For all the love Mario Kart gets, and then we finally get a game thats actually better where i can actually play as a clone of Mario this game didn't sell much. The PSP version ( i know this is a PS3 forum but this needs mentioning) sold barely 50,000.

Now im using VgChartz for this since this is really all we have to use. They cant be that far off and im just really curious how a game like Mario Kart sells 10 million plus and this game sells like... this. I really want another Modnation Racers, i enjoyed this a lot but i feel without proper sells it wont happen. They never really advertised this which is bothersome. What gives with the hate?

I really don't know :( . I love the game, and I think it is a huuge step up from Mario Kart. Maybe there is just no appeal or market for it on the playstation platform :(

I would of bought it but the controls were too foreign to me, or they just were off somehow for me, I went with Blur and don't regret it one bit.

Although it looks fun, games are expensive, and my money is reserved for some of the sugar showcased at E3.

I know lots of people who are waiting for a price drop to get it. $60 seems a bit too much for a kart racing game imo.

I had Modnation racers and while I thought the creation tools were excellent, I just couldn't get past the very loose controls and awful loadtimes. Plus the framerate was inexplicably shoddy.

It did not feel like a PS3 game...more like a super duper PS2 game.

The game had some great customizing options...but the core gameplay was pretty average at best.

Now i know this is the nature of a kart racer, but i CANNOT STAND being in comfortable 1st place, only to be blown apart by a missile or lightning bolt. It just feels so cheap.

I think it has rather limited appeal among PS3 owners. It's probably a great game, just not one that a lot of people are interested in.

I got Modnation at launch day (heck it was even earlier here), but now im actualy getting bored with it. Gameplay is fun for some time but it gets old fast for some reason I cant quite point at. Online being region locked was a HUGE mistake. Not many people have this game and those who do are from US so I cant play with them. Playing with random people isnt that exciting. Long loading times dont help either. Its nothing horrible but it decreased the fun. For some time it was almost impossible to find a ranked XP race. It got better now but I dont feel like playing the game anymore. It became generic. Customization is great but you wont get to see much detail of all those karts and mods during a race to be honest, so thats nothing jaw-dropping Track editor is amazing, some tracks I found were really brilliant and all but... I dont know why but the game got boring. I dont have problems with controls, those are completely fine imo. Yeah, losing first place because somebody shoots you in last second is a pain but thats part of kart racing games. I think Im gonna sell it before it looses value.

I loved it at first though. I spent about 10 hours in and now I feel like it has nothing to offer except more parts to build a track with. Btw I didnt know It was region locked until I tried to invite somebody :) I assumed something like region locks was dead by now.

It came out the same time as RDR so that must have hurt sales a bit, it certainly prevented me from buying it since I picked up RDR instead. I'll be getting it in a few weeks though.

Honestly, I didn't like the way it handled at all. Kart racers are supposed to have over-the-top super handling that lets you hang every curve with little difficulty and crazy weapons that lets you steal a couple places here and there. Thats whay makes them so much fun. MNR, however, has really touchy handling that takes a while to get the hang of. My hands are huge and even the slightest movement of my thumb would have me into a wall instantly. And the weapons are more of a pain in the butt than they are entertaining, because instead of getting knocked back a few places you can just get thrown directly to the back. It makes it feel more like "cheating" than it does "all in good fun."

I bought it just to support the devs. But honestly I can see why people don't wanna buy it. Personally I didn't like it, it feels rather unbalanaced at sometimes and irritating. I didn't like the gameplay at all, but as for the graphics I loved them.

I found the game to be a little rough around the edges and sort of lacking in a sense for speed... The track editor and all of the customization are tops, but the DRIVING mechanic just didn't feel right. I thought "Sega AllStar Racing" felt and operated much better for a Kart Racing title. Just my opinion.

do you mean < less than 300,000 because the symbol you have is greater than. Some people just find games that resemble other games rip offs. The region lock does suck. I remember getting Hot Shots Golf 5 and no one bought it in the U.S. so I ended up trading it because the online was a ghost town. If you think Modnation is bad sales, check out 3D Dot Game Heroes. I am surprised Atlus went exclusive on that one. The game also came out in May. Now is the worst time to release a game. Red Dead sold well because of the name Rockstar the people that made GTA. Family games do not do as well on PS3. As stated Hot Shots sold bad, the newest Ratchet didn't sell poorly but it took forever for the game to reach 1 million. The same fate is happening with modnation. A lot of people will say stupid things like "if I wanted to play a game like modnation I would have bought a Wii" or something. In a lot of cases if it's a "mature" game no one has an interest in it.

