wanna play the game that started it all? then pick up CoD along with its expansion. i saw it at bestbuy for a steal; 15$! IMO, CoD campaign > CoD4 campaign. the multiplayer is highly addicting too, but there's no stats, ranks, or anything like that :(
still, it's an amazing game, and i played it for hours and hours way back in the day; do yourself a favor and pick it up if you have some leftover Christmas money, it's worth it
The reason I stayed away from the CoD series is because the WWII concept just was not interesting to me. In high school, you learned about WWII for years and years, just to hear the same thing. It was interesting to hear about, but I don't want a re-enactment. It's as if it had to follow a certain script, with the Allied and Axis powers, you fight the good fight to win the war, etc. With dropping that for Modern Warfare, you can do just about anything that the developers wanted to with that, and this is why I bought CoD4, and I'm so glad they broke away from their roots. Not saying they are bad games, but just not my type.

Call of Duty: Finest Hour is NOTCall of Duty 1. It's a horrible console spin-off. Call of Duty 1, on the other hand, is a masterpiece. It's, in my opinion, Infinity Ward's best game. The single-player campaign is many times better than Call of Duty 4's.
Played it all dude, played it all. I remember back then, the first moment i activated the beacon, and all the allies parachuted into the warzone, i was in awe. It never gets old does it ? :P But back then, WW2 shooters were still fresh. I played COD, expansion, COD2 on the PC. COD3 on the PS2 and now COD4 on PS3. :)
