Do you plug your PS3 into a shock protector or directly into the wall?

My house has surge protectors built in to the fuse box. So I just plug mine directly in to the wall. I'm not sure if it really makes a difference though, we have a storm here and it blew the power supply on my media centre PC anyway.

I have mine plugged into a surge protector. I'm not sure what is best for the system, I've just always used one for PSX, PS2 and now PS3. Also, it's good to know that use of a surge protector does not void your warranty either :)

I have most of my electronics plugged in a surge protector. I always thought it was common sense to do so, hence why seeing a topic like this kind of surprised me. :P

Yeah, it was always common sense to plug things into the surge protector for me. But then the 360 intervened on the common sense policy when they said you should plug it into the wall. I was just wondering if other console manufacturers were idiots like MS......apparently not.

My PS3 is plugged into an extension cord with the ground broken off and then into a surge protector. That fixed the ground loop, but its still protected by the surge protector.

Yes I have a surge protector.

Everyone has fuses, not just the UK - fuses can blow... but it does not prevent a power surge. Power surges general occur in a lightning storm if the lights and power begin to flicker.

Exactly what it's called... It protects you against power surges. I.e. when your power comes back on after a power out or during electric storms.

I plug my Ps3 into a surge suppressor. The 360 might have had a device in that big grey box to work as a protector of sorts or they didnt want you to plug the machine in with an extension cord as that might start a fire, similar to what would happen if you plug a space heater into an extension cord. The cord will get hot and be a major concern for anyone living in that house. I suggest you do as i do and turn off the Ps3 from behind when you are not going to use it for five or more hours.

My LCD telly and PS3 are plugged in to a surge protector. I would not risk plugging it into the wall but IMO you are the safest with a UPC. Surge protectors don't last forever.

I have two surge protectors in my bedroom for my HDTV, PC, Printer, and PS3, the only thing not in a surge protector is my alarm clock, and even that has a backup battery in case of a power failure.

you mean the Surge Protector is the one that has Power or Wattages to use after the power fails or the plugs extension only?

Many times, black outs shut all my computers and PS3 and TVs off. It never poses any problem at all.

I dont see what's the fuss about surge protectors. If you plug in the wall, your PS3 will still turn off anyway

Surge protector, i have a 10 outlet surge protector and it has up to a $200,000 warranty if anything thats plugged into it breaks if the power were to go out. I have so many components that i pretty much had no choice but to buy one.

It's a smart thing for MS to tell you to do that with the xBox360, b/c if the power surges and ruins your 360, you'd have to buy a new one. Why wold they tell you to protect it? They've already got you to spend for it, they don't have to do anything else for you.

Well american businesses do have a lot of products that are completely useless, but this one isn't one of them. They don't make up things to get you to buy them. But they do go very cheap when making houses, so there normally arent fuses built directly into the outlets. So..b/c our power grids are questionable, and we have no protection except for a few fuses for the whole house, not on the individual outlets, it would be wise to get a surge protector. Although for computers an UPS(uninterrupted power supply) would be smart to, b/c not only can the power surge(too much power)it can "dip" (little less power) also, which can damage them. We have too many houses to build and money is e v e r y t h i n g so the more you can skimp on the better, the easier, the most profitable, no matter the consequences
