Hey,

I am going to be buying a PS3 within a week or so, and I was just wondering if using it in a dusty room is bad for it. I know dust for electronics is never GOOD, but for the PS3, is it really bad?

-Thanks

What's with the 2 quick posts? You can't expect an answer in only a 1/2-hour... Anyways, I would think that dust isn't good - it can get into the system and, worst-case scenario, lead to a YLOD. That being said, the system itself has a pretty sophisticated fan system, so I don't think it isn't too bad...

Depends on what level of dusty were talking here... obviously if its really bad to the point of making you create this thread, I would advise cleaning the room and such... vacuum, wipe down the area where the PS3 will be with anti static wipes, and even possibly cover the PS3 when not in operation. If its just ordinary dusty, dont worry about it. Just wipe off the vents and such occasionally.

It is not a terrible amount, but more than a little. I have a bunch of pets and it can get pretty dusty.

-Thanks

Don't let your pets get near your system. A guy was asking here if the warranty included his dog pissing on the PS3. Keep it somewhere high and clean the air vents occasionally with a common handheld vacuum. Also give the PS3 some room to breath.

We have recently being having alot of work done. Plastering.. re-wiring etc in our house.

So, there has been LOTS of dust floating around the place. I kept my ps3 wrapped in a towel whilst all the work was being done, but there is still alot of dust on surfaces etc and floating around. The inside of my PC is white with plaster dust....so I suppose the PS3 is the same...

My PS3 has coped fine though..and ive been using it ALOT lately. I hope I havent tempted fate by saying this, but I think you'll be fine.

I would advise you try and keep your PS3 as dust free as possible. Regularly wipe away any gathering dust and periodically lightly vacuum dust out of the vents to ensure a long life for the system. I just had my PS3 die from yellow light of death from dust accumulating..

Thanks again for the replies. Does anyone know a good method to use in dusting the PS3 without clouding the finish with surface scratches?

-Thanks
