I think that games are actually getting shorter. It seems like developers are creating so many FPS games so that they can skimp on the single player and just throw us into multiplayer maps. I was disappointed by Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank. And if it weren't for the cutscenes MGS 4 would be right there with them.
I was satisfied with Assassin's Creed just because I enjoyed searching out the flags and finding all of the hidden stuff. I'm still enjoying GTA 4 because there's enough to do outside of the missions. And Criterion has worked hard to keep Burnout Paradise fresh.
For me it's been a mixed bag.
of gen doesn't mean longer game lengh, but why not sell the a bit cheaper, knowing that the experience isn't going to last as long.korerand5
Blu-ray movies sell for $20-$30 dollars, and only last for about 2 hours. And movie tickets cost about $10 dollars, and that's for a one-time viewing. So I really don't see how paying $60 for a 12 hour experience like Uncharted is a rip-off.
Yeah, in some ways it definitely feels like games are shorter and seem kind of hard to justify a $60 price tag.
So far to me, the only games that were worth $60 IMO were MGS4, Oblivion, DMC4 and CoD4 (if you want to count the online portion)
I agree to a certain point with your complaints of game length, but at the same time alot of the shorter games I really enjoyed. Heavenly Sword and Uncharted are two of my favorites of this gen. I do think that a lot of FPS are getting cut short this gen or single player is just getting the backseat treatment. Personally I hate when reviews basically say the single player sucks, but the multiplayer is so great and get high ratings. Personally I don't play all my games multiplayer. I buy games mainly for the single player experience. To me multiplayer is just icing on the cake for a game unless of course the game is multiplayer only. At the same time I would rather have a shorter game that is fun all the way through than a game that becomes very repetitive just to tack on added play time. meluvulongtime8
I couldn't agree more. I still like some of the short games gameplay, but i am annoyed that the length of some hyped up games is so short and the gameplay is just like that of the ps2 or ps1. It angers me when games are labled next gen when they come out on every format possible. take the tomb raider games for example, so much possibilty yet scaled down the next gen graphics to fit onto the ds or the ps2. Its a shame thats all.