It's a great game if you know how to play it. It may sound "elitist" to say, but I can understand how some people would find it boring if they don't drift an entire race or know how to use secondary weapons, or find the AI too hard. It's a great game, hopefully future updates will give us snow and rain effects for tracks, and more items to customize with.

That's what's really sad about the whole thing. The customization and creation aspects are top notch. Even with just the few items available on the demo I was able to create quite a few of my beloved game characters including Alec Mason, Cloud, Ico, Mega Man, Barret, Dr. Manhatten, and Ryu just to name a few. However, as a an actual cart racer MNR pretty much fails. Its just not very much fun to play. :(

It seems like a lot of people are just saying "oh it's just another kiddy cart racer game. don't care!" without actually playing the full game. Yes I played the demo and didn't really get into it. They fixed most of the gripes from the demo thankfully. The story mode is actually really funny! Definitely a lot better than I was expecting. It's worth a rent and if you don't like it after that, well at least you can say you tried it :)

Maybe the problem is, to paraphrase, it leaves you wanting another one. I don't have the game, and though I'm not a fan of kart racers in general, the way their online connections work, and the large amount of DLC right after launch made me not care for it at all.

how can people still believe what VGchartz says? I saw them change their PS3 sales numbers to match what was announced at a conference, it was 27 million, it became 30 million suddenly!!! their way of finding numbers is totally randomised and with only limited numbers from retailers, see : http://www.gamespot.com/users/TheTenth10/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25491636&tag=all-about%3Bblog3

The creation tools are great! I really don't know if I like the creating or racing more actually :P

But I think the handling has been tweaked a little bit. I know they now have a slider to adjust how far away the camera is from your guy and that was the main thing I didn't like about the demo. It was really hard to maneuver around the track when the only thing you could see was the back of his head. Now that it's easier to see everything around you I think the handling is just easy to get used to because of that. So I really don't know if they actually did or not (I can't remember exactly how it was in the demo, only the camera) but it's definitely easier to play the full game rather than the demo.

I absolutely hated the demo and it saved me the mistake of picking it up. I'm with you Eldest I thought the game would be more pick up and play, but it's really all about drifting, using the secondary weps, etc.... It fails to be like LBP, a game that is fairly easy to pick up and play, but has deep customization elements to draw in the hardcore. Instead MDR ended up being a niche kart racing game with long loading times and apparently region locked online. Very disappointing

Great kart racer, but you can't expect it to get near Mario Kart. Because it's Mario.

I had Modnation racers and while I thought the creation tools were excellent, I just couldn't get past the very loose controls and awful loadtimes. Plus the framerate was inexplicably shoddy.

Okay yeah, loading is bad. haven't had problems with the framerate.

I'm waiting for a price drop. Plus I'm still not nearly bored of Red Dead Redemption and FIFA WK 2010.

yes people should at least try the full game. there is alot of potential fun to be had. Personally, kart racers are not my game. I figured id try MNR, and this game did lttle to change my mind, so traded in it went.

I really just want it for the creation aspect, but has the handling improved at all since the demo?

The creation tools are great! I really don't know if I like the creating or racing more actually :P

But I think the handling has been tweaked a little bit. I know they now have a slider to adjust how far away the camera is from your guy and that was the main thing I didn't like about the demo. It was really hard to maneuver around the track when the only thing you could see was the back of his head. Now that it's easier to see everything around you I think the handling is just easy to get used to because of that. So I really don't know if they actually did or not (I can't remember exactly how it was in the demo, only the camera) but it's definitely easier to play the full game rather than the demo.

Ok, that sounds cool. Like I said, I'll be getting it mainly for the creation aspect so I can make cool characters and carts for those of you who do play it. If it turns out that its actually fun to play after all then that would be one hell of a bonus.
