i mean i keep reading all this news where all these ps3 games that will have a mandatory install of up to 4GB now so if you have a 40GB you will run out of hardrive space soon making you go out and purchase a bigger harddrive and in a year there could be a problem with the 80GB running out of room. other than that do you think sony will be releasing a bigger hardrive for sale even though i know you can buy some of ebay.

dont get me wrong the install is great most of the games wont have loading screens anymore so thats a big plus.

Yea dude you can keep the game saves and just delete the install to make room. If you're too cheap to buy a bigger hdd you can just do that.

ya but everytime you want to play a game such as mgs4 you will need to re install for 8 minutes and then another 4-5 instals that are 2-3 mins in between acts. taht would jsut be a waste of time lol. and im saying most of the mandatory installs are for the major hit titles that we will be coming back to play many times such as resistance 2, killzone 2, gran turisimo 5, and many more heavy hit titles since there developers are thinking about mandatory install.

Yea but are you honestly going to be playing all those games at the same time? Alot of people I know with lots of ps3 games only play like 1 or 2 at a time.

You could always upgrade your HDD. It's not that expensive to do so. I'm planning on upgrading to a 160GB since my 40GB HDD is very quickly running out of space.

The thing is if someone doesn't want to delete these installs they have an option of swapping the HDD out for one with a lot more space at a very resonable price (the cheapest per gig would be the 350 gig HDD). So really there isn't anything to really worry about.

it is really hilarious that these mandatory installs, which i think is because of the slow blue drive speed, almost require you to get a bigger hard drive that voids the warranty. this is one of the reasons i steered away from pc gaming is the install size, wasting my hd space and the time it takes to install

i would think with the current state of pc gaming that they would take a second long hard look at install sizes and try to find another way around t his issue that there having what ever it is.

Replacing the HDD doesn't effect the warranty at all. Sony even has instructions in the owners manual on how to do this. You really need to some research before making this kind of post.

that what people say and i don't doubt that someone on customer service says that but in the manual it says something completely different, maybe the updated there policy. also i guess to be fair in the warranty's only a year anyways so your hard drive may last you for a year and then after that if you need to you can install a new one without worrying about the warranty.

I still think its odd that they are practically forcing everyone to get a bigger hard drive, specially if you consider there 10 year plan who will still be using an 80 gig hard drive then with all the game that will be out.

at least we have a choice to upgrade to a higher size i mean this is also happening on another console which has a no hdd on the core model and now forces you to upgrade to 20GB to play most of the good games and then there running out of space on that hdd so they have to pay 150$ for a 120GB hdd cause thats all they have :( and the same is happening witht the wii its running out of space so your forced to buy there hdd. :(

I just deleted some old Game Data yesterday even though I still have 101GB left on my HDD. I don't play the games regularly anymore so why keep the data? When I do go back, which I will, I'll just reinstall the data. Not a big deal.

I have a 40gb and Some of the games I have beaten I still want my memory, but I can delete the install and make room, it isnt that big of a deal. I have 23gb left and most of that is taken by videos. It takes awhile to run out of space to install with, besides most games arent on DMC or MGS calibur when it comes to installation so I dont mind. Im not upgrading HDD until completely necessary and I dont see it bieng that way until 2009

Nobody is bieng "forced" to upgrade their harddrive dude, thats what you call an option:D think about it like this, 40gb is a well sized console HDD, I can fit tons of games and cool stuff on it, and even if it gets packed with games which will take forever, I can just upgrade it for less than 40 bux!

Imo they should give the user as choice to install or not to. The extra secs on the loadin is pretty lame for a 4g hdd absorber.

I don't see what the big deal is. For my 60GB, I have about 25 games, some with game installs, updates, and saves, several PSN games, some vids, a good amount of music, and wallpaper and I still have over 40 GB left. What are you people downloading that gets you all worried? Even if there are mandatory installs, I know I'll eventually delete games I no longer play.

I bought a 20gb at launch and then just bought a 120gb Toshiba HDD for $100 and installed it. You can either manage the space you have with deleting what you don't need etc. or upgrade. Pretty simple decision.

im just saying that why make it mandatory if people want the smoother gameplay and graphics shouldnt it be there choice and the mandatory dlc reserve space that many games in the future will take up to play them such as mgo probably will and any other online game with dlc.

also dont think home will be a small download

its a inconvinence to re install games and dlc reserves and re download all that dlc that was downloaded.

next year every game will have installs or dlc or both and they wont be small sizes.

im thinking mgs4 is a 5GB install off the bat and then 4 or 5 more installs which will be 3GBs more thats 8GBs now mGO comes out it has a dlc install for it and thats probably 2-5 GBs so about 10-13GBs and this is just in a sence 1 game just sold seperatly.

and future games will have this too so dont think 5GBs is it as they stated in the past how big will ff13 take up if it had a install , 10GBs?

speaking of upgrading your hard drive, is there a hard drive that I can just plug into my PS3 via USB and transfer files over instead of having to take out the existing hard drive and replacing it with a new one? Sorry for the noob question.

wow do you even own a ps3 right in the instruction manual it tell you how to swap hard drives and it also says that doing so will NOT void the warranty and also installing an operating system also will NOT void the warranty so next time make sure you know what your talking about before you post

Rule number one : DO NOT keep demos that you do not play in your HDD

Rule number two : DO NOT keep videos from PSN in your HDD for to long. Just keep the ones you like.

Rule number three : DO NOT keep game installs of games that you already have completed and/or haven't played it for over a month.

before when i only had my 60gb HDD i had every episode of the boondocks and like 10 episodes a piece of naruto and bleach and the whole first season of house and 1000 songs and like 7 demos and i still had 20GB of space left you really need a lot of stuff to go over 40-80GB's besides my PC is only 70GB and i have so much crap on there like 100+ episodes of naruto and bleach the entire 4 season of house i cant even count all the music and that just my profile there are 3 other active profiles and i manage to keep it under 65GB's at all times

I saw this complaint/concern made on the Official Playstation magazine and I couldn't help but chuckle. reason for it is the PS3 is designed to where you do have the option to upgrade your HDD if you want to or need to. plus also be able to plug in an external HDD to the PS3 for your extra stuff. I don't see why people don't look into these options?

Yea but are you honestly going to be playing all those games at the same time? Alot of people I know with lots of ps3 games only play like 1 or 2 at a time.

Yea I can only do like one online game, and one story mode game at a time, so really I dont think it will be that big of a deal! My PS3 broke awhile ago, and right before it did I beat Assassins creed, I got a new PS3 and havent installed it back because I havent even really thought of playing it again! Im not to worried about that! BUT... I am an angry PS3 owner, because the way delayed PSN store update yesterday!!

at least we have a choice to upgrade to a higher size i mean this is also happening on another console which has a no hdd on the core model and now forces you to upgrade to 20GB to play most of the good games and then there running out of space on that hdd so they have to pay 150$ for a 120GB hdd cause thats all they have :( and the same is happening witht the wii its running out of space so your forced to buy there hdd. :(Hellmetal789
I have 80 360 games, with added content, it took up 3.5 gigs on my 20 gig hd. Loads of room left
