both get hot andboth are loud but the ps3 is way more reliable, even though ms is starting to fix the 360 by using cooler chips plus the 3 year warranty, its still going to be a while before the 360 is as reliable as the ps3, of course if that even happens

im not a ps3 fanboy or anything, but your blender in your kitchen is a better piece of hardware than anyting microsoft spits out, especially 360's. the ps3 is known for many things, but definately not unreliability.

the playstation3 doesn't seem to have that many heating problems from what i've heard. and i still have not heard any playstation 3's failing too much ether. there is a video somewhere on qj.net that showed a playstation3

www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZtuIQjg_l4

there is a ton of videos on there, you should give them a watch.

The PS3 get's plenty hot, warm air comes out of it, and parts of it are warm to the touch, but it doesn't come close to overheating, it's a powerful system and there has to be some heat produced, but it doesn't become a problem. With the 360, when you take a disc out after playing it for a few hours, it can be quite warm, but with the PS3, the disc is pretty much room temperature.

That second poster is wrong too, the PS3 is not loud, it's incredibly quiet, espcially compared to the 360.

I say these things as an owner of both systems, and not a PS3 fanboy at all, if anything, I'm more fond of my 360 than my PS3, so the praise is genuine.

PS3 is always, and I mean always, expelling hot air to the outside! That's why it doesn't overheat like 360.

tho i cant speak for everyone, my ps3 runs much cooler in comparison to my 360. that being said the ps3 does not run cool, it likes to spit out warm air very much.

as for the system killing itself - very few of them ever die, i personally have yet to hear about one that died from over heating itself.

Define loud. I'm an audiophile and I don't seem to find that the ps3 adds anymore then 1db ambient noise when the fan kicks on which is rare.

What? loud? PS3? I don't have a X360 so I've got no clueabout its noise and I won't speak for the X360 users. But as I'm speaking for myself, my PS3 is dead quiet. Even beat my silent Shuttle G5 chassis.

I have a 80GB PS3 and Elite 360. Both blow out just as much hot air, but neither get hot. They get a little warm, but that's it. Just keep your consoles very well ventilated.

Yeah you shouldn't run into any problems with the PS3 on terms of overheating. Also my ps3 is quiet as a mouse.

FWI, that does do some damage to the Hardware and will decreease your performance over time, I highly recommend you don't do that to often.

Id suppose if you set the conditions it would overheat :) But if you but it with some room around it as the manual suggests, you wont get it overheaten. And it certainly dosn't have that nasty ring of death. Laughed my arse of when my buddy got the Xbox 360. i Came over and that ring was nearly full.. rofl.

I have both and i can say for sure that the PS3 is way way quieter ! Its puts out some heat but doesnt overheat ! Just keep it on top of your entertainment center where it can breathe you should have no problem ! Its a great system much more reliable than 360 !

speak for myself as well, my ps3 is 10x more quieter then my pc lol, doesnt heat up as much as the 360 either(used to own a 360 till it broke down on me) but back to the subject, both arent loud, 360 is louder, ps3 is quieter, and the heat problem, ps3 dont have that, i had my ps3 on for a week or2 straight sometimes for foldin@home, and no problem.

PS3 is reliable, yes extremely so. But loud? that's where you lost me Jamie

unless you've got some dust in there which can add to the heat and make you're fans run at max, it should be whisper quite compared to most PC's or the 360

I know mine is and many have stated the same, I know mine only gets loud like I said, when dusty or after folding for extended hours, like a day or so. but while playing games or at XMB not at all.

yeah mine has never over heated and i accidentally left it on before i went on holidays for a week but is still works fine but i suggest leaving it in an open space like on a table or something instead of a small confined space with poor ventilation just incase.

im asking this because my xbox 360 broke and now im gonna get a ps3 but i dont want the same thing to happen to my ps3. Is the ps3 hardware betterlinga

Both systems get hot. PS3 however imo has better ventilation to get that hot air out of the system. Keep it ventilated just to be safe. I haven't had a problem with either system yet but that could be because i'm just lucky.
