Do memory sticks have a life span?

I mean do they only last for a certain amount of time before they start to have performance issues or become unreadable? Or if you take care of it will it last for several years?

much longer than several years. flash memory is the most dependable kind around. should last for a good amount of years if not damaged. id say 10+

A very long time. New flash memory can last for about 500,000 write cycles, and because the os/games does not frequently write to the stick, the memory stick should easily last for many years under normal usage.

a memory stick dying shouldn't be of any concern in this day of age imho

I've read that flash manufacturers have actually implemented a write algorithm that constantly writes to new cells. That way the wear is evenly spread out over the entire memory space.
