I subscribe to Gamefly. Pay 25 bucks a month and get to rent any 2 games for as long as you want. It's kept me from buying a lot of crap and allowed me to try games that I would be too afraid to plop down 60 bucks on without having played it.

I don't rent anymore, i usually am interested in the game already then base my buy on reviews. If it's something that i know for sure i'll like then i just buy it but if i'm still not srue i'll go by reviews. Rental fees are to high nowadays so i can just use that extra money towards the game if i just bought it.

I buy them because I don't think any store in Italy rent them... at least not close to me...
Anyway sometimes I can get to try them to my favourite store since the owner is a friend and he has the console on a table to try them... :)

I rent sometimes. It really depends though. Like for games like Resistance, I heard a lot about it and that it was great, so I just bought it and loved it. Same as for Motorstorm, but for that I played the demo so I already knew I would love it. Other games like Spiderman 3, I heard good and bad things about it, so I tried it out first..and I didnt like it. And Super Paper Mario( Wii ) I rented first...just because it was a Wii game, and I was at Rogers anyways. I didnt feel like spending $60 on a Wii game unless I knew what I was getting into. I use to rent a lot more when I was little though..I guess because I lived with my dad and he payed for it lol.

I can't stand gamefly. They've skipped over Motorstorm in my queue like 10 times now. Plus shipments take almost 2 weeks round trip in the mail.

I research the game on gamespot first, see what the users think of it, ask my friends if they know about it, and then i'll buy it. I only rent games when i have a bunch of friends over and we need something new to play.

If I really like the games looks and gameplay I will typically go buy it.  If I have any doubt I will rent it first and decide from there.

Buy.

I read reviews to get an idea of gameplay then I factor in my own opinion.

I rent games that are short/no replay value.  I will also rent games that score low just to be masochistic.

I do both. Quite a few games I pre-order (F1 2010, WRC, GT5 etc ) but others I will rent first. As a family we rent a lot of games especially for the younger kids since they are inevitably attracted to things they know so renting first saves a lot of money on many of the poor titles :)

If I know a game is going to be really amazing, I'll buy it.

If a game looks decent, but not worth a purchase, then I'll rent it

Well, if it looks really awesome I might pre-order it. If it looks interesting I'll probably read some reviews and, assuming it's good, maybe buy it at full price. Or wait a while. If it looks good but not great, I'll wait for it to hit the bargain bin.

I never rent games.

I rent frequently, but it depends entirely on the game. For instance I loved the original Dead Rising and sunk probably 60+ hours into it, so I just pre-ordered the sequel and paid in full. A game like Enslaved though, that's one I'd have to rent first.

Usually, I just buy a game but not until I do a little research on the game. Or I'll just borrow from a friend.

I usually preorder and don't care about reviews. I bought White Knight Chronicles and had a lot of fun. And I bought Red Dead Redemption and thought it was one of the worst game I played on PS3. There are some games for which I wait. I just bought modnation racers because I think 60$ is too much for a kart racing game.. anyway.

I usually pre-order games off Amazon, but mostly the AAA titles I pretty much know what I'm getting. Sometimes I also go for "bargain" bin games as well. So I buy the vast majority of my games either day 1, or bargain bin. Not much in between.

I don't mind renting though. My local blockbuster doesn't have a huge selection, but since nobody goes there just about every game they do have is always available - save for maybe Call of Duty and Madden 11. I rented Mag right after release (just to check it out), Heavy Rain, and Terminator Salvation. There's probably about 10 other games I really should rent and blow through them in 1 week, but between my "backlog" of games, and with Medal of Honor/Black Ops/Gran Turismo 5 all on the horizion... I just don't have time.

Unless I have MAJOR hype for the game, I normally just Gamefly it. I dont like spending $60 on a game that Ill only play for a few weeks. if I dont rent or buy and Im interested in the game then Ill check the bargain bin

I dont get alot of games each year, so when i get a game i research it and make sure that i will like it before i buy it, i have only rented 1 game in the 4 years that i have had my PS3
