Dark souls is a game for hermits people with no social time. I put a few hours into it but it was using up to much of my time. I had other games i wanted to play instead of sitting there using up endless hours getting nowhere just to level up

Lol, look at you all high and mighty. I love Dark Souls, and I have PLENTY of a social life. Since DS was released I think I've only put a little over 30 hours into it. And I work. And I'm taking 6 college classes. Maybe you're doing it wrong.

In that case, a game like Dark Souls certainly isn't for you. I'm actually surprised you've any time to enjoy gaming, let alone post on these forums.

It's quite disturbing to see how soft some gamers have become. Put a challenge in front of them and they throw their controller to the ground and go on the Internet for a rant. Lol. I love Dark Souls. I didn't have much trouble with Demon's Souls either. I kinda understood how the combat would work and the importance of blocking and rolling because I'd played a lot of Ninja Gaiden. The combat from the NG and DS games have a lot in common. The thing I had to get used to was the stamina bar. Didn't have one of those in Ninja Gaiden. I love games like this. Ninja Gaiden Black is my all time favourite game. I understand that some people can't take it. That doesn't make these games bad. Just accept that you don't have what it takes and move onto something easy. Or keep trying until you get better and see what these games really have to offer. Up to you.x-2tha-z
I wouldn't say everybody that doesn't enjoy the hardest of hardcore games is soft. Maybe it's a play style preference. BF3 may be a great game, but it's too slow paced for me. I'll stick with fast paced COD. Just my style. Demon souls was fun, but also very frustrating. It's hard for me to play at a slower pace, though I can. Definitely enjoy the blocking and dodging aspects of games like that. I hope they make a monster hunter for ps3. Excited for that.

I'm sorry dude, but no. The game features a steep difficulty curve and demands absolute precision and strategy. If you go in assuming you can play it like Ninja Gaiden or Fable, then yeah, you will die. But anyone who says the game relies on cheap deaths isn't playing it very well, and it dying a lot because of their own failings. It's a tough game, and you should have been prepared for that before you bought it. It sounds to me like your mindset was "well, I have played tough games before, so I am going to stomp all over this game!" No, bad, wrong. Essian

While I like Dark Souls a lot, I'm not going to say there aren't any cheap ways to die in the game, because there are. A perfect example is the Capra Demon. Enter the fog and the boss doesn't even have an intro video, and immediately you get swarmed by him and two dogs in a very tight space. Basically the first five seconds of the fight decides how the rest of the battle is going to go. The boss itself isn't even hard, just this annoying rush attack at the beginning.

Cursing is another cheap way (at least I think so), of making things more difficult. Unless you know what enemies cause it ahead of time, head to certain areas of the game unprepared and you could end up dead almost instantly, in addition to having your heatlh cut in half when you respawn at the bonfire you last visited. While I admit the game for the *most* part is fair, there are definitely cheap deaths.

Really? You put down people who play this game, that you purchased and are playing yourself. Then you claim this game waste your precious time from.. playing other games.

Do you even know what your talking about?

Personally, I had no problem at all with Capra but then again I didn't tackle it until I had decent weapon/armor/stats. The fight was pretty much over in a matter of seconds.

I somewhat agree with you on the cursing and had I not been made aware of it beforehand it would have certainly peeved me off had I been hit several times. I acquired quite a few purging stones beforehand though I didn't end up needing them as once you know which creature has the ability to curse, they're quite easily avoidable.

All in all, I've heard many complain that Dark Souls is a lot harder than Demon's but I'd have to disagree. Travelling may take longer but you're given plentiful bonfires along the way, your estus flasks refill and when in hollow form you have full health... not half.

Gotta agree with that. In Demon's Souls, since I'm stingy, I'd rather die than use healing items at times. Items were lost once you used them, and I wanted to save them for bosses. Plus you need to waste souls (a minute amount but still) on buying them. In Dark Souls, I use Estus Flasks without a care in the world. Granted I think the 'normal' enemies of Dark Souls are tougher anyway, so they're both probably hard in their own way.

just making a game insanely difficult doesnt make a game great. by the way i have played 8 bit gamesand now im 28. i do appreciate hardcore gamers but dark souls is far from great as cheap deaths do not make a great game.

It's incredibly difficult but incredibly deep and mysterious, keep on pushing through it and you won't regret it. It takes some time to see it's perfection, don't let it beat you.

