually many people bought a ps2 bc at the time it was one of the cheapest dvd players on the market Â
some did yes, but dvd wasnt still in its baby steps either, most people dont have a hdtv, or care for hd movies when they can allready upscale there old dvds anyway, again as i said, people buy game systems for the gamesMaybe you do , I buy systems , for what it can do OVERALL , Dont put words in Millions of gamers mouths , You are not the GAMERS , you are possibly 1 Gamer WITH 1 OPINION , PS2 sold because it was a cheaper DVD player , PS3 will sell better because it is a cheaper BLU-RAY player , besides the fact that DVD's will no longer be primary format starting 2008 , BLU-RAY is exactly what we need , it's exactly what developers need , like someone else said in another forum , Hideo Kojima loves the PS3 and BLU-RAY because of it's extensive architecture , and media disk space , He had complained for years about space on Cartridge , CD , and DVD , he loves BLU-RAY , when he makes games for WII , and Xbox 360 , we'll hear him complaning again , and more than likely , he is pretty much gonna stick to what he considers NEXT-GEN , and im sorry for you , your opinion , is C*** compared to hideo Kojima's Opinion , DVD sucks for games , most games on Xbox 360 are compressed multitude of times , in order to fit , PS3 there is none , Get over it , BLU-RAY wins , and when you say you wish Sony would of just had a seperate BLU-RAY player add-on , Get your head out of your A$$ , The Xbox 360's HD-DVD doesn't even play games , your wasting your $200 , when the PS3 BLU-RAY drive actually plays games , Your opinion is based upon a 360 fanboy point of view , which is corrupted by 100's of false forums you read everyday. Please Log In to post.
