I am a huge Resident Evil fan ever since Resident Evil 1 on the Playstation. However imo I feel RE5 while still an okay game, is probably the 2nd worst Resident Evil game ive played (next to RE3). So that being said I feel Dead Space is better because it is way more scary plus it has a better atmosphere and gameplay to it.

RE5 is still an okay game but thats all it will be, an okay game.

Melpoe

resident evil zero was the worst one in my opinion, and it was the shortest of them all with no real reply value.

Finished both Dead Space & Resident Evil 5. For me Dead Space takes the spot light. If you compare, Dead Space is a pure "Survival Horror" and RE5 "Pure Action". I played Dead Space more often than RE5 and eventually ended up getting the plat for Dead Space, it's that good...

Dead Space because the AI partner from RE5 is annoying and capcom tried to make it an extremley epic action adventure, but it failed at it. It is supposed to be scary. And the boss on the ship in RE5 looked extremly similar to the boss at the end of dead space.

Depends what you prefer. Action or "SCARY" I wouldn't say Dead Space is super scary but it does make you feel nervous/tense. The music/sound is pretty incredible and the atmosphere is creepy. I just finished Dead Space and I'd say i enjoyed it more than RE5. IMO, RE5 has more replay value(items, costumes, etc.) but Dead Space is more enjoyable since it has what the RE series has lost. I'd recommend you get both if you could but it all depends on your likes/dislikes.

Sup ??? For me personallly both games are great at what they do....Dead Space gave a new enviroment , futuristic style guns and posable button movements while aiming... For Resident Evil 5 its giving the same action we loved from Resident Evil 4 and placing it in Africa...and besides therre are tons more weapons to collect rather than in Dead Space...Dont get me wrong but Dead Space has a lot of replay value for me and i m simply loving the game but guys think about it...What did the others say Resident Evil 4 before it came out and after....??? Dudes just write your comment below

Clientel

Get Resident Evil 5. It has a higher replay value.

Resident evil 5=Great Co-op action game with lots of replay value Deadspace=Scarier game with not alot of replay value. It is a great game but I suggest Dead Space as a rental. Both are worth playing.

Dead Space is much more scarier and much more immersive than RE5. RE5 has more re-playabilty than Dead Space.

Those are the 2 biggest differences, I think.

Dead Space was successful at atmosphere but it definitely failed on variety. RE4 was successful at both. The jury is still out on RE5. But I think RE5 has a very good shot at succeeding at both style and substance.

Solori

Ha, Ha. I get to quote myself from February, before RE5 was released. (I thought there was a rule against bringing dead threads back to life.)

Anyway, looks like my powers of prediction weren't that good. RE5 failed on atmosphere for sure.

Now that I have played both games (and got the platinum for RE5) I can say for sure that Dead Space wins in style, but RE5 wins in substance.

If you want a great creepy atmosphere with stunning visuals then DS is your game.

If you want great action and co-op play, then RE5 is your game.

But really, since both games are fairly cheap now , you should just buy both and enjoy yourself.

[QUOTE="The_Lawyer13"]I love em both. The RE5 demo is sweet. I've seen a guy play and beat Dead Space and I will say, Dead Space is one of the scariest games I've seen. Both have action. Both have creepy nasties you have to shoot with some sweet guns. Both have a solid main character, except Isaac never talked and I personally think that Chris Redfield could take him on any day IMO. This is actaully a really though call for me. I'm gonna have to say RE5 because I've been down with the Resident Evil series for a looooooong time. Dead Space is a great game though and I recommend it to anyway who is a fan of survival horror games.johnryandaplin

yeah right, lets see whats more powerful a 9mm gun or plasma cutter

I'm glad to see the general consensus is that Dead Space is the better game, but to see it referred to as "true" or "pure" survival horror really saddens me... it was far from it. Still an enjoyable game though.

I just bought Dead Space. I will buy Resident Evil 5 when the price gets lower, I beat the game like 3 times though already and didn't like the multiplayer at all.