Now i am at queelaag's domain and it's over for me, i can't pass that boss with the weapons and the number of flasks i can use.

x-2tha-z

My experience with Queelag.. I kept getting killed by Queelag. I decided to turn human and Kindle the bonfire to give me more flasks. On the way back to Queelag, I got invaded. I thought i might make it to Queelag before the invader found me but no luck. He came out of nowhere, sword flying wildly, pure intent on killing me quickly. I managed to kill the invader. Once I reached the fog gate in Queelag's Domain, I noticed a summon sign on the floor. It was the same player who invaded me. I summoned him, we bowed at each other and went and killed Queelag together. One minute we were enemies, showing no mercy. The next we were working together, showing each other respect. It's things like this that set Dark Souls apart from most other games. It's really something special. You experience things in these games that you don't get elsewhere.

lol yea whatever.. try beating queelag offline with no co-op help.. then i'll be impressed. i did it.. took me a few tries.. but i didn't need to run to the internet with my tail tuck between my butt either.. lol and why the hell does this game have an online componant anyway? is a freakin sp rpg!

Just because it's a difficult game doesnt make it a horrible game. I may not enjoy the series I had Demon's Souls and traded because I found it too difficult but some people like a challenge.

That isn't impressive at all. Queelag isn't difficult and I'm no elitist, I'm actually mediocre at the game. Staying close and avoiding her 'discharges' are all that's required. And no, I didn't summon nor do I resort to walkthroughs. As a matter of fact, I've remained hollow my entire playthru. One death by her hands was more than enough to alter my approach and defeat her.

What's with you kids these days? You cry because a game is too hard, too easy, too generic and or not great at all because it doesn't meet expectations.

There is a different between being cheap hard and tactically hard. I choose the later. I also don't bash a game because I haven't played it.

volume three- i never said i was anything special at the game, but atleast i'm goin through it offline with nothing but my own wits to rely on, it doesn't say much when u can just run and grab a few net buddies to take down a boss, in fact i'd go as far as to say thats cheating imo.. just sayin.

By far my biggest complaint is the replacement of grass and spices with Estus Flasks and Spell limits, it's just plain stupid. The limit it places on them makes no sense, and the fact that the HP received from using a flask is a constant number and not dependent on your HP like grasses were makes Vitality almost useless....

[QUOTE="CBottom7"]

[QUOTE="Prateleira"]

Isn't unfair or cheap that they can kill you through walls?

I mean, if this was any other game, without all the "die a thousand times" and "hardest game on consoles" marketing, it would be recieved as a buggy crap of a game.

If it was a shooter in which enemies would not stop shooting, kept running and gunning towards you, and could kill you through walls with bullets, flame throwers, or any kind of bullets with just 2 or 3 shots, not to mention the dumb AI. A game like that would be a cancer in gaming.

So why is it that people ignore all the issues with Dark Souls?

I know how to play the game, I beat Demon's Souls 3 or 4 times, I am used to the combat and flow of the game. I just can't get used to be killed through solid objects

StealthMonkey4

don't walk near walls and you should be fine ...

Or gee, maybe a sword shouldn't be able to strike through a thick stone wall in the first place?

those problems where all there with in demon's soul as well but finished 3or 4 time ???

the estus flasks can be upgraded, and has far has i'm concerned vitality was not a good stat to invest in demon's soul unless you played 90% of the time in human form since phantom form meant having half your max hp

in dark soul you can summon npc to help in fight as well so even while playing offline you could still summon which was not the case in demon's soul

I'll agree on both answers. Maneater is way harder then the bell gargoyles.

But i liked having the nexus handy for shopping though .. running around for shops just to buy arrows in darksouls had me loosing patience at some points in dark souls lol.

Well i think the whole point of the game is about adaptability, like you said i got caught offgard as well with the capra demon, then when you come back the second time you don't just stand near the door and get swarmed because you updated you tactics. same goes with cursed you probably switched to a more adapted armor set and stocked on anti curse items.

I know that, but the max you can have is 20 +800 HP flasks. In Demon's Souls, you could buy as much grass as you could afford instead of having to have a limit, I really don't understand why they'd limit it. It's not even harder, it's just more of a pain to constantly fill up and it's annoying having to upgrade the flasks and kindle all the bonfires. And vitality was pretty important especially since a Moon grass healed a percentage not a fixated amount, whether you have 2000 HP or 200, the flask does the same amount, so Vitality in Dark Souls serves really no other purpose then to avoid 1HKO.

i've posted this before and everybody i've talked to agree.. the game is trail and error.. you're first playthrough you're going to die a few hundred times, theres just no avoiding it, anyone who claims they haven't is simply lying for false bragging rights.. i had many, MANY a long aggrevating nights with demon souls and still haven't completed it, but the game itself is just awesome! as is this one.. imo the difficulty raises the replay value by a mile, which is something ALL sp games seem to be lacking nowadays, i luv this game, but like a few have mentioned on here, it isn't for everyone..
