[QUOTE="Cellien"][QUOTE="RahKayne"][QUOTE="jackle2071"][QUOTE="RahKayne"]

[QUOTE="Cellien"][QUOTE="d14m23"]This is a waste of Wal-Mart's time and money. The HD-DVD players are already cheaper then blu-ray players but blu-ray is winning. Plus those HD-DVD players will probably be made so cheap that they'll break constantly (maybe even worse than a X360)RahKayne

Latest online numbers show that HD-DVD sales have spiked above BluRay again... They say its due to the fact that lots of PS3 owners bought a BluRay movie to try out on their the new PS3 and the sales have dropped off a bit.

actually that's because hddvd owners gathered together and brought hddvd's at once to make a spike.

oh yeah?

i provided a link of an example

or you could do a google search to find out more

Even if that accusation is true (the link is a theory based on a forum).. sales are sales.

that's why I said an example, I'm not gonna spend the time to "prove it in court", but I just provided and example and/or possibly the reason why you heard of hddvd doing better than BD. Where did you get your info from?

BTW people don't buy PS3's for BD player, however if you buy a PS3 you get a bd player and I'm sure that does help out in urging the customer to buy a bd movie

Agreed,  even fools without HDTV's

You really, believe that crap? For crying out loud its Ign.com The 360 Fanboy site Dee Dee Dee!! I do admit that Blu-Ray is expensive and they should lower the prices down for it.Ackad

IGN is not the source.  They are just repeating what article after article has already stated.

Chinese HD-DVD players are coming,  it was even announced at CES 2007

Im not acually concerned in the slightest about this - $199 for a stand-alone HD-DVD going on sale march next year ...

March next year -- i think you'll find Blu-ray will be priced competivly then ... expect PS3 to no longer be the cheapest BD player ... Also expect Universal to be netural by then ...

choasgod

March next year?  WTF are you talking about?  The whole March thing has something to do with stock trading

Well that does kinda suck because everyone and their dog shops at Wal-Mart, and peoples' eyes will get dollar signs because it's a low price. I wish people could realize that Wal-Mart isn't cheaper than any other particular place in most cases. But anyway at the same time I wouldn't buy any sort of electronics at Wal-Mart because the few times I did, I've had problems. Actually doesn't Wal-Mart sell Blu-ray movies?

No it doesn't.    It says "Blue Light HD-DVD",  they say "Blue Light HD-DVD" because China has EVD "Enhanced Versatile Disk" which uses a red laser (like dvd)

By the way,  read the actual quotes (Translated)

Deng Hungchi also mentioned that Blue HD-DVD for high-volume, high-quality images, high resolution vision, machine Images can be more realistic, more beautiful images. Its advantage is more easily with existing DVD discs maintain compatibility, and may continue to use existing DVD production equipment CDs and facilitate the expansion of the distance between lens and do not need, such as CD-ROM cartridges, substantially reduced from the current transition to HD DVD, the cost for the DVD, makes disc manufacturers switch from DVD to HD DVD when the costs can be reduced to a minimum. Moreover, the HD DVD recording capacity is smaller, but the eye, decontamination capability, and without cartridges, dish Therefore the production process easier and less costly.

Now which format has the smaller capacity?  Which format is cheaper to manufacture?  Which production plant can simply be upgraded from DVD to HD-DVD?

i hope that link is true, because blue-ray would sell like crazy, because of the low price but if it's not and that hd dvd is selling for 300 this war might be going on longer, just hope they clear this up!!! anyway if hd dvd is price at 300 i can see blue-ray price around that mark, but i thought tdk was making blue-ray and if that is true a blue-ray would sell like crazy for 300, because some high end dvd player at around 200.

5 people purchase a PS3..Out of those 5 people, how many of them purchased it solely for the purpose of watching blu-ray movies? IMO PS3 is a gaming machine 1st and something to watch your movies on 2nd.This article has little significance when it comes to PS3 sales. I know what I got mine for, and that was to play games, not play movies.

