Remember when games for the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox highest price tag was just $49.99? Why the hell did they have to go up higher this gen? The developers are making gaming a really expensive hobby. Next gen will the PS4, Xbox720, and Nintedo Wii2 have $69.00 games?

Please inlighten me on this subject, thanks.

Arn't they normally more expensive at the start of a gen? But Ithink the PS3 has a reason too though since they're not using regular DVD's. The $10 offsets the price of each blue-ray disk.

Either way I don't care. I get them for $40 anyway.

It costs more to develop "next gen" games. Another reason the wii has 49 dollar games and the PSP has 39 dollar games.

I liked it better when games were $49.99 rather than $59.99, but what are you going to do, the more advance things get, the more you got to pay for them unfortunatly.

What's hilarious? Back in the days of the PSone era games were like $70-80. I remember getting Final Fantasy 8 I believe it was for $110 since it was 4 discs.

The current price for games is why I usually buy mine used, it is on rare occasions that I buy a game brand new.

Quite frankly paying for ANYTHNG these days feels like a rip off. The food is artificial, tickets to watch a movie at $10 that deserve to be free, air...yeah its hard out there being a gamer. Oh well, what can you do. Now, let me go back to sitting on my 19th century furniture with my bearskin rug while reading the New Yorker by my golden heat resistant fireplace.

well heres what you do buy wii games instead and not 360 or ps3 games , then maybe the developers and stores will work together to get prices back the way it was and you know what microsoft said all first party games were gonna be 49,99 what a lie that turned out to be as forza2 pgr 4 and halo 3 have costed 59,99 as did gears.. as for ps3s games for being a week or more behind the 360 version every time i think they shall put the price in half for those who had to wait the extra month or more for the same content. take darness for example one day i went to walmart the 360 version was only 29.99 but i saw the same game on ps3 for 59.99 wheres the justice in that they are the same games bluray has nothing extra to offer and its appearent which version is always better looking

another thing i dont get is why am i paying 59,99 for less content in games... ya i said it,, you can name any game made aside from all wii titles i cant seem to find 2-4 player games that are as good as timesplitters or goldeneye ... dont even bother telling me halo 3 call of duty 4 because i already own these games and they aint nothing specail theres 0 to unlock theres not many levels to begin with ,,

the only games i still find with loads of hours of replayability are those on the wii why u ask well because most of them have split screen play while those on 360 and ps3 lack it and whats the use of having seven sixaxis if they aint gonna make games that even utilize 4

BLU*-ray disks but i dont really care its not that big of a deal to go cry about it. thats why you can just do research to find out if the game is worth it. and why say 59.00 instead of 60.00?

No I don't like it. But like the last poster said a few posts ago, everything is expensive when it shouldn't be. But the movie thing...man I love the dollar theater we have here. But other than that, everything is money, money, money. I love money, but I hate it cuz it's been bringing this world down for a long time.

i would love to pay 59US$ for a new game since games here in europe cost about 59 or 69 euros.

euro>>US$ ... so yeah... if you feel like complaining about the price in the US, just think that you're living in the place they cost the less

Well, I look at it this way:

When Mike Tyson's Punch Out! was released, it cost $50 USD. At the same time, a gallon of gas cost about $1.10 USD.

Now, a next gen game (most of them) cost $59 USD and a gallon of gas is around $3.20.

Looking at that inflation rate comparison, no. I don't really find $59 too expensive for a video game.

it's called inflation buddy, after 5 years of games being $50 a 10 dollar price jump aint bad, especially considering they were $35 for nes games and that was 15-20 years ago. and at least we don't have to pay for the hype like we did with 64 and ps...i remember if i could find a 64 game it was at least 70-80 bucks in the early going of that system. i doubt games will even be on disks in future gen, so who knows how much a game will cost in 5 years

I love paying $60 for games.

What did you think my answer would be? I'm guessing game prices will be $50 later in the generation when there are more consoles in homes.

Yeah it's insane. Given the actual exchange rate games should cost something like AUD$69 not AUD$99-$119. Oh well as long as I can keep importing I'll be happy. :) In the past I've always imported consoles and games and I have to say USD$60 is pretty cheap. I remember paying AUD$1250 for a Japanese PlayStation and games cost me AUD$300 each on import. My Japanese N64 cost AUD$800 games were AUD$200. The internet fixed all of that. Also if you think USD$60 is a lot I guess you don't remember the Neo Geo AES?

Well, at least "Suggested Retail Price" is pretty much used everywhere now (US at least). I remember when Super Mario Bro. 3 came out it was 39.99 when most other games were 29.99 or less. I remember SNES games varied in price a LOT. I think it was Ultima VI or VII that cost over $80 at Toys'R'Us. Chrono Trigger was over $70 for the first few weeks. At least now you know what you are gonna pay for a new game. As others have said, with inflation over the years, $59.99 isn't bad for next gen games on HD disc formats.

I get games in the UK for £45. which is very expensive, Its what I paid for COD 4. but then again thats new. But games for the ps3 seem to take ages to drop in price, R6 V is still £40! But thats because sony is not making money yet, games get cheap quick on the 360. But whan the install base for the ps3 gats better, the prices should begin to drop.

I remember watching an episode of the Bonus Round when they had a guy who monitors the gaming industry on.

He started talking about the prices of games today and started giving reasons as to why you shouldn't cry so much about the prices, and how he thinks they're actually underpriced.

What it basically boiled down to was that people are wanting more and more content, better and better games yet still want to pay the same price for games as they were since the atari 2600 (a bit overstatement but wth).

If you cant really read into that; It costs more to develop games in this day and age because you the user wants more awesome.

Or if you're really rather thick; You get 6 times the space on a BD and you're only paying $10 more. Try buying a blank BDR now, go on, see how much it costs you.

I'll tell you what's sucky. In the United Kingdom they jack up the prices to £50 when the conversion rate of USD to Pounds Sterling is well over 1:2, now that is a pure rip-off and the sole reason why I buy all my games from other European Countries.

When my ps2 was my main gaming console, games were still $59.99. If they were cheaper, they were either used, a greatest hits title, or a sports game that comes out each year. $69.99 is expensive, but with the cdn dollar doing well games have dropped to $59.99 No one likes paying for anything, but the cost is fine when you consider the number of hours you put into the game. It's good to have a job too

megadeth78

One of the reasons I never had a lot of games for my Genesis. I remember Sonic and Knuckles was $70 canadian back in 1994. Modern console games were still selling for $70 here until the Canadian dollar hit par with the US dollar and everyone found out the stores were overcharging. $60 for a game is still a lot though. The discs (CD, DVD, BD) themselves are relatively cheap to mass produce. They're stamped on a press and uses relatively inexpensive materials. The reason cartridges were so expensive is due to the expensive ROM chips they used. With the amount of money games are pulling in these days (compared to Hollywood movies), I think $40 - $50 is a more fair price for a game. That puts them at least near par with HD-DVD and BD movies.

Yeah exactly, if the game is good why are you guys complaining? Damn, we dont really care if you dont like the prices, buy used or dont buy at all then. This is coming from someone who wasted money on Spider Man 3 (that crap), the collectors. Which was $80, you dont see me complaining.
