Well, I am a hardcore gamer and I like playing video games but I think Home is pointless.I get on to play video games and play with friends,I do not to want to waste my time in a 3D social network.

 PS:I own a 360, and my brother owns a Ps3 and Wii.

I was originally pretty psyched for it but now not so much...

I already spend some time in second life and that has everything else home will have and more.

Second Life is for people who couldn't get the first life right.

Home just seems like a more convenient version of this.

I'm not hyped about it, but I don't completely hate it either.

It's just there.

Scianix-Black

That's a little unfair....

I like my life and go on second life to escape, much like gaming itself too.

It's basically an MMOG with no grinding...

Yeah.. its always the extreme users that end up leading to generalizations.. when in reality 99% of users of almost anything addictive have it under control...

I'm in the Home beta.. and i really don't think its that great.. actually its pretty boring...  if in the future you can watch videos off your HDD with then it'll be great..

Yeah, 'escaping' is the same thing that the hardcore users are doing, but to a much further extent.

Escaping is fine, as long as you've got it under control and you're not all the way, completely detached from reality.

People like that usually have it really bad, so I'm not going to judge, but so does someone else somewhere on the planet. If they can deal with it, you should be able to also.

Its not always that easy.. i often using gaming as a way to escape.. just like alot of people watch Tv, Movies or listen to Music.. just those things haven't had as much negative association as gaming.. well maybe music but not in the same way.

But all of those things are part of reality, right?

Well, it's what society has told us. What the super hardcore gamers do is seen as taboo because they're living in a completely different world as most everyone else does.

The same principle can be applied to the mentally unstable, who pretty much live in their own world. (I'm NOT calling the hardcores mentally unstable)

You can't apply the same thing to music or TV as you can with video games because they aren't as immersive as games have become.

You can listen to a song in 2-3 minutes, then it's over, and you get on with your life, but video games have come so far that some get too involved in it. I'm talking about those people who go out and try to mimick video games with real life activity.

It's a bit silly to me, but that's just my opinion.

Dealing with the problems may not always be easy, but it's unacceptable to just avoid them. It'll come back to you eventually and it's very much like drug addictions.

People do drugs to escape, but then there are the ones who do it for fun or experimentation.

It all just depends on who you are and where you stand.

You like wasting time on a 2d social network , why not a 3d one ?

Nogard229

there is a difference this is the internet which is one reason Home is pointless since, Internet > Home and I am talking about gaming, when I play games its to....well play games not to be in messing around a 3D social network.

Home is online , so is the internet. It is a space to go and see game related things , talk about games with other ps3 gamers , and there are some casual games on the side. You aren't playing games right now are you ? What are you doing here ? Why can't you be in Home talking to random people about how Home is pointless ? What's the difference ?

lol

Yes but i know people who have been much more immersed in a movie or series to the point where they were basically living in a different world... a dude i used to hang around with was sooo into James Bond that he was actually suspicious of foreigner because they reminded him of spies in james bond... you can get immersed to the point of addiction with any form of media.. and not just songs... people get obsessed with artists and their life because they listen to their music so much...  games aren't the only potentially dangerous escape.. they are just the most popular at the moment...

It all just depends on who you are and where you stand.

americahellyeah

Yes but i know people who have been much more immersed in a movie or series to the point where they were basically living in a different world... a dude i used to hang around with was sooo into James Bond that he was actually suspicious of foreigner because they reminded him of spies in james bond... you can get immersed to the point of addiction with any form of media.. and not just songs... people get obsessed with artists and their life because they listen to their music so much...  games aren't the only potentially dangerous escape.. they are just the most popular at the moment...

That's too bad. Well, like I said, it really depends on where you stand and what you've experienced.

Now, I'm not blaming video games or anything, so don't think that lol.

I'm really blaming the people, and like I said, video games are just another drug, like any other kind of media, as you say.

It's inexcusable to get addicted to something like that just to escape from real problems. It's nice to play for fun, but you can't take it too far and expect everything to get better.

You like wasting time on a 2d social network , why not a 3d one ?

Nike_Air

there is a difference this is the internet which is one reason Home is pointless since, Internet > Home and I am talking about gaming, when I play games its to....well play games not to be in messing around a 3D social network.

Home is online , so is the internet. It is a space to go and see game related things , talk about games with other ps3 gamers , and there are some casual games on the side. You aren't playing games right now are you ? What are you doing here ? Why can't you be in Home talking to random people about how Home is pointless ? What's the difference ?

lol

I told you Internet > Home what else is there to say?Why go on a cheaper social network when you have the best or ultimate ? and i told you i go on on my cosoles to play games not to go on social networks again. just to play wowieieieieiei

It not inexcusable.. its just a surface of a much deeper psychological problem... and needs to be treated as such.. whenever someone is addicted to a type of media it can be connected with a much more serious inner problem that will need to be delt with if the person ever intends to get over their addiction..   the same goes for lots of addictions outside media as well..

It's inexcusable, but you gotta understand that as my opinion.

There is a psychological problem, I'll agree, but most of the psychology is in getting out of the addiction rather than getting into one. It's relatively easy to become addicted to something that makes you feel good, that's why I find it so unacceptable: It's easy.

Drugs may make you feel good, but sooner or later you're gonna come down from that high and all your problems will come flooding back to you.

Video games are fun to play, but getting super involved in them can only supress the negativity, not fully extinguish it.

It's not like you have to have some kind of psychological instability to get addicted to drugs, because it can happen to anyone.

That's what distinguishes the strong from the weak in terms of willpower.

Why because i said "owned son" lol, I mess around alot but I seriously owned that human. He doesn't understand why settle for a cheaper 3D social network when you have a PC or a Mac for internet where you can find everything?Thats why Internet > HOME which makes HOME pointless IMO of course.

You owned that human .. oh the immaturity ..

I usually would agree with you .. because I also don't see the point in Home .. but man .. I can't agree with someone who comes off like a five year old ..

I tried to use a counter argument at the end, example "What if you dont have a PC, have you ever thought about that Nogard229"?its a counter argument and I said "if you dont have a PC then you wouldnt have online or HOME".
