When I bought my ps3, blu-ray and HDDVD were still slugging it out. and I said as i bought it "mark my words, blu-ray will win the HD war". ok, perhaps I didn't say it like that, but you know what i mean. Blu-ray was a deciding factor for me a year ago and it still is. I'm building a nice little blu-ray collection and its glorious to watch movies on HD(especially Iron-Man!). I know blu-ray drive influenced me a lot, but what about the rest of you?

I think that it was a small influence. It applies to the future because for now, blue-ray movies aren't worth the high price. For 30 dollars I could find a really good game.

If the PS3 didn't have bluray I would have gotten a 360. I did sign up for Netflix just for the bluray.

Honestly very little. It was like this moment when i was comparing both the consoles and than came the disc format type.Where i read PS3 uses bluray which can store upto 50GB and i knew all the techs of bluray so that was another win for the Ps3.

It was mostly due to the fact that i trust sony with every electronic. They didnt let me down with the televisions,i have 10 year old tvs of sony still in awesome condition,at the same time on bravia in living room which is unbelievable. They didnt let me down with PS1.They didnt let me down with PS2.So it was mostly a trust. And plus when i saw KZ2(love shooters),MGS4,Uncharted,GT5 i was totally blown away.

Blu-Ray had a massive factor. I had an overwhelming feeling that Blu-Ray would win the hi-def war. But I also considered the history of the Playstation. i.e the massive success of Playstation 1 and Playstation 2. And the fact that I actually owned both of those consoles from when they were released.

Plus there was free online play. I did consider buying an Xbox 360 though. I could easily have afforded to buy both. But I wasn't impressed with the amount of Xbox's that were overheating and dieing and the noise it made. The fact that it could only offer FPshooters. The only thing that could have stopped me from buying a PS3 (and this is the same with many of the ones who actually went out an bought an Xbox360) is the price. People weren't prepared to pay that extra-bit more.

I think THEM two factors are the real reason why the majority went out and bought a PS3.

I've always loved playing games on my cousins playstation and my playstation 2 back in the day. So it was more so the Playstation brand which made me buy the PS3 and will probably make me buy the brand in the future, but the fact that it can play blu-rays is a feature that I love. I have started a small blu-ray collection, that will definately grow over time. I was never interested in owning movies until Blu-ray, movies at dvd quality are easy to download, but HD movies are not really that easy, but I'm done downloading movies, I like having a collection, and plan to have a pretty big ass one when prices eventually drop in the not to distant future.

well a little bit maby. but to be honest it was the bad rep 360 had with hardwearfailure more than any thing. the 360 has as good a softwear line up ect but i just knew i would be one of those constatly haveing problems with RROD. At any rate i am thrilled with haveing blue ray. the movies look so much better in true HD rather than upscaled dvds.

so this is turning out more or less how i expected, most people bought the ps3 with blu ray in mind but not the forerunner.

and HD and standard defintion are not the same. especially if you have a good hd tv :)

It was a big reason I bought a PS3. When I bought my PS3 I already had a 360. The only games that were out on PS3 that I wanted was Resistance and Motorstorm. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was released a few weeks later and I got that too. I've got quite a lot of Blu-Ray movies now. Over 30 I think.

The answer is NO. I bought my PS3 to play MGS4 the Best game ever.

To play other games too as well.

I bought it because I bought the PS1/2 and enjoyed a lot of great games on both those systems, so I picked up the PS3 because of that.

Blue-Ray didn't make me buy the PS3 I bought it because of the games it offered and will offer in the upcoming years.

It was the deciding factor, as blu ray media can hold 50g of data compared to DVD's 8g. That means that PS3 games have potential to hold 6 times more data than 360 games.

Regardless of what movies you watch.

Also they will hit my screen on a wider bitrate. 48 to 10 mbps actually.

So yes Blu Ray was a big influence. Yes.

Funny u made this thread. The main reason I have a ps3 is really because of bluray. When the ps3 was released I already had a 360 and I was addicted to xbox live. So I could really care about the ps3. Well I wanted sometype of hd player for my then 720p toshiba (now a 1080p samsung) display. Well I had just got paid and was goning to buy the hddvd adon for the 360, when a coworker told me he was selling a ps3 for 500.00 I had to jump on it since it only had been released 3 months prior. I had games on it but it was my secondary system for games and first for media. I have over 60 bluray movies and 55 movies on the harddrive. And ever since heavenly sword came out its been number one for games and media.

When I bought my PS3 it was for the games, and the knowledge that great games were coming. Blu-ray was a novelty for me. Now that I've had my PS3 for a while, I've accrued several Blu-ray movies. this just adds to the awesomeness that is PS3. I didnt' think things would look much better than DVD until I owned a couple. wow.

For me it's not really. When I was deciding whether to buy a PS3 or 360 I was mainly thinking about which console would have more games I'd want to play. In the end I decided that I wanted to be able to play MGS4 and KH3 more than Gears or Halo. Paraphrasing it, I was thinking "Blu-Ray, that's a nice bonus."

For me it was more about what games were going to be available to me and that was the deciding factor, everthing else was just a bonus including Blu-Ray.

It was mostly the thought of having GTA 4 and RE5. But Blu-ray was also a factor because I kinda have a feeling now that Blu-ray will stop the production of standard DVDs.

It wasn't a maker or breaker, but it definitely made the deal a little bit sweeter. My PS3 actually plays blu-rays better than my parents' straight up player.
