Recently I've been getting bored of this whole next gen thing. now a days i find the games for the current gen (ps3, xbox 360) are gearing to much towards realism and just aren't that fun.

Far cry 2 and fallout 3 also gta 4 while fantastic games i find theres to much to do in the world which you can explore and being a perfectionist with my games i don't have the time or Patience for them, I bought a psp last week and im more than happy to sit down and play for an hour or so with a fun game like god of war (which only took me 3.5 hours to beat) i find that some of the old ps1 and 2 games are more fun than those on ps3, sure its only the start of its life but i find its only focusing on better graphics and bigger worlds and neither of them matter to me at all, so im selling my ps3 (had a 360 and of course it gets the red lights) and stick to the basic and fun games.

Any one have the same idea?

It depends, some people like this, some don't. If you mean the games are non-linear than I have to somewhat agree with you. I find that I get bored in a game that doesn't have a focus and let's you do what you want (Oblivion, yeah go on flame me) because I don't have the patience to explore everything.

I much prefer linear games like CoD4. I must be a rare specimen since people these days seem to have linear stuff.

I seem to be getting the "been there, done that feeling" a lot this gen. Apart from LBP, I can't think of anything I've played that's even remotely unique. Don't get me wrong, there have been some fantastic games this gen., but it's all starting to feel a bit too familiar to me. I guess it's partly my fault for not really expanding my gaming tastes, although I'm not sure what other types of games there are that I could try, and I still buy sequels to all my favourite franchises.

It seems as though you have phychological problem like "is this all im going to do for the rest of my life?' "just play videogames and get caught up all the time with the latest tech"

Similarly speaking, I feel the same as well sometimes and crazy to say Im wondering when the day will come when I just stop playing games in general

Same. That's why I enjoy my DS because some (not all) games take 5-6 hours to beat. Hour here, an hour there, and the game's finished. Niiiice

Out of all the games I have (which are quite a bit), I've been dissapointed with 3: Assassin's Creed, GT5-P and Soul Calibur IV. My other 15 games have been great, most of them better than I could have expected. I think games have been heading in the right direction. I enjoyed a fair number of PS2 games (GT3, GT4, GoW1 and 2 etc) but I think games have been getting better. A great example of this is Uncharted, MGS4 and Heavenly Sword, all of which were very immersive and felt like I was playing through a movie rather than a game. And any game which accomplishes that level of immersiveness and still remains fun, gets my vote.

I agree, but there are still a lot of gems. I was starting to get sick of ultra linear games. I loved Oblivion because this gen's hardware could 1. make the game look great and 2. Make it almost infinitely explorable.

It seems as if they think that Realism > Fun I'll take games like Fallout 3 for immersiveness and Portal for fun over the more realistic games any day. Some people say the bigger the better, I think that Far Cry 2 would have been much better if it was more linear, and sometimes (just for a change) I like to have my objectives and route spoon fed to me like in Gears Of War, just so I can have fun and blow limbs off for a few hours.

you clearly never played Shadow Of The Colossus, even with all of these next gen, graphically superior fancy schmancy games coming out SotC is still, in my opinion one of if not the best game ever

I think this gen is doing a great job at being better and more innovating than last gen. I'll name six games I have on PS3; Warhawk, Rockband, Uncharted, Mirror's Edge, LittleBigPlanet, Valkyria Chronicles. None of these games were remakes or sequels of games from last gen and all are a different style of gameplay that is executed very well.

Of course, I'm not buying all the FPS and sequels so maybe thats why I think this gen is really fresh.

ill say this though, there are plenty of games coming to ps3 that i want, gow 3, kingdom hearts and ff13 and versus 13.

Also of all the next gen games the only one that ive played (havent finsihed though) is dead space that honestly has my jaw dropped at every turn, fantastic graphics (and i got a crap tv) fantastic gameplay and really does make me jump even though i know whats coming.

but im fairly content to play silent hill 2, i find it confusing (not the story i understand that clearly) and i never get anywhere so at least it will last me a while (5 was a stinker though)

Yeah I remember I couldn't put down San Andreas because it was so much fun, with all the screwing around you could do. And although GTA IV was fun, it just wasn't the same. Too much realism.