If you look at IGN's article, one of the partners of this agreement is TDK. The only problem here is that TDK is a supporter of Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD.

 http://www.projectorcentral.com/hddvd_bluray.htm

"Current supporters of HD-DVD include Toshiba, NEC, Sanyo, and Microsoft, in addition to New Line Cinema, Paramount, Universal, Time-Warner, and the official approval of the DVD Forum."

"Current support for Blu-Ray includes PC makers Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Sony, and electronics giants Hitachi, LG, Mitsubishi Electric, **** Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, TDK, and Thomson. Add to this the support by movie studios such as Columbia TriStar, Sony Pictures and MGM (all three owned by Sony), 20th Century Fox, Lions Gate Entertainment, and Disney, as well as video game makers Electronic Arts and Vivendi Universal Games, and the bastion of support for Blu-Ray looks formidable indeed."

I have a question. Does HD-DVD players and Blu-Ray DVD players also play todays DVD? If so, then I don't see the "big" movies like Spiderman 3 (for example) helping all that much for Blu-Ray. What I mean is, if I had a HD-DVD player and Spiderman 3 only came out on Blu-Ray and DVD, then I would just buy the DVD version instead of buying a Blu-Ray player. I understand you guys will want to say you have a PS3, but I aint talking about people that have a PS3. Lets look at all the people that either don't play games, have "another" console, or aint willing to buy the PS3 at it's current price. I don't see none of those people running out to get a Blu-Ray player (or PS3), just so they can see movies that aren't released on HD-DVD.

yes, BluRay is CLEARLY a more useful format. i hate this about america, companies act like pansies and try and use chinese or indian services for cheap labor or phone service, all to gain an upper hand on their american monopolized counter part. yay.

So I guess all the news sites that printed this story and have since recanted and said it was for Blu-Ray must be wrong and you are the only one that can translate chinese and is the authority on this? Then you are definitely dumber than you led us to believe. Not to mention all the news articles clearly state TDK is the company partnering to produce the players. If you bothered to notice, TDK clearly supports Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD. Stop being a typical fanboy for once. Let's just wait for the official english announcement before passing judgement.

I sure hope you're not chinese, because if you were then you would know you cannnot translate chinese literally word for word into english. Why do you think most subtitles in chinese movies are so bad? It's because they try to translate it literally word for word.

All the news sites?  You've shown me one site saying it's for BD!  And i think it was a blog!  Try VIdeoBusiness.com, IGN, AVSFORUM,  Engadget, and others...

Even the "Bluray Player" forum at avsforum.com is pretty much agreeing  its for HD-DVD.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=837029&page=4

I date you to sign up at avsforum.com and tell the "HD-DVD Player" forum that the Walmart/China story is about Bluray and hot HD-DVD

I know you wont....

I don't see none of those people running out to get a Blu-Ray player (or PS3), just so they can see movies that aren't released on HD-DVD.l-_-l
On this subject, I know that HD-DVD players are fully compatible with all DVDs and BluRay players aren't. There has been a lot of reports of DVDs not playing in BluRay players. Not sure if the issue has been resolved or not.. But I do doubt it as shown here http://www.dvdtown.com/news/dontgettheblues-saynotoblu-ray/4407 they talk about how there has been very poor support for BluRay by means of sending updates to fix issues. One reason is, unlike HD-DVD players, not all BluRay players are required to have a internet jack/capabilites of some sort so they can't get updates.

Like I said before, they all mention TDK as one of the suppliers. Even the chinese article you keep pasting mentions TDK. Are you still that ignorant that you don't realize that TDK has always been on the Blu-Ray camp? Always have and always will. And if we go by your arguements, TDK is a TRADEMARK and cannot be changed. Soooo.....what exactly does this tell us? All it tells me is that 1) the translation is too confusing at this time and 2) we should all stop BSing each other until TDK or Walmart makes an official annoucement as to whether it is Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

All I can say is that it seems you more of less believe the article is for BluRay and not HD-DVD.. How do you explain that they specifically said HD-DVD in the article then?.. and not BluRay, at all. I don't know who it is, but judging by the original article, it does seem they are talking about HD-DVD.. and judging by all your posts, (up until your last sentence) you definitely seem to think its BluRay.