Dead Space: Its more fun,Scarier, and the Challenge is a bit more easier (to me) Resident Evil 5: More of a Challenge (to me) ,Less Scary,co-op, My choice: Dead Space Why ? Reason: Dead Space was a EA game and it was the first of its kind and it made a smash hit. Im not sure if it was Greatest hits material but it sold quite well enough on both Sony PS3 and Xbox 360. The game was fun with its space sci-fi weapons and how you could use special weapon gadgets like Kinesis (telepath but its not its just a space gadget), S...(forgot wat its called lol but you can slow down machinery and enemies), and from time to time you can use your suit to jump everywhere when there is no gravity in the area..and on top of that, the game was fun and realistic on how the enemies kill you or how you kill them as in dismembering their limbs so they won't come back to life and how you can buy more stronger better faster Space Suits and go on the PSN (playstation network) and buy special weapons to survive the game. coming with a bit of a good challenge and good gameplay even on your 2nd time playing the game after beating it...It's also very fun even more when trying to get the platnium. Take it from someone who has both titles and platniumed both games.

i liked both. i played the HELL out of Resident Evil 5 & earned the platinum trophy and w/ Dead Space, i completed it 3 times, even on impossible mode (to earn the platinum) & it wasn't hard @ all. Dead Space is a pretty easy game & so is RE 5. many people say that Dead Space is scary, it wasn't for me though, but a great game nonetheless. Resident Evil 5 for replay value & graphics & Dead Space for a top-notch single player. i recommend playing the RE 5 single player w/ an actual person, it's funner (is that a word?) that way. heck, play both!

To me I found Dead Space hilarious after I began stomping the crap out of the alien and pistol...well plasma whipping it in the face. the games good tho...it just has plenty more elements where RE5 did not hit rock bottom at.

I'm stuck at the cannon in Dead Space on chapter 4. Might it be because I play on SDTV that it became harder? :( Dead Space has awesome control while RE5 control is dated.

It can't be said often enough, but: RE5 isn't fit to lick the **** off of Dead Space's shoes. I still can't believe how much of an utter disappointment that game was. For Capcom to spend 4 years on that broken, badly designed mess of a game is an absolute joke, especially considering that the only things they changed from RE4 were the graphics and the poorly implemented co-op.

The fact that it was basically a generic action game with no horror elements whatsoever makes me want to disagree.

Dead Space, easily. The only reason why I played RE5 was because I had swapped some games with a friend for a couple of months and that was the only game I was intrigued in playing. No horror whatsoever, which is strange since the original Resident Evil was the game that started the horror video game craze. The campaign was way too short, though it does have multi-player and extra game modes after you beat it the first time around. I just didn't really enjoy it, just finished it off for a rather easy platinum. Dead Space was pretty scary and an excellent game from EA who has never done a game like this before. The story was there (although the main character never talks), it's action packed, massive boss battles and lasted longer than RE5. No there aren't as many guns in this game, but you can upgrade them to increase cap size, reload time, etc and also each gun has an alternate firing option which changes things up a little. Dead Space for me was really fun to play, while it seems as though RE5 was simply a run of the mills game and I was just going through the motions to simply complete the game. Can't wait for more Dead Space games, while unfortunately I have given up on the RE series if they don't get back to their horror roots.

I've been a big resident evil fan ever since the first one released back on the psone, heck resident evil 2 was actually the game that really made me a gamer but to be honest with you I'd have to go with Dead Space over Resident Evil 5. They're both really great games, but there's just something special about Dead Space that makes it better in my book.

Dead space, yes its easier but its also more fun at the first playtrough, sadly i could not play it twice, unlike resident evil 4 and 5 which i did play many times. In any case i hated Re4!!!

Dead Space and RE5 were both average. Dead Space was incredibly tedious, it had a ton of back tracking and very bland art design and some plot elements were just stupid, i mean Stasis? What is it? Why is it there? The controls were more refined that RE5 which is nice, especially the added ability to strafe. RE5 was a fun game, however the coop was badly incorporated and it just wasn't scary. The controls are easy to deal with, people complain that they're too much like RE4 when they're not. Chris and Sheva don't move like a tank on option C because they can strafe just not while aiming. This makes the game so much smoother. However, i can't help but feel i've done this all before, it's more replayable and Mercenaries is ALWAYS fun to play but the story is lackluster and really takes itself too seriously for an RE game. So much that it's laughable.

stasis is used to kill the hunter, without it theres no way to pass through certain likes fast moving door, or killing brutes would be one hell of a task, although story wise the stasis was used to slow down fast moving asteroids during mining operations.

And terrible art style? what the hell do you mean?, the art style borrows heavily from oriental horror genre, dark corridors with agonizing screams, and going outside the spaceship shows some pretty sweet graphics, and the always dark athmosphere really works for dead space, and dead space isn't a fast paced "shoot shoot shoot reload shoot shoot" game, if your looking for that then i suggest you play call of duty instead, to kill necromorphs you need to dismember them, and i think that works as it totally counters the "shoot them in the head" rule which is prominently featured in alot of games.
