if i were you i should save more money and buy a new one, its an expensive system and a reliable one but something like a ps3 is better buying it new.

I bought a reconditioned PS3 in August. Knock wood, no problems. My original Xbox was reconditioned, bought four or five years ago and it still works. I would be afraid to buy a used one. At least reconditioned or refurbished ones have been fixed. With used, you never know what you are going to get. Ideally, you buy a new one and you have nothing to worry about while under warranty.

there is no correct answer. people have a different tolaerance to risk, and those who are pretty averse when it comes to premium/expensive products, would rather not take the chance. I personally wouldn't buy a used PS3, but at the same time realizing that a used PS3 could be completely and uttery fine, and is just on sale because the person who sold it decided that the PS3 wasn't for him/her (and i think that's the primary reason why we see used PS3s for sale, that and arbitrage). it's on a level with superstition, if you think about it, as of why people avoid used products (some are just too proud to buy used, and i say some because whores are still in business :P ... well i guess it's more of a question of rent.. nvm, lol ). their fear (including mine) may over shadow the actual statistic that your PS3 will turn out to be a lemon. and such over-protection may even seem irrational.. but hey, i think putting 10,000K on red is pretty damn stupid too. Two sides to a coin, always two sides. If you have nothing holding you back, go for it, but if you have some concern, save up and buy new, because if you're worried and you'll buy used, you'll be counting the seconds until your PS3 breaks.

Buying used games (from any place other than Gamestop) is perfectly fine.

I would advise against buying used systems though, too many things can go wrong.  Also, wouldn't you like it to be YOUR system?  Wouldn't YOU like to be the one that takes it out of the packageing...  packaging...  package... ?
