I need help configuring my netgear router. I had to purchase a new router the other week cause our modem/router died. Yesterday i decided to play some PS3 games online and noticed I was lagging really bad and my connection status was 97-100%. I figued it had to be my router but i dont know exactly how to configure it to work properly so i can play my online games and able to use my internet on my desktop or laptop like normal. By the way im running the internet connections wirelessly.

try this thread

what i got out of it is that you need to try dmz, go wired, get a different router, or eliminate some of the other devices by turning them off while gaming.

Nothing else is running while online with the PS3. Like no is browsing the internet or downloading anything while im online with my PS3. I had a friend in Japan that went through the same thing when we were playing COD4. It could be the router but im sure it's some stupid configuration setup that has to deal with which ports to allow access, firewalls and all that technical mess. I mean my old router/modem was fine untill i had to aquire a new one.

Been there done that and I found that before anything in the router is set it's best to make sure the modem is set to run as a bridge. Then the router settings will go much better. I have a seperate modem (IP provided) from my router. After getting the modem bridged all I had to do was assign a IP address to my PS3 in the DMZ settings of the modem and then manually set the network up on the PS3 and assign the same IP address to the PS3.