Blu-ray is kicking butt in the burner department for PC's though. Thats whats going to make the difference, so dont worry about this stuff, what really matters is who is going to be used to burn discs more often.

Like I said, I will hold off making a final judgement but 2 things make me think that it is for Blu-Ray.

1) TDK has supported Blu-Ray from the beginning.

2) The 2 chinese characters in front of HD-DVD when translated means Blu-Ray. Not blue light like someone else on this thread has mentioned.

We'll just have to wait and see now won't we?

Ok, so I had to be one of the first to post this on Gamespot.  This article is intersting as far as a dvd format goes, but it means little at the moment for PS3 owners to be worried about.  It's kind of like when everyone got a boost of confidence when the porn industry was supposed to support blu-ray.  Before anyone gets up in arms and starts the great fanboy discussion... it's still several months off before anything like this will happen.  DON'T GET YOUR PANTIES IN A WAD PEOPLE!  Your (and my own) PS3 is still safe and secure for a couple more years.

Looks like Toshiba and all the other HD DVD supporters are getting desperate.

How is that desperate? If someone posted an article that said PS3s are dropping in price to $399.. that would make PS3 supporters desperate? Lol.. you sound like a fanboy.

[QUOTE="Dragons-Soul"]5 people purchase a PS3..Out of those 5 people, how many of them purchased it solely for the purpose of watching blu-ray movies? IMO PS3 is a gaming machine 1st and something to watch your movies on 2nd.This article has little significance when it comes to PS3 sales. I know what I got mine for, and that was to play games, not play movies.Dragons-Soul

i know what you mean, but when the ps2 came out my friend bought it for as dvd player and i use it for dvd but never really bought any more for it thanks to my friend :P

Your friend is the first person I have heard of that went out and bought a games console to play dvds on. I learn something new everyday lol.

he use it for game too but back then buying a ps2 was cheaper then a dvd player so he end up getting it for a dvd player.

only the middle class and higher class have been able to afford BD and HD-DVD players, with a cheapo walmart one the lower class will be able to buy HD-DVD, have all of u forgotten that most of america is lower class and they flock to walmart. this is a huge push for HD-DVD. but i predict theres going to be a cheapo BD player that will be made to counteract the HD-DVD player and so this stupid format war will never end.

Thanks for the link. That was a good read. Thats scary to know that everybodies PS3s won't play everything on the Blu-Ray movie disk of the future. This has got to be hurting Blu-Ray sales.

I just wanted to let you know that by you own link Imation can only produce recording products under TDK's name. And I quote,"Imation will acquire TDK brand recording media business and use of TDK brand name for current and future recording media products including magnetic tape, optical media, flash media and accessories."  Which means that Imation, which only makes recording media anyways, can not make anything else under TDK's name. And I quote, "According to the agreement, TDK will retain its R&D, manufacturing and OEM business. The boards of directors of both companies have approved the transaction."

So who cares what anybody says on any forum.  As of right now TDK only supports Blu-Ray and until they state otherwise there is no reason to believe that they would make a HD-DVD player.

the fact that hd dvd is going no where and at the current time is not selling and isnt really being used at all proves that blu ray is on top.

sure there is the fact that it is cheap but it isnt enough of a leap from the standard dvd and in my  opinion was just a last second attempt to prove something to sony

85% of the Bluray forum believes it's about HD-DVD.  The freaking Bluray forum!!  If i made this poll in the HD-DVD forum at avsforum.com then it would have been over 95% thinking it's about HD-DVD

As of right now TDK only supports Blu-Ray and until they state otherwise there is no reason to believe that they would make a HD-DVD player.

i just used google and it means "indigo light"

Like I said, I will hold off making a final judgement but 2 things make me think that it is for Blu-Ray.

1) TDK has supported Blu-Ray from the beginning.

2) The 2 chinese characters in front of HD-DVD when translated means Blu-Ray. Not blue light like someone else on this thread has mentioned.

We'll just have to wait and see now won't we?

TDK's brand name was purchased by Imation on 4/19/2007, Imation is part of the HD-DVD group http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=20243

The symbol 藍光 means blue. That's it use google translator if you dont belive me. Or Bablefish

Google the above symbols, and you get this:
