Since the first Playstation, I've always been more interested in Sony gaming systems than any other brand.
Not because I'm a fanboy, but because everytime they come with a system, I see so much potential; alot of which usually never gets tapped (which is annoying).
But Bluray? Meh; that just means I have to rebuy my entire extensive DVD library in a new format; no thanks.
I bought a PS3 primarily for Blu-ray. I got it just after Warner made their announcement. I've got 20+ movies and 8 games. I buy all of my PS3 games used for $15-$20. Any game that's multi I get for my PC (Dead Space, Far Cry 2, and soon Fallout 3) PC has higher resolutions plus DX10, and are also cheaper.

rdsnuke
I think THEM two factors are the real reason why the majority went out and bought a PS3.
AgreedWhen I got my 60GB in December 2006 I didn't really think Blu-ray will be anything of major importance. I was only glad it could play my DVD collection as my PS2 did.
Who would had though things would turn out the way they are today. I only cared for games, since I still have both PS1 ans PS2 working very well - tradition continued on my part.
I paid 699$ for quality and have no regrets since it works the way it should. To me it was an investment, so far it's been paying of remarkably, especially since Blu-ray had become standard HD player for mass-market.
I can't say today that it's not one of the reasons, it certainly is. I haven't watched DVD move since I got HDTV a year ago. It's truly great and fantastic edition to the console.
I bought my PS3 strictly as a Blu-Ray player, I had it since January of this year, and Socom is the first game I bought since I had my PS3, I buy all of my games on 360 and play all of my Blu-Ray movies on the PS3ProjectPat187
wow i never even considered that as an option
