Picked up Dead Island at midnight tonight, and so far it plays A LOT like fallout, which to me is a good thing. There's lockers/random bags/things to check which may or may not contain items or money. Upgradable weapons and player stats, an open island which gives you main and side quests which you can choose to do, which are contained in a list in the iventory menu just like fallout where you can switch between them, like fallout. The weapons damage and break, and you also have attack stamina. You also gain XP from enemies, which also have health displays. It's a lot like Fallout to me and I love it!

My copy should come Friday, When it comes to combat is this game all about Melee (like Dead Rising) or Guns (like L4D) or a good mixture of both?

I won't be picking this up this week unfortunately but I can say pretty safely that Fallout + Zombies = Fun (and probably a good amount of replayability!)

its a mixture of both :) but u have to use ur ammo wisely and effectively cuz its not like theres plenty of ammo everywhere lying around. use like a bat or crow bar on a reg zombie but when u fight a tougher one of course u switch to a gun to blast the mofo off the island lol

Which fallout exactly?

the Third Person RPG style Fallout, or the FPS Style RPG Fallout?

I'm sure it will be a mixture of both, but I've played a few hours so far and killed 140 zombies and haven't shot a single bullet, let alone even seen a gun. I would not compare this to L4D at all though.

@Corruption, the FPS ****fallout. I would say fallout 3/new vegas.

So far I'm really liking this game. Sorry to you guys that aren't fond of Fallout. The game is fun for those that like this **** The Island is pretty massive considering you can go wherever you want to pretty much. It seems like there is going to be a lot of stuff to do on the side, and there is no shortage of different and unique weapons. The similarities to Fallout hit home for me when I ran into a crate that said "Your lock pick skill must be level 2 to open," lol. If that's not Fallout, then...Oh you do get to drive vehicles freely by yourself. Although they're pretty sparse, it's fun to smash zombies with them. If it's any consolation to the guys that don't like Fallout, this game is purely FPS related. I only related it to Fallout because the RPG system and elements are really similar. There's no limb targeting system that freezes time or anything like that. And I ran into a section earlier where I really got cornered and just started hacking limbs and heads off with my meat cleaver, while kicking them back with my leg. It was a tense and fun moment.

That's good, I like that they're focusing on the RPG elements quite a bit. That always makes a game more enjoyable for me.

I'm waiting for my copy to arrive from UPS today - looks like I made a good decision to get it :D

It's pretty survival based, there are health packs but I think I've only had one because it was sitting out somewhere in the beginning of the game. So far the way I've regained health the most is by energy drinks that are sitting around in quite a few places, like on tables and such. However they only replenish a small amount of health.
