Last night I purchased Dead Space 2: Limited Edition from Best Buy, which came with a free download of Dead Space: Extraction, for $19.99. It was a great deal considering the added bonus content and primarily because, well, holy crap it's a fun game. I've been playing it for little more than an hour and I already love using that weapon used to levitate sharp rods and fire them at Necromorphs (sp?), so much that I rarely use the ammo you find later on. Not only that but the dark environments and storytelling also make it worth the ride. Granted, I haven't played the first game so I'm not entirely caught up on the story.
But aside from being one hell of a horror survival action game, I must say, it's done a good job of scaring the pants off me so far. From the dark halls you sneak through to shocking jump moments (random loud noises) to the monsters coming out from behind you out of nowhere--it plays out much like a (good) horror film, playing much of the horror elements cinematically and executing them subtly and evasively. I think this game will gleefully haunt my nightmares weeks to come, and I can honestly say it's scarier than pretty much all other horror games I've played--scarier than Resident Evil 4 or Doom 3 or Bioshock.
What would all of you say about that?
