Well im 16, in my sophomore year of highschool. My grades have been very bad this year, a few D's, a couple F's. But i really want a PS3. School is about to end in 10 days and my grades for the last quarter arent that great either.

The only thing i have on them is that they never bought me a 16th birthday present, they gave me an "I-owe-you" Also since school is ending, there shouldnt really be a reason why they cant just buy me one, its not like its going to effect my grades. Also i have about 340$ so i can easily pay for the majority of it.

So under these circumstances how should i try to get a PS3?

your parents probably will not let you until you get your grades up...they will have the thought "Imagine what could happen to his grades with that kind of distraction". They need to know you can focus....

Oh yeah forgot to mention i am getting a summer job. So i can pay it off entirely soon enough, so the only thing holding me back is grades and its way too late to change that.

have to improve next year then. Even if you do buy one your parents will probably just take away your controller. Next year is when you take all the major tests and prepare for applying to college...need to get your gpa up as high as possible

Well you could try bargaining with them. Tell them you are going to buy the PS3 and that in exchange for you to have it you promise them better grades, if you can't keep with the deal in the end you sell your PS3. You need to show them you are willing to make a commitment to really deserve having it.

Wait, you have your own money but your parents won't let you buy it?:? If it's your money, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. Wait until you get $100 from your summer job then you won't have to rely on your parents money, works out best in the long run.

Yeah money really isnt the issue, the issue is they dont want to reward me for doing bad during the year. But then again they kind of have to since i havent gotten a 16th birthday present and its SUMMER.

Wait I actually have an idea instead of trolling:

Say you will damage yousekf if you don't get a PS3, then they'll comprimise and get you a PS3 if you promise you won't hurt youself.

OK, here what you can do. 1) Try you're very hardest for the last 10 days of school. 2) Just ask for 50$ for you're 16th birthday present so you can afford one. 3) Tell her that you want to have fun this summer. 4) Suck up to you're parents.

I wouldn't let you get anything with crappy grades. Also, the don't have to buy you anything for you Bday. I would tell you don't even try bringing one in the house as it will be gone. Get a job and get your grades up. Being lazy never helps any cause.

As a parent, my kids wouldn't have a $500 toy. They could use mine - when I let them. Daddy gets the big toys. I'd get you a DS or PSP IF your grades were high enough, which they aren't. Just let them know that a PS3 is something that you REALLY want and you'll prove it to them over the upcoming months. Every once in a while remind them as to why you're trying so hard and hopefully they'll see the difference and reward you appropriately.

Yeah. Make a deal with them. Something like if you get all A's and B's in the first semester next year they will buy you a PS3.

Georgia Tech. Pretty much the only school i care about in my area and it is supposed to be one of the best for any sort of engineering career or computer science, which is what I have been leaning towards for the past few years (pretty much when i realized getting into art design wouldn't work out as a major for me)

Why wouldn't art design work?

I'm going into graphic design at the Art Institute next year, up in Seattle.

Lol I am creative but never taken part in any art based courses during high school so I really have no idea if i will be any good at it. It's a shame there are no schools that i could find with good courses both in design and computer science/engineering like i wanted...instead i will probably become a programmer doing a double major in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. We shall see though my friend went to college originally for Biology, transfered to the Art Institute in Texas and now does alot of work in film and photography. Always time to change your mind one last time...just have to make sure it is the last...

Yeah, I'm actually kinda iffy about art.

It just seems like an easy field to get into because anyone can draw, it just takes practice and experience to do it well. Not everyone can build a plane, though.

It's always nice to get compliments on my work though, even if I think it's horrible.

So under these circumstances how should i try to get a PS3?

lxlHIMlxl

Why don't you concentrate on school first? IMO you don't deserve a PS3 if you've got D's and F's. And if you want it that bad, find a job and pay with it with your own money. That should be a learning experience.

school should come first before anything even video games.i think you need to learn how to apply yourself academically before you even think about getting a ps3. since you failed or did bad in some classes i would take the initiative and tell your parents that i will go to summer school and bring those grades up and when you do that and your grades get up in summer school then you could try asking them if they are open to the idea to a ps3.

You shouldnt get a reward for failure. How hard is it to get a C or a B. Honestly D's and F's? What do you do at school. Is it so hard just to know enough information for 70's.

lol People still use that?

My mom always grabbed whatever was closest to her when she got mad.

Like one time she broke a plastic candy halloween trick or treat bag thing over my head.

The grades are where the problem lies.

My brother got a PS2 he lost 1 point on his GPA.

As long as you can prove it doesn't effect school they should be cool with it.

The problem here is you feel like you're entitled to a gift just because it was your birthday. You should feel lucky that you're parents haven't completely taken away all forms of entertainment and social life from you after grades like that.

You really don't care at all about those grades? I would be having a fit if I had even D's, but you got a couple F's and you're concerned about a PS3? You need a reality check, man. Don't you want to make something of yourself? I don't mean to sound harsh, but a PS3 should be the last thing on your mind. Just because it's summer and you had a birthday, your parents don't "owe" you anything. You owe it to them to whip yourself into shape, get your grades up, and then worry about other stuff.

If you're really that concerned about it, like other people said, get a job. But please, do not lower yourself to trying to make your parents feel guilty in order to get you a gift after a performance like that. That's just low, and you really need to rethink things.
