For all those who are on the fence on Gravity Rush, I would suggest just hold off until you can find it for 20 dollars. The score for GS is very accurate... just look at IGN scores as well. All signs point that this game is mediocore, so I dont know why everyone saying Gravity Rush is amazing, when in reality, its not that great. Sure, its is entertaining, but it quickly gets boring for these reasons:

The story is broken (many things are left unanswered), characters are very one dimensional (there is no depth or real emotion to them. You never form an attachment to any of them), and there are no side quests. So because of these things, your interests quickly falls.

With that said, sure the game is fun, but dont expect a great free roaming game. The music is great and the atmosphere is good, however, you're left with this empty feeling that this game could be so much more.

Define Medicore ? what score would you have given it ? Probably a 7.5 from me or 8 that seems a good score for it.

6.5 is a fair score. Well, I just defined the reasons why this game is not great (generic story.. sure there are many stories that are generic, however, the characters are not memorable whatsoever. The only two characters I can remember in the game is Raven and Kat. The pacing of the story is very awkward and it leaves a lot of unanswered questions: such as who is Kat? Why does she not remember anything from her past? etc... Also, there are zero side missions. You never really get to know the people of Hekseville at all so you never get to form an attachment or develop any interest in the world. Because of those reasons, the game becomes pretty stale really quick. The only saving grace of this game is the free roam and the music. Other than that, its pretty unforgettable. There's never really any captivating moments in the game except for the gravity shifting in a free roam environment. Anyone who gives this an 8.5 is really pushing it.. cause like I said, this game is far from great.. like I said its good, but because of these issues, the game becomes stale quick.

I rated it "low", but for somewhat different reasons. I'm not sure if I agree that people should wait. I've seen plenty of people saying it's great and even some stating it's GOTY material and while I don't agree with these people I can at the very least agree on the fact that it's your own personal opinion that matters. When it comes to GR people seem to be split. Some enjoys it for what it is and is satisfied by the charming girl, the gravity gameplay and the overall unique world. Others, like you and me sees through it and is hindered by the (obvious) flaws. It's a matter of perspective.

U can't just say people should buy the game because u personally didn't like it. I really didn't like Borderland 2 but that doesn't mean people shouldnt buy it, because there lot people enjoyed that game a lot it just I'm not one them, Same thing here.

The way I see it:

  • If you love games for their simplest mechanics, you'll love this game for its brilliantly unique movement mechanics, and it'll rise above its weaker aspects - combat and story. Eurogamer's review shows this.
  • If you get dragged down by repetitive or shallow combat mechanics, you'll not likely enjoy the bulk of the game very much, because it does focus very much on combat. Gamespot's review shows this.

I'd suggest reading both. They both show a very different point of view, and you can decide which one you relate with more. Personally, I opted to not buy the game based on the Gamespot review. Game combat usually bores me, and the Gravity Rush demo did the same. If the price is significantly reduced, I'll probably give it a try for its beautiful worlds, but the combat drags it down for me.

I completely agree! I bought the game, played for about an hour. Every time after that I had to force myself to turn it on just because I paid for it. I lost intrest really quick then sold it while it was still kind of worth something

The majority opinion is skewed. A lot people are too enamored with Gravity Rush's gravity gimmick and the fact that it's a clever and unique Vita exclusive; they're ignoring a lot of other problems with the game. It's a good game, just... not worth full price. That's all the OP is trying to say.

Its shallow combat and late game missions that focused entirely on fighting is the reason why I stopped playing it.

I should've read more than just his title then. I admit that fault on my part and do agree mostly with him (aside from the initial mediocre claim...and maybe the $20 price point is a little low I think it's worth more than that presently.)

Mediocre: of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance : ordinary, so-so I think it sort of applies here. It's not a spectacular game, at least not as much as some critics claim.

The game started slow for me, but about a quarter in the way, I just fell in love with the game. I ended up platinuming it, and I've only done that with one other game before (Borderlands). The combat could use an upgrade in the sequel; it's serviceable, but the gravity kick is basically the tool for every job.

Mediocre game to one could be great to another. its all subjective to the gamer. Honestly I like gravity rush and think that a 6.5 and a 8.5 are both very valid scores. Some will become drawn in by the mechanics, story, and presentation while those same qualities appall others.

So I would like to rephrase what you said and say "Dont listen to what anyone says....try Gravity Rush and come to your own conclusion."

I would say, "Take into account what everyone says, and draw your own conclusions from that!" Isn't that the whole idea behind game criticism and reviews? To evaluate in order to let us consumers make better use of our money? If we ignored what everyone said and drew our own conclusions, we wouldn't need gaming sites...

I agree with this. Some games just can't be decided by review scores or opinion of others, another great example of this is NiER. Truthfully this game doesn't have the best graphics or gameplay but it has great art style and story but it might not appeal to others. To some it mediocre game but to other it might be the one of the best JRPG this gen, it all depends on your preference.

Wow, you're really late to the party, finished it a long time ago xD Anyway, I doubt many praised it as one of the best games or whatever, but despite it's flaws (especiallywhen it comes to navigating and attacking), it was able to keep me entertained until I finished it and I don't finish that many games. So yeah, I'd give it a 7.5 or an 8

I agree that the experience was somewhat lacking, but the gameplay and artstyle were rather unique.

Also, telling people to completely disregard other opinions is foolish.

I won't recommend one way or the other... But I will say I agree with the OP, mediocre and kind of a let down for me personally. Already traded it, didn't feel bad.

It was an okay game with some good potential, but like most people have said, it was so-so. I haven't really played GR in a while, and the only reason why I still consider playing it is to get those last couple of achievements from the DLC that are frustrating. But I might just give up on it. I mean, I have some other games on my VITA now, and better cartridge games are out there. If I got Disgaea 3 or LBPV then GR probably wouldn't set foot in my VITA again lol.

I don't really like the timed side-missions. I think there are like 2 tracks I need to get silver and gold on yet , but they just get so tedious... In one of them you have to get through the stage with limited health, and you're flying through tubes of fire and enemies. In the other it was just a rediculously long course you had to complete. And I've already pretty much completed everything else and maxed out my stats, so it doesn't seem like it would mean much if I did manage to complete them.

But I thought the game's concept was good, and I wouldn't mind a decent sequel.
