Connecting PS3 to 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers?

I've connected the optical cable from my DVD player to the PS3. My HDMI Cable is going from the PS3 to the TV.

How do I insert the component cables from the DVD PLayer and at what tv setting? HDMI which the PS3 uses or the one I use to watch DVD's on? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to take out the HDMI cable and use the component cables only?
