I don't own one nor would I ever. Based on what I've seen on the gameplay, it lacks a great amount of combat structure; everytime the character that the player controls attacks, the character moves forward without a sense of combat stance and it seems like a problem. The other one would be casting, it seems rather un-fun and a pain in the ***

I have a copy and so does my brother. The game is fantastic. It is challenging but it's the kind that makes you grow as there is pretty sizable penalty for death. It's the first game I've played in a long time that actually gives me a sense of apprehension during exploration, always wary of what might be lurking down this next corridor or if the second I set foot on this bridge will I be torched by some perched dragon that's not in my line of sight. I've been putting off playing it because I have so many titles to get through and every time I touch the game I can literally feel myself get pulled in. Disregard the comments regarding control mechanics and animations as they're perceived and not actual.

It looks OK but I would not buy it. I saw a gameplay movie and the combat did not seem very varied, with similar and repetitive attacks on opponents.

OH MAN! so many of these threads up lately but I got my copy about a week after the release date in Japan.

this game is AWESOME.

a little explanation:

The game is split into 5 dungeons of roughly 2-4 stages per dungeon. Each stage will have roughly 2-3 parts which you can open shortcuts to the end of the stage once you get past those parts, but it really depends per dungeon. Each stage has a boss and sometimes a mini-boss.

Each mob in the game requires something different in order to kill it. I'm not going to give any spoilers but each boss/different mobs require different upgraded weapons, different armor, and different strategies to be efficient in this game.

So far I've got a Royal (noble) at a soul level of 52 with 11 bosses down, and my last boss fight was actually SO INTENSE. There's so many weapon options (probably 100 or more lol), and so many classes/stat options. This game definitely has a lot of replayability as when you get new game+, you keep all your equipment but the difficulty is upped even more.

PvPing is probably one of the best aspects of this game since it's so intense going 1on1 with someone else.

reasons why this game = hard/complex:

If you die midway through a dungeon, you have to start at the beginning with half hp and all the monsters respawn.

If you smash the wall with your weapon it will probably break extremely fast meaning you won't do any damage to mobs but you'll be wasting your stamina

Everything is stamina related, whether it being swinging your sword, blocking an attack, running, and rolling. depending on how big your weapon is, is how much stamina will be used...and the same goes for blocking but often times if it's an extremely strong (r2) attack, you'll recoil for a good second or two.

If you kill a boss in soul form, the monsters don't get much more difficult, but if you kill it in normal form, I think the monster's difficulty in the game gets up times 2. the tricky thing is, it's twice as hard to kill a boss in soul form since it's that much easier for him to one shot you.

Almost all bosses can one or two shot you

Deaths from falling = cause you to lose a stat point which if you know how stat points work, mine are roughly around 14,000 souls (most mobs give like 200ish souls depending on which ones you kill)

the list goes on...

It's a game for people who are exceptionally skilled at action rpgs... a true hardcore RPGer's game, mainly aimed at people who's motivation feeds off of frustration (like myself :>).

There are 2 main types of attack, light and heavy. The animations and strategies are different for both attack types as well as different for weapon types. How you choose to hold your weapon also changes effectiveness, strategy and animations and can be switched during combat. You can also chose to dual wield with seperate control of each hands weapon. There's also a parry-riposte which effectively causes major damage but is extremely risky against stronger opponents as a failed attempt could mean major damage to you. Ranged weapons are also available in the form of fire bombs, throwing knives, bows, and crossbows. Bows allow for aimed and zoomed attacks from distance.

I already completed it. Great game with some really unique ideas. It's certainly a challenge but was well worth buying.

It's extremely difficult and will require a lot of dedication and patience to get through it. I currently don't possess those two qualities right now, so I put the game on hold
